How much weight to see the difference

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 09:15

I have recently lost 1 stone taking me from 11st 3 to 10st 3, I think I can see a bit of a difference this morning but no massive changes.

How much weight do you need to loose to really see a difference?

I know it varies from person to person and shape to shape but just generally speaking?

I lost almost three stone and it was very noticeable Smile

PapaStinky · 12/09/2019 09:22

When I lost a stone I was really chuffed with myself but no-one else seemed to notice. All that effort for not one comment 🤷‍♀️

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 09:26

I am hoping to loose another 2 stone so I would hope it would be very noticeable by then. (I am short and small framed).

I thought my clothes would be hanging off after a whole stone but in reality they are just a bit more comfortable.

Close to 3 stone for people to comment for me.

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 09:31

3 stone is a lot to lose before it's noticeable, no wonder people get disheartened and give up.

There's a woman in my office who can spot if anyone has lost more than about 5 lbs and always comments (it's bloody annoying). I'm assuming she can spot when it goes back on again too, but she keeps those observations to herself......

Hmmmbop · 12/09/2019 09:59

Depends on your height and how you carry it. I lost a stone and couldn't see much difference, but by 1.5stone the difference was really big. I took photos in my underwear to compare though as it can be hard to see in the mirror.

Honeybingbong · 12/09/2019 10:01

The beginning of this year I was 11st 9lbs. I’m also 5ft 2. Nobody seemed to notice till I hit just below 10st. When I hit the 9st mark lots of people commented. This morning I’m 8st 8lbs so I’ve lost 3st.

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 10:04

@Honeybingbong what is your target weight? I am aiming for just over 8st.

It would be very rude of her to comment if people gain 5lb, I try not to mention anyone's weight unless I know they are dieting.

I am apple shape so carry on my belly mostly.

I've lost 9st (over 3 years, 3st initially, then 6st in last 18m)
It wasnt until the last 2 stone that people really commented.
Pfff. My health is much improved.

You are doing great. Keep going if you can.x

Yeahnahyeah1 · 12/09/2019 10:08

Mm, well my ma notices when I lose anything more than 7lbs, (and definitely notices if I put on any at all!) but generally it’s about a stone for me. I lost a fair bit last year, taking me from 14st4 Blush at 5’8 to 11st8 ish. Everyone commented by the end of that! I have now settled around 12st7 (damn it) and still get comments from people who haven’t seen me for a while.

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 10:08

9 stone is a huge achievement! well done!!

It's not so much even comments from other people, I just thought I would be able to see more changes by now.

OP posts:
eeksville · 12/09/2019 10:14

I normally think its noticeable to yourself when more than 7lbs but only really becomes noticeable to others after 1.5 stones. I do think build & shape affect it too.

I remember loosing 2 stone after uni & no one noticed the 1 stone but after 2 stone people thought I had lost 4 stone. I did a lot of exercise though so maybe it looked liked I had lost more.

eeksville · 12/09/2019 10:15

Are you doing exercise?
I find that has much more impact on my actual shape than dieting.

ARoomWithoutADoor · 12/09/2019 10:26

It's often v difficult to 'see' in yourself.
Underwear pics in mirror help me to see the difference (I struggle)

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 10:27

I haven't done any exercise since about Easter. I need to pick it back up again but moved recently and seem to have zero spare time with sorting the new house out. Excuses I know!

took 2 stone on me for people to notice. I have another 2 to lose to put it into perspective

Honeybingbong · 12/09/2019 10:29

When I started 8st 7 was what I was hoping for with a bmi of 21 and a size 10.

I think I’m going to try to get down to 8st but I’m not sure. Without been braggy I’m feeling really good in myself and all my jeans are a size 10 and now my bmi is 22.

Just wanted to add I’ve done this for myself. The compliments are nice but not a patch with how proud I am of me. I’ve also only taken 7lbs at a time and then had a cheat day so it’s not felt such a slog because 3st felt like a mountain.

justilou1 · 12/09/2019 10:32

I was morbidly obese two years ago. I have since lost 60kgs. The first 10-15kgs, barely anyone noticed, and those bastards were the hardest to shift. Now I’m very slim and if I lose or gain a kilo or two, it’s national news. (I really feel it, too!!!) I suspect that the more you have to lose, the less visually noticeable the first pounds are however, your body knows!!!

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 10:42

I am still classed as overweight with a bmi of 26 so got a ways to go yet.

I think at our height we can safely weigh as little as 7st 3lb so 8st seems a good target. You are doing great.

GilmoreMe · 12/09/2019 10:42

I lost nearly 3 stone before anyone noticed (I am very overweight and tall and just generally big).

DearTeddyRobinson · 12/09/2019 10:55

People started noticing after my first stone (2 to go). I'm tall (5'10") and my BMI went from just outside the healthy range into just inside.
Most of my clothes now fit better and I'm fitting back into some smaller stuff but I'm still not at the stage of needing to buy new stuff!

Wwydpooh · 12/09/2019 10:58

I think sometimes when people are very overweight, whilst the weightloss is noticeable, people don't like mentioning it because it's a bit like saying "you were really fat and now you aren't quite so much" where as once people are more a healthy weight you can say "you are looking really good" which is euphemism for "you've lost weight" without actually saying it.

OpenYourEyes · 12/09/2019 11:01

That makes a lot of sense actually Wwydpooh, you don't want to give a back handed compliment.

it seems a good stone at the least is required for noticeable change, I will keep at it and hold off on buying those size 10s just yet!

TheMustressMhor · 12/09/2019 11:08

Well I've lost five stone and I don't think I look any different.

I suppose I must look different but it's been so slow that it hasn't been obvious.

I need smaller clothes though. And DH says he can see a difference.

Keep going OP. Eventually you'll reach a healthy BMI (and so will I) and then we will definitely see a difference.
