What do you do on the weekends with the kids?

This weekend DS (5) has:
Cycling club
A party organised by DH's hockey crowd
Playing
Reading for school
Ski lesson.
Obviously the party is a one-off. We try to have a play outside together before/after one sport.

RHTawneyonabus · 08/09/2019 13:10

So far this weekend
Local church fete
Friends BBQ
DH and DS2 have gone on a bike ride.
Garden/Pet chores
DIY - DS1 has been helping DH mix concrete.
Would like to get out for a walk this afternoon if possible.

ohmysoul · 08/09/2019 13:14

So far with DD who is almost 2:
Dance class yesterday morning follo by her nap. Played with her toys and lots of dry pasta in the afternoon. Bit of TV after dinner and then bed.
Today we went to church this morning, then she had her nap and we're off to a national trust place in a minute.

Jayjaybirdy · 08/09/2019 13:20

DS and DD aged 5

Yesterday: Skatepark, berry picking, Monopoly, baking (banana bread) chores

Today: Park with DH to skate, scoot and play football. We continued the Monopoly game this morning and did homework. There’s some more reading homework to do when they get in. They’ll be eating lunch at the park right now. Dinner, reading and baths when they are in.

AvengerDanvers95 · 08/09/2019 13:22

DD5, DS2. Yesterday, DD had gymnastics, then a fire station open day, then Tesco. Today, played Lego, screen time, made cakes, tried and failed to get DS to nap. Later a bike ride and a full works bath - hair, nails etc.

CalamityJune · 08/09/2019 13:26

2yo

Visited in laws yesterday morning, then nap followed by park in the afternoon.

More visiting today including brunch and nap time now. Not sure what we will do this afternoon. Maybe just playing in the garden.

Crunchymum · 08/09/2019 13:26

This time of year I tend not to do too much with mine (6 and 4, just gone into Y2 and reception). I find going back to school really tires them out and they need a rest [they both do a few after school clubs]

Yesterday we had a day in, today was swimming, park and shopping.

Unless the weather is absolutely atrocious I do try to make sure we get out for some fresh air (scoot / bike ride / kick about) each day, but mine were so tired after the first week back, a PJ day was in order this weekend.

We have the usual rounds of parties etc.. and sometimes we decide to do things on a whim (local farm / woods) depending on how weather is.

DP takes them swimming Saturday morning depending on his work schedule but he is away for a while now.

I don't believe kids need to be occupied for every moment of the day and activities can all add up. That said our summer schedule is a lot more active.

LillithsFamiliar · 08/09/2019 13:27

DS is 10.

Yesterday: acting class. Visited gran and aunty. Played with lego. Watched a musical on TV. Read.

Today: read; played with LEGO; book store; homework; baking; Church.Family movie night.

Onatreebyariver · 08/09/2019 13:29

Music lesson, sailing lesson, hockey club, swimming, playing outside, board games, reading for school, 30 mins school homework. Trip to Waitrose 😁

2 kids primary age. We don’t do screen time unless emergency Grin

HeyMicky · 08/09/2019 13:29

DDs aged 4 and 6.

Saturday is ballet for both, then I do the weekly shop with DD2 whole DD1 has tap. Yesterday we did some batch cooking when we came home, then lunch, an hour's quiet time then the village fete.

Sundays they both have swimming plus DD1 has netball. Little nap after lunch, after all the activity. Today we are doing some gardening and then watching a film.

Afternoons also could be: bike ride, park, playdate, walk down the canal to the pub, walk across the fields or through the woods, visit grandparents, baking, or any kind of play at home. Nothing ground breaking but we try to get outside one of the days at least.

SallyWD · 08/09/2019 13:30

We always go out. We live between 2 big parks so spend a lot of tome there cycling, playing football, tennis etc. If it's rainy we'll go to a kid friendly museum (lots around here) . We often have days out - in to the countryside for a walk, national trust houses etc. It's very rare for us to have a day in. We always end up frazzled and stressed if we do.

LifeOfBox · 08/09/2019 13:30

How old? 13 year old here, family lunch and a film yesterday. Waiting for her to get ready to walk into town and possibly to our local NT place, a walk by the river or a game of tennis later on.

I agree with crunchymum personally. Other than getting out for some fresh air our weekends have always been fairly unstructured. I prefer to add clubs and activities to weeknights where possible.

SimonJT · 08/09/2019 13:35

Saturday morning my son does rugby tots, so while he is doing that I tend to either go on a run onsite or use the onsite gym. We go to the park on the way home, I have a shower and then we head out for lunch.

