"There is only a tv unit and a side table to dust and I give them a quick dust twice a day."

Twice a day??? Why?
I dust everywhere every two or three weeks and it's fine.
Why not replace your awkward rugs with ones that can be hoovered?

NeverGotMyPuppy · 28/09/2019 09:21

OP you seem to be very defensive. Lots of PPs think is excessive - me included. My DH would have divorced me by now if I expected him to do this lot. And 7 hours- come on, you cant think that's an average amount of cleaning!

81Byerley · 28/09/2019 09:22

Why are you doing stuff twice a day? (Emptying bins?) Your first list looks like spring cleaning to me. When I was a cleaner I did high dusting every other week. I certainly don't do that here at home!

@MovinOnUp I was replying to another poster who said that some people don't know how to keep a house, when I said that some people don't get the balance right. I didn't mention you.

My posts were trying to be helpful but I'm sensing that you may be getting a little snippy, so I'll leave it there.

MovinOnUp · 28/09/2019 09:24

@Gwenhwyfar Umm because I like my cowhide rug perhaps? So I'll keep it, Thank you.

And twice a day because the house is very dusty, Possibly as very near to a steam railway line, So I dust the TV unit in the morning and then again after dinner before I put the candles on, along with the unwanted tv (that I watch every night)

4 hrs or until the jobs are done.
But tbh I think it`s a housekeeper you need.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 28/09/2019 09:33

possibly as very near to a steam railway line

Ha ha now I get it, you’re posting from the 1930s when standards of keeping a clean house were much much higher and ladies went out in their pinnies every day to scrub the front steps with carbolic soap.

Butchyrestingface · 28/09/2019 09:35

Well, you did ask this question upthread, @MovinOnUp

I honestly don't think its loads. Don't most people do a big clean at the weekend and just do the basics to keep on top of it through the week?

Most people seem to be responding by saying that they find your level of cleaning excessive and not representative of their idea of "big clean" or "basics". I find what is being described terrifying and think your boyfriend is a brave man. Only time will tell though - maybe you'll convert him to your hobby. Smile

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 28/09/2019 09:35

Though if a steam railway is making your house dirty that’s soot, not dust (dust is fluff and human skin). And if soot accumulates enough to need dusting twice a day I’d be worrying about my lungs to be honest.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 28/09/2019 09:41

Steam railways?
Candles with kids?
£30 a week cleaners who just drink coffee?

What is all this really about OP?

MitziK · 28/09/2019 09:59

It's a Saturday morning's worth of jobs, with a coffee & MN break in the middle.

It's more than we/I do, but with my newly employed OH (and a couple of helpful posts on here), it's nice to have routines where everything is clean all the time, so I've been doing a couple of things on Friday evening that I would have ordinarily left until Saturday - there is only the two of us and the DTwatCats, though.

Sounds like your place is lovely and run with precision. I like that idea.

raspberryk · 28/09/2019 10:01

I think I only clean the skirting boards once a year, when I move furniture around or paint. What the hell is getting on them?
No I don't know anyone who spends their whole weekend deep cleaning no, maybe once in a while.
I can't imagine your friend was doing all this in less than a day it sounds like an end of tenancy clean each week. So many of those items look like once a month or quarterly jobs to me.

MovinOnUp · 28/09/2019 10:01

Steam railways? Yup?
Candles with kids? Why not? Can understand not having them around toddlers and little ones but at 8 and 10 it's fine surely.
Cleaners that just drink coffee? Where did that one come from?

ffswhatnext · 28/09/2019 10:17

I don't think that list is too bad.
Daily I open the windows, although mine is never closed. I have a rug that needs a beat and do this weekly otherwise it takes ages to do.
The kitchen stuff is again basic stuff that I do daily/when used. Same with hoovering and mopping is done daily, (long-haired cat owner).

Windows if they aren't done weekly they look a state and unfortunately not that many window cleaners will do tower blocks.

Dusting (wiping everywhere with a damp cloth), mopping, hoovering daily. I also hoover the skirting boards with the little brush attachment daily and the crevice between ceiling and wall weekly. The hoovers out anyway lol. Also, move the sofa and do under there to retrieve all the cat toys.

Bathroom/toilet weekly same as op, daily a quick wipe down and toilet cleaned.

Door handles yup weekly. Bannister daily.

Laundry when there's a full load and load the dishwasher as we go (invest in one op)

Cleaning up after breakfast makes sense. When we were running late and before dishwasher days would leave them in a bowl of water.

The daily stuff can be done within 20 minutes, but also depends on space. Helps that I have no nicknacks or ornaments. Morning even quicker. And at night it's nice to relax knowing everything is done. Plus the dc's have known from young when you've finished with it put it where it needs to be.

And the weekly stuff, depending on if distracted up to 2 hours. Otherwise around an hour.

I find doing these things regularly saves time. Some of these things I did use to do with the big clean every couple of months. And it took a lot longer.

And of course, these things should be discussed before moving in. If she didn't she could find herself with one of the many useless men. Know expectations before moving in, rather than afterwards and tensions arise. Just don't let him take ages to settle in!!

MarianaMoatedGrange · 28/09/2019 10:19

I've come back and reread The List now I've eaten. I reread it while taking deep, even breaths and I still get the horrors and want to run wildly through a wood. Weird how The List is affecting me.

BessMarvin · 28/09/2019 10:19

Why is it organised mum? Why can't dads be organised?

The woman who invented it is a mum. It's her method, so the organised mum method. It's not a method for organised mums, it's for anyone.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 28/09/2019 10:28

Hee hee. Yes, same as the Kondo method is not just for Marie Kondo.

Do you also Kondo OP?

MovinOnUp · 28/09/2019 10:33

Just googled Kondo Grin
I've decided not to look any further into it, Am off for a girly day out with DD instead.
(Seeing as the house is clean Wink)

That sounds like a once a year spring clean to me. I just clean what looks dirty, am I a slob? And if you get a poodle cross they are non shedding but you would need to add grooming every 2/3 days to your list of jobs

Bigearringsbigsmile · 28/09/2019 10:40

This thread makes me feel someone off Kim and Aggie.
Your daily list is like my weekly list...on a very good week!

MrsDimmond · 28/09/2019 10:49

This thread makes me feel someone off Kim and Aggie.

The OP had the effect on me but I've been reassured by the thread that This is an unusual regime Grin

Each to their own, and if OP is happy that's great. (Just hoping BF is on the same page)

TheAlternativeTentacle · 28/09/2019 11:43

Cleaners that just drink coffee? Where did that one come from?

From your words what you typed in the computer.

MovinOnUp · 28/09/2019 12:34

@TheAlternativeTentacle never once said she 'just' drank coffeeConfused

OP posts:
Celebelly · 28/09/2019 12:39

I regret not sticking to the slatterns thread now. I'm not sure I've ever done some of the things on those lists Grin

drspouse · 28/09/2019 12:48

I need the slatterns thread too.
