What can I sit 4 month old who has outgrown bouncer in

My dd was born at and remains above 90th centile and at just over 4 months she is over the weight limit for her beloved bouncer.

We use it loads as she'll only tolerate lying down for short periods when awake, she likes to be more upright. I was going to get a bumbo seat but the OT at our children's centre advises against as apparently they limit the development of core muscles.

What other options are there? She can't really sit supported yet never mind unsupported, I've been propping her up on the settee but she keels over within about 30 seconds bless.

I had mine in swing seats long after they could push them theirselves.

Hmm, more options than I expected, @Aaarrgghhh and @Blahblahblahnanana thanks for that rocker suggestion, I could definitely see her loving that! We probably will get a jumparoo at some point but I don't think she has the necessary trunk control quite yet...I know they can come on in leaps and bounds at this age but I reckon she's still a month or two off being able to go in one of those, it would be nice to get something before then or I'll have a long few weeks ahead!

Maybe a doomoo seat?

Baby bjorn seat is still the best thing I've ever bought. Both my two love it. My son is 3 months 98th centile and nearly 18lbs already and loves it.

Jumperoo comes a close second. I didn't think you could use the jumoeroo before 6mths but might get it out try although it is soooo ugly 😂

a bumbo is handy

timeisnotaline · 19/09/2019 01:37

Chicco highchair is suitable from newborn, look it up. I like the bumbo but at that age think it shouldn’t be for too long.

ColaFreezePop · 19/09/2019 02:03

I have a fisher price rocker like two PPs have linked to and my one year old will randomly happily climb into it.

Before she could do that she would happily be strapped in though being inquisitive she worked out how to get the toys of the bar from 6 months.

Orchidflower1 · 19/09/2019 06:04

Op we had the reclining Chico high chair which is from 3m (I think!) but check as it wa a while ago.

Fluffsmum · 19/09/2019 06:20

@Userzzzzz I present to you my DC2! Hates the jumperoo. Much to my chargrin! She just cries in it.

Userzzzzz · 19/09/2019 06:24

Fluffsmum Noooo- that’s so annoying for you! I think I’d have cried if my second hated it.

Luciey · 19/09/2019 07:01

I hate to be that person but I would be trying to encourage more floor time. I have a 9 month old and so many people in my mother's groups etc are now complaining that their babies aren't rolling/crawling and it's because they used to just rotate their babies between bouncer seats, jumperoos and activity stations so they never got a chance to practice moving. Something to think about. Personally I used a bouncer chair sparingly, I even use it now sometimes even though he is probably way over the weight limit. I just make sure he's strapped in, on the ground and supervised.

Userzzzzz · 19/09/2019 08:07

Luciey I agree with importance of floor time. Although I just caught my 6m old pushing herself on the floor with intent towards the jumperoo!

Kpo58 · 19/09/2019 08:31

Don't get a bumbo. If the baby has chubby legs, then you won't be able to get them in the leg holes.

Fleanne · 19/09/2019 08:43

We have the baby Bjorn bouncer (bought 2nd hand for half the price - one of our best buys) and the fisher price giraffe chair. Both were great - but my now 8 month old can climb out of them so they no longer contain her!

Luciey · 19/09/2019 09:04

I have no doubt babies love these devices because it's much easier when you're being upright and supported than having to do it yourself. It's why so many babies hate tummy time, it's hard.

peachgreen · 19/09/2019 09:08

The Baby Bjorn bouncer was one of those things that I thought couldn't possibly be worth the cost but it absolutely was, it's so far and away superior to any other bouncer. Get it second hand though, the covers wash really well. And yes, a jumperoo is pretty essential!

gracepoolesrum · 19/09/2019 09:31

@Luciey I take your point but we're actually under the OT for neurodevelopmental assessments as my DD had a difficult birth and was deprived of oxygen, they have no concerns and are happy with her physical development, so I feel she's doing enough tummy time. I think as long as they do a few bursts of 10-15 minutes a day that's plenty.

@gracepoolesrum glad to hear she's doing well! All the best.