I normally spend Saturday evening with friends so MiniSJT comes along.

Sunday morning we have swimming lessons, I don’t have to be in the pool anymore so I go to the gym during his lesson, unless he is up for a badge and then I sit and watch. After that Sunday is free time, today we have been to the park to play football, now we’re back home and he is doing some colouring in.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 08/09/2019 13:36

Thanks all. I like to hear what others do as I’m feeling a bit guilty at the moment that I’m not doing enough.

Got dts who are 3 in a couple months. Yesterday we went for a long dog walk and picnic late morning / lunchtime and chilled in the afternoon loafing about in the garden after they had a nap, watched a film ( despicable me) with tea then it was bed time. Sunday mornings we all ( dp and dts and I) go swimming ( only started regularly a couple weeks ago) and have lunch on way home now everyone is napping while I piddle about on phone in bed and when they wake we will take dog for a walk to my parents house nearby whilst dp stays home and cooks dinner.

TinyChipolata · 08/09/2019 14:03

In no particular order, this weekend we have done

Berry picking and picnic
Brunch at local patisserie
Visited artisan market
Visited grandparents
Gardening
Elsest did homework and is tinkering with science kit.

I have to work sometimes on a Saturday, and we are busy during the week, so weekends are often a bit lazy and unstructured, but the rule is we have to get out for at least one family walk- we live right by the woods and the beach so not hard- and at least once a month we do a "big" day out to the farm/museum etc

Youngandfree · 08/09/2019 14:10

Yesterday we went to eldest team sport practice and then home for lunch, then they spent the after With gp’s. Today we did cinema and are currently at soft play with friends. Might go for a walk on the beach later before bed.

ChampagneCommunist · 08/09/2019 14:15

Putting on Bad Mother hat here: they've played Roblox and watched YouTube.

After a lot of shouting (on my part) some tidying of bedrooms took place

Bluewavescrashing · 08/09/2019 14:16

Slow mornings with lots of TV and snacky breakfast. Gymnastics club, piano lesson, rugby training. Garden time, park, maybe a pub lunch. Parties occasionally or visiting family. A nice walk or trip to the beach or zoo. Family film.

twinkledag · 08/09/2019 15:02

Yesterday mil came to visit. They played, we had lunch then went to the shops. Came home and DH and DC went to the park on scooter. Came back, watched TV, built Lego and bed.

Today, got up and watched dvd, cafe for brunch, came back watched another dvd and now playing in the garden.

DS is 5 and this isn't a normal weekend. I'm in the midst of IVF and exhausted so have spent most of the weekend in bed.

DelurkingAJ · 08/09/2019 15:09

DSs are 6 and 3. Saturday morning - town for dentist, “coffee and cake”, shoe size checking. Back for lunch then Lego and chores (help me to strip their beds) until DH home from work at tea time. DS2 and I went blackberrying and DS1 watched cricket with DH.

Today a very lazy day so far. Late lunch and DH and DS1 are about to go to the garden centre to get the last bits for DS1’s holiday model.

We aim to get out every day or we all go stir crazy. The worse they are the more I enforce going for walks (last Saturday we did two because I was so grumpy with their constant niggling at each other!). But every weekend’s different.

Yesterday visited family and we went for lunch in wagamama. Shopping for kids winter coats.

Today been mostly chores, eldest done homework. Husband taking youngest to shop to get food for a roast dinner.

Next weekend we will take the kids to the zoo on Saturday and most likely go for pub grub Sunday

wichitalinemanswoman · 08/09/2019 15:21

My three just do what they want which is screen time, pizza, snacks, popping into town, seeing friends, youngest plays with toys too but we don't do any fixed clubs on a weekend. They're all at the age where they want us to leave them alone which is fine by me. They'd go nuts if we suggested a family walk out Grin

LifeOfBox · 08/09/2019 16:42

🏆🏆 to StealthPussy 😂.

I don't think you can compare really OP. I went on holiday with a friend who had to do something, at least one big thing, sometimes two, every day whereas DD and I enjoyed a local walk, tea room in the village or pub lunch and an afternoon of reading every other day because we didn't want the same pace of doing stuff.

Children and adults both similar ages and similar interests, just different people.

I always like to get out for some fresh air and drag DD with me, on our walk just now (didn't want to go in a teenage way) she said you make it really hard to be grumpy mum, ha, a small victory!
