Can adults get their feet measured?

I've been the same big standard shoe size since primary school but recently shoes just keep hurting my feet and I'm really struggling to find anything really comfortable and I keep getting rubbed heels and it's making me miserable. Tried getting DH to draw round my feet at home but not sure we are doing it right?

Will I look ridiculous going in to somewhere like Clark

I got mine measured in Clark’s last time I took the DC for school shoes.

Turns out I’m a 2 1/2, which explains why it’s so bloody difficult to find shoes that fit me properly.

dementedpixie · 20/09/2019 19:52

Yes they have measuring devices for adults as they used it for dds feet when we got school shoes. She is an adult 5

thirdfiddle · 20/09/2019 19:55

Just ask in the shoe shop if they measure adult feet. I had mine done after having kids as no shoes fitted me. Mind you it wasn't very helpful as it said I was a 7.5 standard width yet somehow I can't get my feet into most wide fit 8s. I think I have weird shaped feet.

I used to work for Clarks & I regularly measured adult feet, by regularly I mean a few times a week so really not unusual.
Most staff would rather measure your feet than bring out 100s of shoes because you don’t know what size you want!

SimpleAndPlanned · 20/09/2019 20:01

Oh thanks that's really helpful. I was a 6 and now I'm doubting that! But have quite high arches and my heels seem to struggle too. No idea why but I find breaking in shoes really difficult Angry

Shoes are either getting more uncomfortable or I’m getting less tolerant of pain in my old age, I know what you mean about breaking in new shoes. I try just to go from sandals to boots (both seem to be easier than actual shoes)

SimpleAndPlanned · 20/09/2019 20:10

@nancy75 I'm only in my 30s Confused
I also do lots of boots and sandals.
Feel like I just want to wear slippers all the time.

I’m ashamed to admit M&S had plain black slippers last year that I tried on, more than once, whilst wondering if I could get away with wearing them as shoes to work! Grin

thirdfiddle · 20/09/2019 20:18

That's fricking genius nancy. Goes hunting for black leather looking slippers

nancy75 · 20/09/2019 20:25

Genius or old before my tome - it’s a thin line!

cornstarch · 20/09/2019 20:27

I'd love to get my feet measured like we used to in Clarks when I was a child. The strange x ray type measuring machine. It was really exciting Smile

SimpleAndPlanned · 20/09/2019 20:29

Did you also then get some shoes with a toy in the sole and some kind of magic key?

I'm hoping some foot expert comes along soon and explains why I can't wear shoes Confused

I'm 36 and completely over having painful.feet. I am size 8 with high arches so nothing ever fits.

I now only wear Skechers. I have some trainers, sandals, ballerina style for work and boots for winter, all Skechers, all comfy, none are stylish.

redchocolatebutton · 20/09/2019 20:33

a sports shop?
I know decathlon has measuring mats with the hiking shoes

happytoday73 · 20/09/2019 20:36

Clarks... My feet had grown a size and were much wider than before kids. They are used to it

Barbarara · 20/09/2019 20:37

@nancy75 and @thirdfiddle try sketchers memory foam shoes. I can’t take mine off. They are more comfortable than my slippers!!

Treaclebee · 20/09/2019 20:37

I go from flip flops to boots too. Can't find shoes that fit, and even struggle with trainers. I'm v wide at the front with a v thin ankle and high arches Confused

gubbsywubbsy · 20/09/2019 20:47

I can't really wear shoes , they hurt my feet .. I live in trainers and certain boots or sandals ..
they rub my feet ragged and just kill , I'm guessing if I saw someone they would say I have planter facilitis or whatever it's called but I just avoid tricky shoes ..

thirdfiddle · 20/09/2019 21:00

Thanks Barbara, might just give them a try - current shoes letting in water and I've been putting it off.

SimpleAndPlanned · 20/09/2019 21:09

Feel like I've found my people.

I'm worried about sketchers, my Mum's worn them for years and I've taken the piss for years.. Grin

redchocolatebutton · 20/09/2019 21:19

beware of the memory foam sketchers.
they feel nice at first but then turn into concrete after a few minutes walking.
I definitely need wider shoes or shoes a size bigger than 10 years ago.

WeShouldOpenABar · 20/09/2019 21:23

I was warned off sketchers by a physio, they fuck up your knees apparently

AJPTaylor · 20/09/2019 21:24

Have you seen a podiatrist?
I have v high arches. Had no idea. I have custom inserts. Changed my life. Bought a half size up.shoes suddenly fitted.

TeenPlusTwenties · 20/09/2019 21:38

If you don't want Sketchers, how about Ecco or Hotter?

SudowoodoVoodoo · 20/09/2019 22:18

I just ask when the kids get fitted. No chance of growing/ expanding into adult sizes, I'm that small Grin
