Boil on skin while on holiday in US

WTF0ver · 10/09/2019 03:07

I've had this boil at the top of my inner thigh for about 5 days now. It was originally smallish and I tried putting a hot compress on it which didn't have much affect but didn't think much of it.

Fast forward and I'm now in Las Vegas and getting married to DP in a few days. Evidently the heat and walking hasn't agreed with the boil as it's now larger and feels deeper and with a greater circumference.

I've been doing hot compresses again, but not sure if it's having any effect. Is there anything I can get from a chemist (Walgreens?) that would help? I'd rather avoid seeing a doctor at this stage (not sure it's bad enough just now and I feel ok in myself, no temperature or anything). It's just rubbing as I walk and I think that's made it worse. Thanks for any advice.

You want to get yourself off to Sporner Corner. They'll sort you out. Although they will want pictures.

VimFuego101 · 10/09/2019 03:14

If you need to see a dr, then try a CVS minute clinic - they're pretty cheap (would call first to make sure they can help with your situation, not sure if they can drain and dress wounds). Or ask your hotel to provide you with details of an urgent care.

Do you think putting one of those Compeed padded plasters on it would help? You might be able to get Amazon 2 hour delivery if you're staying on the strip. Magnesium sulphate will also draw it to a head/ dry it out.

I’d imagine the heat and especially the hot compresses are just exacerbating it? Have you tried cooking aloe vera, ice packs, etc, or topical antihistamines? If not, a chemist is there to give you advice, so just go in and ask?

Or just go to Sporner corner as previous poster said, they're the real experts Smile

Cooling not cooking 🙈😂

Episcomama · 10/09/2019 03:19

Ho to Walgreens or CVS and get the advice of a pharmacist.

Episcomama · 10/09/2019 03:20

Go to, even!!

Episcomama · 10/09/2019 03:35

A lot of Targets have walk-in clinics too.

Expressedways · 10/09/2019 03:47

You could to Walgreens or CVS and get seen in the clinic (check online as I don’t think every location has them). You typically see a nurse if you go there. However, I’d personally go to urgent care as you can see a doctor and be confident it’ll be sorted straightaway. They’re usually very efficient and last time I took DD to one we didn’t even wait 5 minutes.

Hope you get it sorted before your wedding day!

HeronLanyon · 10/09/2019 03:56

I too would get it seen. Boils can become worse quite quickly and you’d hate that to happen given you are getting married soon. Better safe than sorry. Congrats btw !

drsausage · 10/09/2019 05:29

I'd go somewhere like a Minute Clinic or Concentra Urgent Care. They'll see you quickly and it's not anywhere near as expensive as an ER.

Looking at Google Maps there's a Minute Clinic in the CVS beside the Paris, and another in the CVS in front of the Aria. And several Concentras slightly further out.

HeronLanyon · 10/09/2019 05:40

drsausage excellent ‘boots on the ground’ advice there. Here in London wouldn’t have any idea and always fearful of cost and insurance cover re us treatment !

Defender90 · 10/09/2019 05:49

I'm a sporner and I'll be in Vegas on Friday. Just saying. I'll even bring my own tweezers.

Hope you get it sorted. My first time in Vegas I had to get my (soon to be) DH to needle my blisters.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/09/2019 05:54

Get a picture @Defender90

WTF0ver · 10/09/2019 18:39

I don't know what Sporner Corner is, so I googled it. It's just a MN thing, yes?!

I went to Walgreens last night but the pharmacy was closed so I got some boil cream and Epsom salts to try. Will look for the Minute Clinic as well, I want rid of this thing fast!

Haha @Defender90 we're leaving on Friday so I'm safe from the tweezers Wink

Thanks everyone for your advice! Hopefully the little bastard will be gone soon!

Sporner Corner is a MN thing. It's one of the areas. If you search on MN you'll find it.

Emmas1985 · 10/09/2019 19:08

Try and find some magnesium sulphate paste and get some dressings, it will draw the puss up to the surface so that you can get it out, if it’s scarily big though you need to see a dr

MadCap · 10/09/2019 19:11

DD had an infected verruca when we were on hols in the US last month. Lots of pus under skin. So sorta like a boil. We took her to an urgent care type place. It was $100 for the visit and $15 for the antibiotics. Luckily they didn't want to lance it. I was pleasantly surprised by how inexpensive it was.

HermioneWeasley · 10/09/2019 19:12

After a very hot shower, put a hot teaspoon on it and then stick a needle in. Drain what you can. Cover with a dressing (you can get alcohol wipes and micropore tape). Keep repeating.

JapaneseBirdPainting · 10/09/2019 19:17

Give me 12 hours - plane to Heathrow then I am on it. I am coming ready with a pin, a cloth and a youtube account.

Rocketmanager · 10/09/2019 19:19

Try and get an appt with doctor pimple popper.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 10/09/2019 19:21

Yes! The USofA is home to Dr Lee ... go find her quick, she'll sort ya 👍🏻

FleurNancy · 10/09/2019 19:23

Magnesium sulphate paste is what you need if that helps. I used to get loads of the buggers when pregnant.

BillThePony · 10/09/2019 19:29

There is a CVS minute clinic near the Park MGM that has a walk in clinic. I had to use them and they were pretty good. I think there is also one further up the strip at the Walgreens near the Venetian.

Thread is worthless without pics
