What makes you feel cosy?

(Inspired by the wonderful cosy books thread in What We're Reading)
So the nights are drawing in and our thoughts are turning to woolly jumpers and evenings by the fire, hot drinks, pyjamas and candles. I have some trusty old favourites that help me feel cosy at this time of year;

Smells: glade spiced apple cinnamon & nutmeg candle/plug in; yankee maple syrup candle; pumpkin scented candles if I can find them. I would love to find a similarly comforting burner oil but haven't so far!

Food: stews, especially Irish or beef;
mashed swede; parsnips

Drink: Starbucks pumpkin spice latte with cream, I had my first of the season this week and it was like a hug in a mug

Tv: Frasier - I can't imagine it ever being warm and sunny in Seattle! Love the episodes where they stay in log cabins and all the scenes in Cafe Nervosa;
Friends when they're wearing chenille and Joey has his big jumpers on;
Call The Midwife

Films: disregarding Christmas movies because for me these are strictly December viewing only - pretty much any black and white film, but I'll say Rebecca or Mr Smith Goes to Washington;
I'm really looking forward to seeing the Downton Abbey film next week, I'm going to book reclining seats and take a blanket

Music: this is the category I'm struggling with. Apart from Christmas tunes it's hard to think of cosy music but so far in my 'Cosy' playlist I have Norah Jones Don't Know Why, John Mayer Who Says and my favourite so far, Iron and Wine Each Coming Night. I would love some suggestions for this category as I'm sure there are lots I've forgotten!

What helps you get cosy and enter hibernation mode? Smile

The White Company 'Winter' candle.

Accidentally, always borrowing DH's dressing gown because it's enormous and cosy and smells very faintly of him.

Putting all the winter weight quilts, brushed cotton bedding and heavy throws back on the beds. When it's really chilly I still sometimes pop a hot water bottle in our children's beds, they're too cool for school teens but I know they love it.

My hot water bottle, my heated back pad thing, my extensive range of house shoes for any weather, also my extensive range of humongous cardigans and jumpers and socks. Cups of decaf tea. I never think of food as being cosy... I'll need to give that some thought!

Bunnybigears · 12/09/2019 16:18

My cats all sleeping on me for warmth. I tend to have one at a time in summer in Autumn /winter I have all 3 at once.

Bluetit101 · 12/09/2019 16:28

I love autumn, October and December are my favourite months as autumn and Christmas are my favourite times of year 😊

I love anything pumpkin or pumpkins spiced! TK Maxx does the best pumpkin candles BTW!

I love nights in with my family, watching films under a blanket with hot chocolates with the full works (cream, marshmallows, flake..)
Autumn Sunday's are my favourite. I put a roast dinner on, then we go for a walk in the woods or to watch my DS play football, go for a Costa and then home for a roast dinner and a film.

VictoriaBun · 12/09/2019 16:34

Putting on my little lights on the fireplace. Drawing the curtains ( we call it time to shut out the world ) And getting out my crochet.

HoneyBee03 · 12/09/2019 16:35

Comfy clothes, big jumper and fluffy socks, while sitting in front of the fire with rain hammering on the window, with nowhere to go for the rest of the day. Oh and a nice cup of freshly brewed coffee.

I was thinking about getting the wood burner going again soon and stocking up on logs, but was genuinely disappointed when I saw the sunny weather forecast for the weekend.

Autumn is so cosy, I love to light the log burner and set up my spinning wheel and spend an evening peacefully spinning by firelight. I love candles, pyjamas, hot baths with the windows open to feel the cold air. Red amber incense sticks, table lamps, no overhead lighting allowed. Making soup and bread, hot chocolate and marshmallows, endless books to read, radio plays, it is all lovely until Christmas.

vampirethriller · 12/09/2019 17:12

Campbell's tomato soup
Blackberry jam
Curried goat

Orange and clove oil in the burner
Big dressing gown

managedmis · 12/09/2019 17:15

Apple picking
Wearing woolly socks
Cooking cosy food : got a pot of leek, carrot and potato soup on the hob
Using the word 'hob'
Making hot choc for the kids
Cool nights - love the window open so you get a breeze

Love

Putting the fire on (just a gas fire but it looks so pretty and is so hot)
Our cat. Whether she’s sleeping on us or just curled up on the other sofa her presence just makes everything feel extra cosy.
Hot chocolate. That’s a boring one I know.
Movie night with the kids. They bring their duvets down and snuggle on the floor at my feet.
Just sitting watching TV with my husband all snuggled up.
A big soft jumper.
Christmas decorations, I wait until the first weekend in December though.
Ooh I feel all cosy just reading everyone else’s lists 🙂

Billballbaggins · 12/09/2019 17:23

Ooh also conker hunting with the kids, that’s always great at this time of year.
Eating a nice big slow cooked stew.
Tea and biscuits.
My mum’s macaroni cheese.

Egghead68 · 12/09/2019 17:25

Electric blanket.

Bluewavescrashing · 12/09/2019 18:09

Baked apples and custard
Jacket potatoes

GlasshouseStoneThrower · 12/09/2019 18:50

Smells: Anthropologie pumpkin soufflé candle / cinnamon oil in the burner

Food: apple crumble / baked potatoes

Drink: sherry

Tv: Gilmore Girls

Films: Dead Poet's Society / Goodwill Hunting / You've Got Mail

Music: All Too Well, Taylor Swift

Bapman · 12/09/2019 18:53

Conker picking with the kids. Taking DD to school when it’s raining. Bubble baths when it’s raining

firesong · 12/09/2019 19:43

Sitting in bed with a faint autumnal light coming through the window, re-reading an old favourite

Fluffy socks

Loads of candles, and low wattage warm white bulbs in my lamps

Walking with toddler after school run on my day off

Dr1ftw00d · 12/09/2019 19:44

I love tea lights, candles, brushed cotton sheets and my Paines log cabin burner. The smell is Maine woods and the smoke coming out of the chimney reminds me of The Little House on the Prairie.😍

I also love Kelle Hampton’s yearly Fall bucket list and her Autumn playlist

What makes you feel cosy?
AndroidB · 12/09/2019 19:52

Pjs and a fleece dressing gown
Disney film
Reading in bed
Fluffy socks
And warm comfort food like a stew

AwdBovril · 12/09/2019 19:55

Making the Christmas cake - which I started today. Fruit is soaking, nuts chopped, butter out to soften overnight. (I always forget to get it out in the mad morning rush.)
🎵 ~ It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas ~ 🎵

Knitting - I like knitting generally but, during parts of this summer, & for the entirety of last summer, I could barely tolerate clothing, let alone having any additional cloth resting on my lap.

Hot chocolate. (Let's face it... any excuse!)
