35 hours a week looking fo work

I'm separating from my husband and have been trying to get my finances in order. We had a joint claim for tax credits which I tried to amend to a single claim, however they have cancelled the claim and told me I need to apply for universal credit instead.

I've gone through the online process and its telling me I should be able to work 25 hours a week, with a commute of up to 90 mins. Or, I should be spending 35 hours a week actively looking for work.

I have 3 DC, all at different schools. One is a 40 min drive. I'm currently retaking my GCSE's to allow me to go on to do an access course. Am I going to have to stop studying?

My 13 year old goes to a specialist school. My youngest will go to local 'normal' school.

drip drip

how come DC1 is not on transport if he is disabled and does not attend the nearest mainstream school?

LollipopViolet · 27/09/2019 13:19

Right, so is there SN involved? Because that changes things and is a massive drip feed!

ShiftHappens · 27/09/2019 13:28

Does he have an EHCP? how far is special school and who named the school?

Ludos · 27/09/2019 14:52

He's not disabled, no SN. I'm sure I have already said that.

Ah right, just with you saying he's at a specialist school and his sibling will attend mainstream.

I think something has to give OP. I know on the JSA benefit there was scope to study, as I did, but I was expected to look for full time work and give up the study if offered a job.

this explains how it works for UC

UC put you on light touch once your earnings exceed a certain level regardless of hours worked. Can't remember how much but it is not a lot in the big scheme of things.

I've been for my appointment and have been put on a 6 month easing in period so no requirements as yet. This is a huge relief.

If your kids are all at school you will be expected to look for work earning 25x nmw. You can claim help with childcare costs.

Not for at least 6 months I was told today
