Your skincare routine please?

Would really appreciate knowing your daily/weekly skin care routine please. Before DC I used to take care of my skin a lot better. Now without make up it looks dreadful. Partly I suspect because I don't drink enough water and often forget to wash my make up off at night Blush.
Don't have a massive budget so would also appreciate any bargain beauty finds you know of.
At the minute I literally use Simple face wash then a cheap Nivea moisturiser and when I remember a face sunscreen.
I was looking at the body shop range particularly at the oils. Has anyone tried them? I'm now in my mid 30s so need to start thinking about anti ageing. But they were quite expensive so didn't want to waste £££.

I used to have pretty crappy skin, think new spot every day.I now seem to have found the answer - I use face wash from the Avon skin clear range, simple toner then superdrug spf moisturiser then in the evening miscellar water with superdrug night cream. Face pack once a week, I rarely get spots now.

Wehttam · 09/09/2019 09:38

Definitely recommend using the Konjac sponge with your face wash, I don’t know how it works but it’s magical, the texture and clarity of your skin after a few uses is madness. I get mine from TKMaxx or Homesense usually 3 or 4 quid last 6 weeks.

I forgot to add in as well I have 500ml of lemon water first thing, just squeeze half a lemon and drink. Google it for those about to call it twaddle or nonsense too 🙄😉

Soap, water, towel. Occasional moisturiser if I’ve got a bit sunburned.
I’m in my sixties and my skin is fine. Probably due to never smoking, never clogging my pores with make up or skin potions, always eating a healthy diet, and keeping well hydrated!

moonpiggle · 09/09/2019 09:53

Oh and Aldi Lacura caviar cream for day and night. Love it.

I’m in my early twenties, and this routine I have been doing for a few years. It really helped especially during pregnancy and after birth when my skin was rather dull.

AM- Wash face with any cleanser, I use Neutrogena but any cleanser that’s not harsh on your skin. Wash with warm water, then proceed to rinse with cold water as it closes your pores so that no dirt can get into them. Pat face dry. Spray toner on a cotton pad and gently spread across your face. (Some good ones include, Mario Badescu, The Ordinary, Ziaja).
Next is the eye cream, always use your ring finger to pat the cream gently around your eye area as it is very sensitive.
After that, use your favourite moisturiser on the rest of the face. Always make sure you pick the right moisturiser for your skin type.

PM- If you wear makeup, remove using a cleansing milk and cotton pad or makeup removing wipes. I use the Nivea milk cleanser. Make sure you remove all makeup thoroughly.
If you have a micro-needling roller, it’s best to use in the evening and then apply your anti ageing products. The needles, slightly open your pores up, allowing for your skin to absorb the product deeper. Do that 3 nights a week.

Once a month, I like to use a special razor to shave my face. It isn’t for everyone, especially for those with sensitive skin, however it’s great for those who wear makeup as it makes the foundation appear smoother because the fuzziness isn’t there.
There are a lot of tutorials to show exactly how to do it. My favourite is by Carli Bybel.

  • the common saying that “the hair on your face will grow back thicker” is a MYTH -

Am - just wash with water in the shower, then use oil of olay beauty fluid moisturiser. Make up is bb cream, powder & mascara.
PM - use a bamboo cloth just with water to remove make up. Then use clinique 3 step programme, wash off cleanser, toner, then use aveeno moisturiser as have run out of clinique and can't justify price atm.
Twice a week I exfoliate. I try to drink lots of water, and if I remember I have a cup of warm water with lemon first thing in the morning.

I recently started using tropics. I love the cleaner, the smell makes me think I’m at the spa, you wash it off with a bamboo facecloth which feels lovely. Then spray on toner. And moisturiser. In the evening I use their super greens as well for extra moisturising.

AudTheDeepMinded · 09/09/2019 13:06

I rarely wear make-up, if I do it's usually just for a couple of hours and I removed it when I get home. I wash my face every other day with Boots botanicals Albright face scrub thingy. I always use body shop vitamin e face cream. Every other day I rinse it with water. Occasionally I'll use an exfoliating wash cloth thing. I usually use a suncream in the summer, but sometimes forget. I'm very low maintenance!

