Is there a decent bought soup anywhere?

I normally make my own soup. Right now I’m ill and after setting off the fire alarm last week by forgetting the stove, I am reluctant to try again at the moment.

Over the last few days I have tried many stores soups. They are revolting. M&S chicken and vegetable tasted like it had chemicals in it (it probably does). Waitrose chicken and veg broth was the same.

Thee must be SOMEWHERE that does a decent soup. It’s not hard to make so there must be something in them to preserve them I guess?

We’re in a city so have access to places like Leon and Pret etc as well as the supermarkets. Do any of them do a decent soup. Just want something not messed about and full of rubbish. As fresh as possible.

TIA

Tesco does one in a tub in the fridge and its called Mexican bean or similar. It has beans and rice and all bits in it and its my fave bought soup

Yorkshire Provender Pea and Mint soup - it's delicious.

Frazzlerock · 23/09/2019 11:58

Really funny you say that about the Thai Chicken Yorkshire Provender one @HomewardHound as that is my favourite! I have it almost every day lately. Can't get enough of it. I had it last winter too, almost everyday. I just love it. I was going to suggest it until I read your post.

All the YP I've tried have been delicious. It helps that they are mostly GF and sugar free as I'm supposed to avoid gluten and sugar.

Yorkshire Provender Roast Chicken Soup With Traditional Vegetables is nice.

Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Can you buy a soupmaker so you don't have to worry about the safety aspect of cooking? If you regularly eat soup then it would pay for itself in a relatively short period of time when you compare the cost of home made to high end bought.

this is probably a bit infra dig for MN, but IMO Sainsburys own brand 45p tinned soups are better than most of the branded fresh ones. My favourites are mulligatawny, spring vegetable, pea and ham, and cream of mushroom.

Constantlurker · 23/09/2019 12:10

Aldi does a tomato and lentil fresh soup and it's gorgeous.

GeoffreyAndBungle · 23/09/2019 12:21

Another vote for Yorkshire provander soups - yum!

TravelsWithChild · 23/09/2019 12:30

Tesco 3 bean chilli soup is my fave Smile

Teddybear45 · 23/09/2019 12:39

Tinned soups often taste better. M&S’s tinned dahl is probably the best soup I have ever had

Hihellohi · 23/09/2019 13:00

Yes yes another post about Tesco three bean and chilli soup. It’s so delicious and h a tub is so filling too.

Hihellohi · 23/09/2019 13:01

Half a tub^

Also pret do a mushroom risotto soup which is delicious. You can check on their Instagram what days they serve it.

M&S fresh Tomato & Basil Soup is heaven!

SoftBlocks · 23/09/2019 13:04

Yorkshire Provender, Waitrose own carrot and coriander. I also quite like Soupology but they are quite expensive.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 23/09/2019 13:06

Another Cully soup fan here, their chicken and vegetable soup is delicious ( all their soups are good ).

JuneFromBethesda · 23/09/2019 13:35

Waitrose used to sell a range called Bowl. They did a Thai Red Chicken soup that was gorgeous. Then they stopped making it.

And then I found a recipe that very nearly replicated it!

I used to find homemade soup a disappointment, and could only eat shop-bought. Now it's the other way round ... weird.

YesQueen · 23/09/2019 14:04

Cully and sully chicken

fussychica · 23/09/2019 14:08

Glorious are lovely imo. I'm not keen on Covent Garden. I tried an Aldi Specially Selected one the other week, it was excellent.

YogiBear19 · 23/09/2019 14:19

I am very fussy about soup as I make my own all the time (I live on soup from around September to May!) and I’ve not tried many of the shop bought soups but I have had the Pret tomato soup a few times and think it’s really good and probably very natural.

AvengingGerbil · 23/09/2019 14:23

Heinz Cream of Tomato. It's the only boughten soup worth eating.

FawnDrench · 23/09/2019 14:26

Another vote for Cully and Sully - their chowder is delicious, as are all their other soups.

AnnPerkins · 23/09/2019 14:30

Yorkshire Provender Sweet Potato and Lentil Dahl is delicious.

Except if I'm hungover, then it has to be Heinz Lentil.

If I'm otherwise poorly and my taste buds aren't right it has to be Heinz Cream of Tomato.

magicstar1 · 23/09/2019 14:31

Aldi Specially Selected and Lidl Deluxe are nice...especially the chicken and vegetable. No chemicals in them either. I've just had a veg one for lunch - here's the ingredients
