Would really appreciate knowing your daily/weekly skin care routine please. Before DC I used to take care of my skin a lot better. Now without make up it looks dreadful. Partly I suspect because I don't drink enough water and often forget to wash my make up off at night Blush.
Don't have a massive budget so would also appreciate any bargain beauty finds you know of.
At the minute I literally use Simple face wash then a cheap Nivea moisturiser and when I remember a face sunscreen.
I was looking at the body shop range particularly at the oils. Has anyone tried them? I'm now in my mid 30s so need to start thinking about anti ageing. But they were quite expensive so didn't want to waste £££.

Have a look at The Ordinary, also Cerave and any of the French brands, La Roche Posay, Avenue, Eucerin, Vichy etc. Most of them have super helpful websites and all can be found in Boots and usually on some sort of offer!

CassianAndor · 08/09/2019 21:22

Never wear make up

Wash face with water and flannel

Moisturise with Superdrug vitamin E moisturiser

Drink a lot of water. Not very good with fruit, however.

Wehttam · 08/09/2019 21:32
  1. Drink water like there’s no tomorrow, like aim for at least 2.5-3 litres per day you will notice a difference immediately.

  2. Don’t smoke or excessively drink alcohol it’s incredibly aging and literally wrecks your body and skin.

  3. Always remove your make up at night and double cleanse then moisturise

  4. Use a Konjac sponge in the morning with a cleanser

  5. Chanel Micro serum is a gift from god.

  6. Look at The Ordinary they are great for your age range.

  7. Look up Caroline Hirons blog or YouTube she’s very informative.

All the lotions and potions in the world will be a waste of time if you dont drink water and have a good diet. Good skin starts inside!!!

Leftielefterson · 08/09/2019 21:39

Agree with other posters water is really key to good skin. I’ve ditched the Diet Coke and just have water now. I also try and limit caffeine as much as I can.

Am routine

Cleanse
Toner pads (Ren, pixi)
Serum (worth spending some £££ on this step. I use Dr Seabagh and Omorovicza currently)
Moisturiser with at least spf 30
Vitamin C when I can be bothered

Pm routine - the same but I use retinol. Currently using Murad, v.good.

As another poster has said Caroline Hiron’s Blog is a fantastic resource for all things skincare

prettygreenteacup · 08/09/2019 21:48

I'm a big fan of The Ordinary!

I drink 2 litres of water a day (most days!) and only need to wear foundation for going out, on a daily basis concealer is enough. I'm 30.

AM routine:
Gel face wash
Hydrating toner (just a cheap supermarket one for sensitive skin but my skin loves it)
The Ordinary Buffet serum
The Ordinary Niacinamide serum
Vitamin C moisturiser & eye cream

PM routine:
Double cleanse, first cleanse is Eye make up remover and cleansing milk
Second cleanse is hot cloth cleanser
Glycolic toner
The Ordinary Argeline solution under eyes
The Ordinary Niacinamide
Night cream

Best anti-ageing strategy is to wear a decent sunscreen! I use Waitrose pure daycream followed by a neutrogena high spf facial sunscreen. I think people underestimate UV damage in the UK...

I thought the whole ‘two litres of water a day’ thing has been proven to be utter tosh? I mean, sure, drink water, and drink it rather than squash or booze, but there’s no need to drink 2 litres. Your food is predominantly made up of water, after all.

CassianAndor not at all, it’s incredible for the skin. Your skin literally reflects your digestive system and internal workings. Water will flush out toxins and help your digestive tract work better. To be frank it’s about being regular too, constipation or poor pooing action will make your skin look off.

It’s also about hydration. The more plain water the better because the body doesn’t have to work on ‘finding’ the water if it’s in say food or tea coffee.

CassianAndor · 08/09/2019 22:39

Wet I’m sorry but that really sounds like twaddle and a quick google tells me it is twaddle.

Wehttam · 08/09/2019 22:53

I’ll sit here with my glowing plumped hydrated clear twaddle skin then and great disgestion regular twaddle poo. 🙄

SunshineAngel · 08/09/2019 23:02

I drink lots of water, and wash my face when I have a shower with Clinique anti-blemish face wash. I only use that because I had really bad (and I mean bad) skin before I went on the pill, but I bulk bought it as there was an offer on, and it's too expensive not to carry on using.

I will probably buy Simple cleanser once this has run out.

