Totally frustrated with Air BnB (please note this is not in AIBU......)

I am not being fair

DD has to work in London tomorrow

I have booked an air bnb about an hour and a half ago - it has not been confirmed (I know they are probably busy/at work etc)

But they have taken the money from my CC and I am unsure about sending her off on the train with no hotel confirmed at the other end (which is about me not her - she is carefree and will get on the train no matter what)

Do I book another room or hang on, if I am hanging on, how long do I hang on

Can you search up suitable hotels near to the Airbnb which you can book if the Airbnb is not confirmed in time? Then she can start her journey (which presumably will take a while) and call you for an update when she is closer.

usersouthcoast · 09/09/2019 19:13

I agree, go to booking.com or similar and get yourself a back up plan list so you can relax a little.

SunsetYorks · 09/09/2019 19:17

I’m confused, as an Airbnb host the money isn’t released unless confirmed? What does your reply say?

SunsetYorks · 09/09/2019 19:18

Also was it your account? Airbnb hosts are not allowed to accept 3rd party bookings?

StoorieHoose · 09/09/2019 19:22

What age is your daughter and why are you arranging accommodation when her workplace or her should be doing it?

KatyMac · 09/09/2019 19:23

Her account
My paypal
She can't afford it until she has been paid for tomorrow

PayPal says I've authorised a payment

Have found a hotel as back sheesh it's expensive!

She is 21 and working until 7:30 with a call-time of 6:30 tomorrow and the email arrived after she started working

Yes I could have ignored the email but I didnt

SunsetYorks · 09/09/2019 19:25

Have Airbnb sent you a pending or confirmed booking email?

KatyMac · 09/09/2019 19:26

Pending......or I'd be ok

OP posts:
SunsetYorks · 09/09/2019 19:31

Ah ok, hosts have 24hrs to accept requests, hopefully though if they accept same day bookings they will check regularly!

KatyMac · 09/09/2019 19:37

It said we had 4 hrs left to book

Sigh

Ah well she is on the train

OP posts:
SunsetYorks · 09/09/2019 19:42

Fingers crossed.

KatyMac · 09/09/2019 19:49

At what point can I abandon the booking and rebook somewhere else?

I can't afford to pay twice

What’s their cancellation policy?
Can you call Airbnb and ask them to phone them? The app often plays up and as a host you don’t get messages straight away.

KatyMac · 09/09/2019 20:03

Cancellation policy

Strict (grace period). Full refund if cancellation is within 48 hours of booking.

For a full refund of the nightly rate, cancellation must be made at least 14 full days prior to listing’s local check-in time (or 3:00 PM if not specified) on the day of check-in.

For a 50% refund of the nightly rate, cancellation must be made 7 full days prior to listing’s local check in time (or 3:00 PM if not specified) on the day of check in, otherwise no refund. For example, if check-in is on Friday, cancel by Friday of the previous week before check in time.

If the guest cancels less than 7 days in advance or decides to leave early after check-in, the nights not spent are not refunded.

Cleaning fees are always refunded if the reservation is canceled before check-in.

The Airbnb service fee is refundable up to 3 times per year if the guest cancels within 48 hours of booking and at least 14 days before check-in. It isn’t refundable if the guest cancels a reservation that overlaps with any part of an existing reservation.

Accommodation fees (the total nightly rate you’re charged) are refundable in certain circumstances as outlined below.

If there is a complaint from either party, notice must be given to Airbnb within 24 hours of check-in.

Airbnb will mediate when necessary, and has the final say in all disputes.

A reservation is officially canceled when the guest clicks the cancellation button on the cancellation confirmation page, which they can find in Dashboard > Your Trips > Change or Cancel.

Cancellation policies may be superseded by the Guest Refund Policy, extenuating circumstances, or cancellations by Airbnb for any other reason permitted under the Terms of Service. Please review these exceptions.

Ah it isn't confirmed yet and we can withdraw our request - so I'll wait until she gets to London then withdraw it

I sent a second message & he has cancelled

Now I have to find something cheap (ish)

Afaik airbnb take the money on booking. Even if that is a year before the booking they take it and the host does not get their share until after the guest has checked in. So there is never any point in contacting the host (except as a bit of support). They can do nothing. If it was an instant booking then assume it is confirmed (with an instant booking the host has to jump through hoops to cancel and risk being penalised even then). I hope it ends up being straightforward for your DD.

SunsetYorks · 09/09/2019 20:12

Oh no! That’s tough .... may be too late for a last minute Airbnb.

WWlOOlWW · 09/09/2019 20:17

Did you find somewhere ?

Trumpton · 09/09/2019 20:20

Oh Katy what a pain ! I hope you find somewhere soon !

Lonecatwithkitten · 09/09/2019 20:23

What about a youth hostel many of the London ones have single rooms,

KatyMac · 09/09/2019 20:24

I've tried another airbnb nearly twice the price but a superhost....who knows

If worst comes to the worst I'll pay for the travelodge but it's eyewatering!

I hate late notice/early call times - but that's the job

I've stayed at the Restup near Elephant & Castle before (I was old enough to be everyone's Mum but needed a cheap place!). It's near the tube station and you can pay slightly extra to have your own room and bathroom. It's tiny and very basic, but clean and secure and very cheap given its central location.

LaPufalina · 09/09/2019 20:30

I lived in London for years and so really resent hotel prices when I go back, especially if I'm paying for it myself. Easyhotel (easyJet family) are ok x
