Would appreciate MNs opinions on baby boy muslim names please. We have narrowed it down to three. One I really like, one DH does.

Isn't Harris spelt Haris for a Muslim boys name?

I only ask because Harris is obviously a very a British surname also

Choice4567 · 23/09/2019 18:46

I’d vote Zain

AgentProvocateur · 23/09/2019 18:53

The Muslim men I know spell it Haris, with one r.

Redshoesandtheblues · 23/09/2019 19:51

Zain

x2boys · 23/09/2019 20:00

Out of the three I would probably pick Hussain an ex colleague of mine named his son Raihan which i.really liked

MrsSiba · 23/09/2019 20:00

Love all of those names. Have also seen spelling of the first one as Zayn.

Agree Haris with one r.

Hassan and Hussain were the Prophet's (saw) grandsons and if I had twins I had those names on the list. Shame in the West the connotation with Saddam Hussein makes to Hussain ever so slightly less appealing.

MrsSiba · 23/09/2019 20:02

Sorry, you asked which ones we like so....Haris first, Hussain then Zain.

whitesockss · 23/09/2019 20:07

I like all (Haris the most) but prefer Hassan to Hussain

Jesaminecollins · 23/09/2019 20:09

I like Daniyal or Daniel because he will fit in.

NetballHoop · 23/09/2019 20:12

I like them in the order you posted them

1 Zain
2 Harris
3 Hussain

But I'd chuck in Orhan as I've always liked that name.

whitesockss · 23/09/2019 20:33

Ignore @Jesaminecollins Hmm

StripyTShirt · 23/09/2019 20:36

We've got Zakariah- I love Zain though Grin

Not sure why you would have to pick a name for him to fit in though?!?! Odd!!Hmm

Jesaminecollins · 23/09/2019 20:44

@whitesockss

Unfortunately if he has a muslim name he will not get the job he wants because I know the more english the name sounds it makes a difference.... I worked in the NHS and Doctors changed their names to make them more acceptable to patients - this is true I am afraid especially if the patients are elderly

x2boys · 23/09/2019 20:49

Even away from.London The UK is fairly multi cultural these days not sure why a child would need to fit in?Hmm

DramaAlpaca · 23/09/2019 20:51

In order of preference, Haris, Zain & Hussain.

x2boys · 23/09/2019 20:52

I also worked in the NHS in a northern town and the Drs never changed their names to fit in ....

Jesaminecollins · 23/09/2019 20:52

x2boys

I am afraid this is a sad fact of life and a lot of elderly people which make up a large amount of the UK want to deal with english people or someone who has a english sounding name. I am not racist but his happens in some parts of this country.

Jesaminecollins · 23/09/2019 20:53

@x2boys

Where did you work then?? because I know of 3 doctors who changed their names to fit in.

Jesaminecollins · 23/09/2019 20:54

@x2boys

I live more southern to you so this might make a difference.

x2boys · 23/09/2019 20:57

Maybe it's peculiar to the town you worked in but I qualified as a nurse albeit mental health in 1996 and there were several psychiatrists and sho,s and registrars that never felt the need to change their names .