I keep things simple now (if you'll pardon the pun) and usually manage to keep my skin nice and clear, apart from if I leave makeup on, which results in a major breakout.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/09/2019 23:28

Cleanse tone moisturise morning apply serum and night.
Give my self full facial every Sunday
Cleanse
Steam
Exfoliate
Mask
Wash face with mild simple soap to make sure mask is fully removed
Tone
Apply serum
Apply eye cream
Moisturise

Clean make up sponges and brushes at least once a week.

zxcvhjkl · 08/09/2019 23:41

AM Wash with African Black Soap (it isn't soap despite the name, its totally natural), pat dry, moisturise with Olay Total Effects 7 in 1 with spf 30.

PM Wash with African Black Soap, pat dry, wipe a cotton ball over my face that has been dipped in a mixture of 50% apple cider vinegar and 50% water. Leave for two minutes, rinse with freezing cold water. Moisturise with Olay Anti Wrinkle Firm and Lift Night Cream.

Twice a week I use a facial blade to gently remove the black soap (to exfoliate), apply the ACV mix, rinse and then a Garnier Moisture Bomb sheet mask before moisturising.

My skin is the clearest it's been since my pre teen years. I'm in my late 30s. It is also the least amount of money I've spent on skin care. It isn't conventional, took alot of trial and error but works for me.

commanderdalgleish · 09/09/2019 03:32

I am late (v late!) thirties and found my skin couldn't tolerate three or four moisturisers and serums per night.

I wash in the morning with no 7 hydrating gel cleanser. Then polaar vitamin c cream (Birchbox sample) and Nivea spf 25 anti pollution moisturiser thing before make up.

In the evening I use gel cleanser again to get make up off then alpha h liquid gold OR tan luxe glow serum (has a bit of fake tan.) alternate them. I should probably moisturise st night too but as I said a bit much for my skin.

I only sleep four hours a night (breastfeeding baby) Woild love to say I look all glowy but I look like shit. So maybe ignore my advice!

WilburIsSomePig · 09/09/2019 06:12

Fasting for a minimum of 18 hours a day to promote autophagy helps aswell by repairing and renewing skin cells.

This doesn't sound like a healthy plan to me at all. Just eat well.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 09/09/2019 07:37

There is evidence to support the fasting idea, but it’s not something to do every day, just now and then. And the pure water things is twaddle - the idea of your body struggling to ‘find’ water in tea/squash etc is nonsense.

WilburIsSomePig · 09/09/2019 08:00

@IsletsOfLangerhans have you a link to this evidence? I'm genuinely interested - it sounds ludicrous to me but I'd be really interested to read anything that might sort out my dodgy skin!

firstimemamma · 09/09/2019 08:04

I'm 29 and use soap and water.

Use coconut oil as a night cream and a bit of factor 50 sun cream mixed in with my foundation in the morning.

Face mask once a week. Sometimes exfoliate once a week too.

That's it! Plastic-free apart from the sun cream and make-up.

chesterfuckingdraws · 09/09/2019 08:13

Morning:
Cleanse: either soap and glory "peaches and
clean" or Paula's choice foaming cleanser
Tone: nip and fab vitamin c
Serum: Superdrug pure or nip and fab "dragons blood
Moisturiser: dr jart gel cream

Night:
Cleanse 1: peaches and clean
Cleanse 2: drunk elephant or eve lom balm cleanser
Tone: ole henriksen glycolic or Paula's choice salicylic or a retinol serum either inkey list or medik8 if I use retinol a skip the serum/oil stages.
Serum: Superdrug pure
Moisturiser: dr jart get cream
Oil: Marilu oil, cbd oil, body shop oils of life whichever comes to hand.

And regular botox Grin

I noticed the biggest difference in my skin when I started using acids in a more regular basis.

I drink a lot of water and a lot of coffee and Diet Coke too and have a balanced, fairly healthy diet too.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 09/09/2019 08:44

@firstimemamma A Japanese researcher won the Nobel prize for medicine for the work he did linking fasting and autophagy (cell renewal). I’m not sure there is strong evidence to support the skin side of things as yet, but the skin has a very high cell turnover, so you would imagine fasting could possibly help. It’s worth a try, as the other health benefits to the immune system etc are supposed to be good. It’s not the same as 5:2 fasting - more about 16 hour fasts a couple of times a week. I’d do some research into it yourself first of course..

IsletsOfLangerhans · 09/09/2019 08:46

Sorry - tagged wrong person! It was supposed to be @WilburIsSomePig

MorrisZapp · 09/09/2019 08:52

Morning: wash in shower with Simple face wash.
Apply Avene hydrating serum
Apply Embryolisse concentrated moisturiser (it's literally the only thing rich enough for my very dry skin)

Evening: nothing

Occasionally, on makeup days: dermalogica pre cleanse balm and hot water. It's oddly named, its a full on cleanse. Then same moisturisers as above.
