Not a vegan or even a veggie but loving all the vegan and plant based foods available. Had the beyond burger last night and loved it. What’s your favourite finds?

I've liked all of the ones I've tried. Not tried the chorizo ones yet though.

motorcyclenumptiness · 28/09/2019 15:03

I was a teeny bit disappointed with Gu - the biscuit base (which you think would be the easy bit) is very sugary. The topping is lovely though. I wish somewhere would do a cheeseless pizza ie just veggies, no pretend cheese. Homemade is best but it would be good to be able to buy a spontaneous pizzaSmile

@motorcyclenumptiness Iceland do cheeselsss veggie pizzas! Cheap and very tasty!

Who has tried the new applewood cheese? I still haven't fallen in love with a vegan cheese so I'm nervous about trying it!

Chillisauceboss · 28/09/2019 16:54

@BahHumbygge doesn't Novak Djokovic look awful! Quick get him a slice of ham

motorcyclenumptiness · 28/09/2019 17:05

Fantastic - thanks Chilli Smile

BahHumbygge · 28/09/2019 17:40

Novak Djokovic isn't vegan!

"Djokovic follows a gluten- and dairy-free diet. He also cuts out as much sugar as possible, tending to stick to vegetables, beans, white meat, fish, fruit, nuts, seeds, chickpeas, lentils and healthy oils."

From his sample meal plan (Jan 2019):
Sardines
Anchovies
Salmon
Tuna niçoise
Whole lemon-roasted chicken

Both yummy. We are trying to be meat free at least half the week and one day a week only consume what we grow(only in summer/autumn but still - not bad in a small London Garden)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/09/2019 18:09

I didn't like that kebab stuff but everybody else here did.

Chillisauceboss · 28/09/2019 18:20

@BahHumbygge he is plant based (he doesn't like the vegan label) and spoke openly in the press this year about being plant based with no animal products and that helped him recover. Your article is wrong

Named one of the greatest runners of all time, Scott Jurek has become a living legend. He has claimed victories in nearly all of ultrarunning’s elite trail and road events including the historic 153-mile Spartathlon, the Hardrock 100, the Badwater 135-Mile Ultramarathon, and—his signature race—the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run, which he won a record seven straight times. Scott has also taken the running world by storm with his 2015 Appalachian Trail speed record, averaging nearly 50 miles a day over 46 days—and the United States all-surface record in the 24-Hour Run with 165.7 miles: 6.5 marathons in one day.
It's a wonder Scott Jurek managed to find his way along 2189 miles of Appalachian trail wot with his plant-based brain fog and allHmm

Things I'm loving
Vivera kebab
Pesto flavoured tofu (from Waitrose I forget the brand)
Quorn fish fillets - breadcrumbs are the best
Hotel chocolat gianduja bombs
Vegan pesto
Naturli 'butter'
Hippeas
Aunt Bessie's frozen dumplings are vegan - lovely on a red lentil packed veggie stew

Rosequartz7 · 28/09/2019 20:28

Applewood Smoked cheese is gorgeous, I bought some last night and it's all gone! Sainsburys shroomdogs, the chorizo ones are delicious.
Ombar coconut and vanilla chocolate is heavenly. Worth the price tag imo.

Chillisauceboss · 28/09/2019 20:29

@Rosequartz7 I'm so pleased to hear the applewood was good!

kimikoglenn · 28/09/2019 20:52

Naturli butter is the best butter by far.
Their mince is also incredible.

loulou20106 · 28/09/2019 21:09

Asda does these lovely puff pastry tart things with creamy filling and asparagus there £1.80 for X2

SouthWestmom · 28/09/2019 21:49

@Ricekrispie22
Im so excited to try the vegan applewood cheese- special trip to Asda tomorrow!

Anoni · 28/09/2019 21:56

Tesco have a new range of vegan and veggie products out now and they all look quite scrummy tbh

PurpleDaisies · 28/09/2019 22:09

A fair amount of stuff I’d count as a treat is vegan without being obviously classed “vegan food”. Most crisps are (although some have milk). Skittles are vegan. So are Oreos.

Ricekrispie22 · 29/09/2019 09:54

@Noeuf while you’re there, get some of these cupcakes. Read the reviews, they’re amazing! groceries.asda.com/product/fairy-cakes-cupcakes/asda-vegan-chocolate-cupcakes/1000081480187

SouthWestmom · 29/09/2019 09:55

Amazing. Thank you. Will head there later.

SouthWestmom · 29/09/2019 19:58

Sadly there was a little space for the Applewood and not a clue where to look for the cakes / not with the usual cakes/ also saw someone with Gu vegan cheesecakes and couldn't find them.

Humph.

ExecutiveFiat · 30/09/2019 08:20

I had the applewood cheese on toast yesterday with red onions and mushrooms. It melts beautifully, and tastes really good. I was very impressed.
