What cheap(ish) washing machine would you recommend

Hello

So my washing machine is slowly dying (programmes not always working, heating element gone), we plan to move in the next year or so therefore don't want to spend £££ and live in a small flat (but produce a lot of washing!!)
I see the Samsung ones lool good but don't want to pay more than 250/300 I think as I won't really get use out of it.

Does anyone have a cheap ish one that they love? My old one is a Bosch but they also look more that £300 online, it is/was very good.

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for washing machine recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best budget washing machines page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

I have a beko which I bought to replace an older smaller beko. It is used daily and washes clothes for the 5 of us. Digital display. I would not hesitate to buy another one.

JanewaysBun · 27/09/2019 16:50

Thanks, would a 6kg one be enough for sheets and towels etc? We've got one that's 8kg (I think) atm and I can only wash one dressing gown at a time before it unbalances so would 2kg make a difference?

Thanks bobsters, I've seen some bekos in Currys for a good price so interesting to know they are good quality

Pretty sure we had a 6kg a few years ago (I’m errr, pretty tough on washing machines!) and it did sheets and towels ok. Struggled with a duvet, I must admit.

We have a Beko as well bought in an emergency when old one packs in. On daily for 5 of us. Is a few years old now 4 or 5 and still going strong. I’ve had Beko stuff before and always been impressed so didn’t worry buying this and so far it hasn’t let us down. (I’ve just given it the kiss of death now haven’t I?)

NumberblockNo1 · 27/09/2019 16:54

Saucery we need a new one and thought we'd rather go for brand than tons of programmes. Thats rhe one we were looking at!

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 27/09/2019 16:54

Ok and it’s an 8kg drum as well.

Saucery · 27/09/2019 16:57

I love Boschs, Numberblock. Very versatile programmes I.e. if you don’t want a 2.5hr Cottons 60 wash you can adjust the Easycare setting to a 60 degree for a shorter cycle.

SilverySurfer · 27/09/2019 17:08

I bought a Whirlpool sixteen years ago and it's still going strong. However I live alone so no idea how good it would be with big family loads multiple times a week.

RatherBeRiding · 27/09/2019 17:14

I've recently bought a Curry's own brand (Logik) 8kg one. Previously I had had a Curry's Essential for several years but killed it - probably washed one too many horse sheets in it.

Love the Logik - the bigger drum makes a difference and it has a really quick 15min cycle if all you want to do is freshen something up quickly.

And it's extremely cheap. They do however charge extra for installation and taking your old one away, both of which extras I did without to keep cost down. DP installed it and our lovely local rag 'n bone guys disposed of the old one for nix.

JanewaysBun · 27/09/2019 17:57

Great thanks all! Lots to look at :)

Quick q, are long cycles mostly what's available now? A lot of the bekos etc seem to have long washes, could do with a 60 min standard one really

My beko has quick wash with variable temperature, it's all I use.

Pointof0return · 27/09/2019 20:01

I bought a beko while skint about 7 years ago because it was the cheapest washing machine around at the time. About £250. It's still going strong and I have mostly used the quick wash at 30 degrees which is 28mins. Family of 3 plus muddy dog.

Hi. I had an appliance engineer round recently, and asked him which brand he'd recommend. His reply was Beko, as of all the brands, he repairs them the least often.
Don't forget about Gumtree too. You get some great bargains on there.

OverByYer · 27/09/2019 22:52

I bought a HiSense 2 yrs ago. Best machine I’ve had

Grafittiqueen · 27/09/2019 22:55

I have a zanussi lindo which has I think a 10kg drum. I'm pretty happy with it.

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 27/09/2019 23:00

Beko. Its fab. My cheap tide you over dishwasher lasted 8 years, and frankly i wish now id repaired it instead of replacing. My beko washing machine is the first in years that hasnt needed repair ever years. And im delighted with my recent fridge freezer.... Everything is going beko when it wears out!

JanewaysBun · 27/09/2019 23:29

Sounds like beko is a good one to go for!
Bobsters is the quick wash the 30 min one? Wasn't sure if that would be long enough to clean the clothes?

Came on to say beko too. After having a lot of expensive appliances give up after a few years I decided what's the point. Have beko washing machine and a dryer and they are both perfectly adequate.

userxx · 28/09/2019 00:04

Another Beko fan here. I always use the quick 30 degree wash and the clothes are always clean. There are loads of different cycles with the option of making the wash quicker.

Mine has a timer delay which is brilliant for in summer when I want to hang washing out before or after work.

Definitely recommend 👍

goingtotown · 28/09/2019 08:20

I recently bought a Hoover 1400 spin. The 1400 spin only works on the long takes forever washes. Normal washes spin at 1000, do your research.

Sugarhouse · 28/09/2019 12:04

I bought an 8 kg candy from AO a few weeks ago for £250 I bloody love it but I have put up with my hoover one being dodgy for nearly the whole 10 years we have had it so any new machine would seem great to me
