Quick! Flight advice - can I do this?

Has anyone ever landed at an airport, turned around and got back on the same flight back to the original destination?

DH was meant to collect us today from abroad. Flight back to the UK is tomorrow. M5 crash, he's going to miss his flight. Can he fly tomorrow, land and 'pick us up' while we get on the flight back? I have 2 under 2 so can't fly on my own. I worry he'll have to go through checks etc and there won't be time. But they might make special concessions for the situation (skip queues etc.) or it might be a bit like a transfer where you don't have to go through security again.

@isurvived3under2 yup my earlier comment was specifically in response to the poster who said airlines don’t allow it for long haul travel for “protocol” reasons. Short haul aircraft are unlikely to have more than one infant mask in the same row.

FWIW immediate turnarounds are possible at Genoa airport but I’m glad you won’t have to resort to that additional stress. Travelling alone with 3 under 3 would be too much even for most people!!

Schipol you wouldn't have to go out and back in again through passports and security as you land into the area where you take off again. I've landed on one flight and then just walked to the gate for the next flight even if they are booked as two separate flights. Will be doing this in a couple of weeks for KLM flights to Schipol and then TUI flights onto Cyprus. I've no idea about other airports though.

Glad you now have it sorted.

Know this isn’t what you asked but we booked many seats for our under 2s. On many airlines. Only one at a time tho. And some airlines would make us hold the infant during take off and landing. Some didn’t though, tbh as not many people do it the air stewards were largely unaware of the correct protocol. Which airline?

We always took a carseat as made it easier at that age for them to be comfortable and safe and not escape when a bit older. If he doesn’t make it this may be a possibility?

Sorry hadn’t rtfl. Just saw your updates. Makes complete sense and glad it’s sorted.

Obviously you can only do this if your only flying with hand luggage. If you have to go and get your suitcase then you have to go back through checkin and security

Glad you have it sorted OP.
Things vary a lot by airport. I have been able to go through connections in some airports very quickly, while at MIAMI we had to go out and then come back in again as a new passenger. There was no special arrangement for connections or turnarounds.

@thisisthetime I've actually booked seats for both twins (to complicate matters further! I hadn't mentioned this as not relevant). So they do have somewhere to sit but have to be on your lap for take off and landing (with EasyJet on a short haul flight).
