Best Decaf Teabags?

swissmilk · 08/09/2019 13:41

I'm on decaf tea, tried a few to find nice ones, currently in Yorkshire Tea Decaf (gross).
Anyone recommend decaf teabags? I want an everyday tea, so not earl grey etc.
I don't like strong/brewed/builder tea, but I do want FLAVOUR!
Am willing to spend £££ for good stuff, but must be in bags.

The Sainsbury's ones in a blue box, recommended by the previous poster, are the best I've tried.

Bluebell9 · 08/09/2019 16:32

I use twinings everyday decaf.

I've not tried that many but tetley decaf are awful.

LoopyGremlin · 08/09/2019 16:33

I use Aldi but it’s the Scottish blend. Don’t know if you can get them out with Scotland?

I think decaf comes down to personal taste much more than ordinary tea ....caffeinated I love twinnings the best but the favourite decaf in our house is tetley. I just threw a box of the Tesco decaf in the bin, it was vile

drumlit · 08/09/2019 16:44

tetleys is rank. another vote for aldis own brand

Disneydarlings · 08/09/2019 16:46

Aldi here too. Took a while to get use to.

blahblahblahblahhh · 08/09/2019 17:06

Also depends if you're bothered about the decaf method they use?

Saisong · 08/09/2019 17:13

We drink the Sainsbo's own brand. Used to drink Clipper, but they are sooo expensive compared to the Sainsbo's

HoppyHop · 08/09/2019 17:18

Aldi or Waitrose own brand think they are both fair trade too.

Groovee · 08/09/2019 17:20

Tetley or twinnings decaf is my usuals.

swissmilk · 08/09/2019 17:22

I'm in Aldi tomorrow so I'll start there I think

Yorkshire or of tips for me. Asda is horrible

Shamjam · 08/09/2019 17:55

After trying a good few that were really awful I can confirm that Barry’s Decaf Teabags from Cork are really excellent - in a cup or in a pot. You can get them on Amazon and they are pricey but honestly they are so so good.

Barry's Tea Decaf 80 count www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BK80U60/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JgtDDbD5GFXWD?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I agree with Jubba

Sainsburys decaf are lovely

miaCara · 08/09/2019 18:16

I mainly have Co-op decaf but will have either Lidl or Sainsburys own.
The problem with decaf tea is that occasionally there is a rogue packet which puts you off. The balance has to be there and if the tea is old it loses a lot of flavour. This seems to have been the problem with own brand teas Ive found. Co-op seems to be the best in terms of consistency.
Im glad others have found yorkshire tea decaf is not very nice. Ive always been put off by the price and I would be very unhappy to spend double my usual price at least and end up with rubbish.

cultkid · 08/09/2019 18:17

Marks and Spencer are brilliant

HunterAngel · 08/09/2019 18:18

I tried Red Bush and it was vile. Tesco own brand wasn’t terrible but the best was PG Tips

CatsForLife · 08/09/2019 18:28

Decaf tea expert here.
Worst - Aldi and Tesco.
Best - in first place it’s PG Tips. Second goes to Sainsbury’s own label in the blue box. The Waitrose ones and Tetley are ok if you’re pushed. Twinings, again, it’s ok but needs to brew for ages to get flavour.
Twinings also do a decent decaf Earl Grey if that’s your thing.

Owlish · 08/09/2019 18:40

Agree with PPs about Tetley. Unless you like the flavour of slightly dusty hot water Hmm

Wiltshirelass2019 · 08/09/2019 18:41

Ocado’s own brand are great

Gamorasgran · 08/09/2019 19:08

I like m&s ones, especially the earl grey

NotSoFlatStanley · 08/09/2019 19:15

PG Tips followed by Sainsbury’s for me too!

Megsheeran · 08/09/2019 19:28

Asda own brand for me but when I am feeling flush Ringtons is lovely, you can only buy it online though. I agree Yorkshire Tea de caf is not nice.

billsnewhat · 08/09/2019 19:32

I once tried the PG tips decaf and found they had a really wierd perfumy taste. I usually now have Tesco, Lidl or Waitrose own brand. They all taste similar and more like normal tea in my opinion.

Rosere · 08/09/2019 19:34

Thompsons. It's unreal. I'm a massive tea drinker and I've started drinking more of this than any other. I'll even send you a packet if you're in the UK 👍