AudTheDeepMinded · 09/09/2019 13:07

The body shop quite often do a buy 2 get a third free offer, which is when I stock up. There are also sometimes money off vouchers in our local paper. It's a chunk of money at once but cheaper in the long run. I love the vitamin e cream.

theneverendinglaundry · 09/09/2019 13:32

I'm not convinced that any of the high end products are worth it.

I wash my face with Nip + Fab glycolic cleanser, it's the only product I'm loyal to. I find that it does really brighten up my skin.

I then use eye cream, and day/night cream. Whatever is on offer, I don't like to spend more than £20 on the lot. I always make sure my day cream has SPF.

luanmapo · 09/09/2019 13:44

I love using Tropics range.
My skin has never felt and looked so good.

Lamentations · 09/09/2019 13:53

Basics:

Cleanse your face properly with a cream cleanser and a warm flannel at the end of EVERY day. Twice. Superdrug vitamin E hot cloth cleanser is great and inexpensive.

Use an acid toner to exfoliate. Once every couple of days. A glycolic based one will work well for most people. Nip and Fab do pads or use something like Pixi Glow tonic (Aldi do a cheap rip-off version I believe).

A hydrating serum to plump up your skin. Superdrug famously has an amazing one for about £3. Might be called Simply Pure or something similar.

A good SPF all year round. A moisturiser containing at least SPF 25 is fine so long as you put a decent amount on. I like the Cerave one from Boots, which is about £12. I'd use whatever you like the feel of at night, a cream or oil.

That's the real basics but if you follow that you should see a difference in your skin pretty soon.

And I always recommend having a look at Caroline Hirons' website for excellent advice on all things skincare from the basics onwards. She's never failed me.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 09/09/2019 14:03

@Wehttam if you can explain the biology behind drinking pure water so the body finds the water more easily, I’d be more than happy to retract my twaddle and nonsense comment 😃

Ronsters · 09/09/2019 14:47

My "regime" is pretty basic.
Morning, I wash my face in the shower, using shower gel.
Use Olay moisturiser and make up, not heavy.
Evening, remove make up/cleanes with a wipe, cheap ones from Home Bargains.
I used to spend more time and used nicer products, but I've become convinced it's a waste of money.
My skin looks pretty good, I do stay out of the sun though and always use a moisturiser with a sun screen.
I think a healthy diet can help with how your skin looks but I don't believe the water thing either.

Namaste6 · 09/09/2019 15:47

AM -

  • wash face with Philosophy Purity + Clarisonic Mia
  • Olay luminous Serum
  • Olay Luminous Brightening Day Cream, spf 20
  • Olay CC cream and concealer

PM -

  • wash face with Philosophy Purity + Clarisonic Mia
  • The Ordinary - Buffet Serum
  • Olay Regenerist 3 Point Night Cream

3 times a week I use Apha H Rose Liquid Gold as an acid toner at night and twice a week use Retriderm Retinol 1% before the Serum stage.

Namaste6 · 09/09/2019 15:50

Should add that the Retriderm and Alpha H are not used on the same nights!!

And I drink a lot of water through the day. Hat on for very sunny days etc. Common sense.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 09/09/2019 15:54

My skin's great, and I look ten years younger than I really am (38).

All I do is use a face wash (or similar) in the shower every morning, and that's it. No moisturiser, no makeup, and I don't do anything (not even wash) in the evening.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/09/2019 16:14

Sorry to be catty but It’s very easy to make out you’re stunning on an anonymous website, isn’t it. @timeihadanamechange.

@Awwlookatmybabyspider - I'm far from stunning, but my skin is in great condition. But I realise I could be covered in acne and you wouldn't know, so sorry.

Proseccoagain · 09/09/2019 20:48

Don't have a night routine at all.
Morning, wash face in shower with Wilko(!) gentle exfoliating scrub; then Sainsbury's gentle toner, Avon oil, then an Avon face cream (not one of the expensive ones).

TimeIhadanamechange I don't disbelieve you at all but I wonder if you have good skin despite washing your face with shower gel. Some people just have good genes. I think I look fairly decent for my age too, which is also likely to be genetic but I've also really seen a big difference since I started properly looking after my face. I almost never get spots now and my skin is far smoother and more even toned now in my forties than it was in my thirties and even twenties (not saying I look that young of course but my skin is better).
