Are there any normal washing powders that are scent-free?

When I say "normal" I mean the big brands that anyone could buy in a supermarket. Are any of them scent-free? I've given up with all the so-called hypoallergenic stuff as it's full of other irritants, so I'm going to try a different way. I'll consider anything as long as it doesn't contain perfume, if such a product exists.

Waitrose essential sensitive washing powder?

AwdBovril · 19/09/2019 13:10

I gave up trying years ago. Morrisons bog-standard powder, no scent. No allergic reaction.

tectonicplates · 19/09/2019 13:24

Is the Waitrose washing powder very different to the liquid, do you think? Only I tried the liquid and it made my clothes smell awful.

I use Daz, it doesn't have a strong smell & is the only on that doesn't make ds itch.

ecoloco · 19/09/2019 13:38

Sorry tectonic, we've never had the liquid so can't comment there! No problems with smell with the powder though Smile

MediocreOmens · 19/09/2019 13:41

Daz made me itch terribly and my skin is not hugely sensitive, I like Ecover but it does have a slight smell. I am not sure you will find something completely perfume free as they need to disguise the smell of the chemicals in it.

Veronicat · 19/09/2019 13:42

Asda own non bio powder works well for us.

icecreamsundae32 · 19/09/2019 13:42

Surcare you can get in most supermarkets and is scent free and allergen free

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2019 13:42

We bulk buy BioD online, it’s the only washing powder that no one in my household reacts to. It has no scent.

Ohyesiam · 19/09/2019 13:45

My family are very eczemay and get on ok with Fairy powder. I probably use a quarter of the recommended amount and it gets stuff clean.

I remember years ago some soetof washing balls that were reusable and didn’t contain detergent, so I assume no smell. I’ve seen them occasionally in health food shops, soyoucould enquire there.

RedKites · 19/09/2019 13:45

Have you tried Ecover Zero ?

tectonicplates · 19/09/2019 13:58

I used to use Ecover Zero until earlier this year when they changed their ingredients, that's why I'm looking for something else. They've made all hell break loose with their change!

Already tried Bio D and Surcare and they both make me itch all over. Also Surcare smells vile!

Basically I've given with the organic and health food shop brands. For example with soap, I've had the best success with quite bland soaps but which are not actually organic brands, just bog standard stuff that happens to be scent-free. So I'm looking for some washing powder along those lines.

I have always used Persil or Fairy Non Bio powder and don't think that has a scent. My clothes certainly don't smell of anything when they are washed although my son uses Fairy non bio liquitabs (horrible environmentally unfriendly things) and his clothes have a strong scent!

I used those two because my two sons had severe excema when he was little and they were the only ones which didn't set off a reaction!

tectonicplates · 19/09/2019 14:04

@Ohyesiam Fairy powder contains perfume.

LolaSmiles · 19/09/2019 14:06

Ecover laundry liquid is good. You can get t at larger supermarkets and on home delivery.

tectonicplates · 19/09/2019 14:07

@Blobby10 Fairy powder contains perfume. It says so on the ingredients list. I've smelled it in a shop and it was so overpowering!

OP posts:
tectonicplates · 19/09/2019 14:07

I used to use Ecover but had to stop because they changed their ingredients.

tectonicplates · 19/09/2019 14:10

I'm giving up on the organic and "skin friendly" brands because none of them actually are. That's why I'm just looking for some bog-standard stuff because I've wasted too much money recently.

Have you tried Neutral? Not sure how widely available it is, but my local Sainsbury's stocks it.

haverhill · 19/09/2019 14:15

Could you use soap nuts instead?
They’re quite good apparently.

Blobby10 · 19/09/2019 14:16

@tectonicplates honestly didn't know that - I kind of assumed it would but noticed last weekend that my clothes don't smell of artificial scent after washing so thought they must had taken the perfume out! Maybe time for a washing machine clean!!

tectonicplates · 19/09/2019 14:19

Soap nuts smell vile and made me feel like I was burning all over.

I haven't explained myself very well in my OP, have I?! I'm giving up with organic and "natural" and "sensitive" products because they are all terrible, and either make me itch or smell so bad they make me feel sick. So I've realised this whole organic and "natural" thing is a complete misnomer. That's why I'm looking for some bog standard stuff. I'm just allergic to perfume and can't bear anything that smells.

butteriesplease · 19/09/2019 14:22

i use Asda own brand non-bio, no scent. it's fine. I got Daz, and find it heavily perfumed!

Also, you can use less powder than they say - clothes still clean, and less stuff in the wash to irritate your skin.

Plus, Asda stuff is cheap. bonus.

tectonicplates · 19/09/2019 14:22

Ingredients of Fairy non-bio: 5-15% Anionic Surfactants , Oxygen-Based Bleaching Agents ,
