Would you read Harry Potter again?

Just curious, I would have read them all at least twice but that would be a good few years ago .. maybe 10?

I loved it and still do but it seems maybe childish now?

(Not childish as in reading it, but childish as in the story itself seems child like)

Yes do!

I read them all the time and they never ever get old.

grandmasterstitch · 15/09/2019 21:36

Yes! And listen to the audiobooks. I probably read them/listen to them once a year

grandmasterstitch · 15/09/2019 21:37

Plus the last few books are pretty dark, I wouldn't call them childlike

I’m in my 40s and I’ve reread them loads of times, probably at least 5 times for the whole series, maybe more.

Rockbird · 15/09/2019 21:39

Yes I would. I read them avidly on release days but I haven't read them since. DD1 is obsessed with HP so I hear about it all the time but haven't read the books for ages. Keep meaning to do it.

Ginkypig · 15/09/2019 21:40

I'm not sure if I would.

Iv read them all once as they were released but I have never felt the need to read them again.

I might do one day and wouldn't get rid of the copies I have because I might but so far I haven't wanted to.

Crunchymum · 15/09/2019 21:42

Will read them to / with my DC at some stage. Probably quite soon as DC1 (almost 7) is a fab reader.

FenellaMaxwell · 15/09/2019 21:42

I have read them dozens of times, and loved and treasured them. Would I reread them now that JKR is seeking to rewrite history with the crappy new films? Probably not, which makes me quite sad.

janj2301 · 15/09/2019 21:43

No. Read them when they first came out and enjoyed them, then saw a couple if the movies, completely spoilt the books for me. I hate seeing films of books as i then see the characters as the actors I can't go back to the way I imagined them originally

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/09/2019 21:44

I'm reading them with my 8yo at the moment (on Chamber of Secrets at the moment). I will do Prisoner with her but then pause for a bit with her, so might re read 4-7 myself. (Hopefully when she's emotionally ready for the later ones she won't need them reading to her).

MissisBee · 15/09/2019 21:44

I've read them several times over, once in reverse order, which was interesting. Haven't for a few years, might wait until DS is old enough for them

KyraLittle · 15/09/2019 21:45

Is it as good when you know what’s going to happen?

OP posts:
june2007 · 15/09/2019 21:45

The early books yes. the last ones weren't as good. (Like they hadn't been edited.)

fergusthefrog · 15/09/2019 21:45

I am always midway through one. I just put them down and pick them up once in a while - I love them. I'm mid twenties and have done this since I was about 6/7.

KyraLittle · 15/09/2019 21:46

Is it quite dark in the end? I can’t really remember - maybe s sign I should read them.

I know there were a lot of deaths in the final battle. But don’t remember much else being dark.

pimbee · 15/09/2019 21:47

Have you got young children? I'm reading them to my eldest, will probably have to repeat for my youngest in a few years 🙈

I've never read anything more than once for pleasure, never appealed although I can re watch films and tv I love over and over!

Happypelican · 15/09/2019 21:48

When they first were about I read them all a couple of times watched the films more recent. Hadn’t read them for years then decided to re read them around a year ago and still loved it so much stuff I’d forgotten about but I’m Harry Potter nerd 😂

ArcticHair · 15/09/2019 21:50

I just re-read the entire series (or rather listened to the audiobooks) and I was astonished how many details I'd forgotten, despite having read them over and over and over as a teenager. Do it, you'll probably realise you've forgotten loads as well!

PhantomErik · 15/09/2019 21:50

I'm re-reading them right now!

I read them when they were each released years ago & have enjoyed the films but my DS started reading them recently & loves them & was talking about bits the films miss out & it got me interested again.

I'm loving it, a real escape for everyday stresses.

Quite tempted to re-read Malory Towers next!

heeblejeeble · 15/09/2019 21:51

I'm reading them now. I only read them once when they came out one by one and then I've seen the films so many times I had completely forgotten other parts of the books that are so good.
Honestly read them again! I'm on book 5 now but already know I'll start from book 1 again when I'm finished as I'm loving them

Blueoasis · 15/09/2019 21:52

Lost count of how often I've reread them. Grin

shuckleberryfinn · 15/09/2019 21:52

I've reed them over and over. I love revisiting books. But lately I'm really enjoying the audio books much more. They're unabridged.

Blueoasis · 15/09/2019 21:53

Actually, I read the goblet of fire so often, the front cover came off and it was a hardback. Grin The philosophers stone has pages that will fall out too.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 15/09/2019 21:53

Totally! I've read them all a few times, my 8 year old DD is working her way through them and they've both watched all the films. I have a DS too.
We're a be HP mad in this house. Our cats are called Hermione and Bellatrix!

M0reGinPlease · 15/09/2019 21:54

I was just saying to DH yesterday I can't wait until DD is old enough to want to hear them so I can re-read them to her.
