What do you buy rich people as a wedding gift?

Friend is getting married. Has an established home (or 5!) and enough cash to buy anything they desire. They have no children but adore their dogs. I don't have quite so much money and am clueless of what to buy other than something like this along with something else (but don't know what!), www.etsy.com/uk/listing/644106115/dog-lover-pebble-art-gift-perfect?ref=reviews

Maybe buy them an experience? Tickets to something?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 04/09/2019 20:45

A cheese making course?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 04/09/2019 20:45

Something fun that's not really about the cost iyswim?

Have they asked for presents? Is there a list you can contribute towards? Or maybe they will ask for no gifts - in which case a bottle of fizz and some chocolates to enjoy at their leisure are a sweet gesture.

PegasusReturns · 04/09/2019 20:52

Im told I'm hard to buy for, for similar reasons.

Things I have loved receiving:

  • lovely bottle of wine e.g. something that might be good on their ten year anniversary
  • vintage china
  • diptyque candles
  • long stem matches
  • beautiful plant pots
  • copies of other people's favourite books.
  • any cookery book
  • silver picture frames

Just because I have money doesn't mean I don't realise that spending £8 or a box of matches or £80 on silver picture frames is frivolous and it's lovely when people do that on my behalf.

PegasusReturns · 04/09/2019 20:52

Oh and I would love a cheese making course Grin

grape scissors

Eslteacher06 · 04/09/2019 20:56

If a good friend...what about a memory book with lots of pictures of possibly the couple if you have them? Her social media should be full of them?

Eslteacher06 · 04/09/2019 20:56

Or the dogs 🤣😂

KronksSpinachPuffs · 04/09/2019 20:56

I think a nice branded bottle of champagne is nice. Like Laurent perrier or veuve clicquot.

Or a bottle of their favourite spirit eg gin.

Atalune · 04/09/2019 20:56

That thing from Etsy might not be their taste.

What about a good book of local walks/pubs around your area or a neighbouring county?

A charity donation in their name?

Can’t really go wrong with a lovely bottle of Port or Champagne.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/09/2019 20:57

I would make something yourself for the dogs.
Google diy dog presents
here’s some ideas
Make a little hamper with home made dog biscuits; paw balm, a dog T-shirt made from a repurposed babygro.

I think something memorable and thoughtful would be appreciated

RaininSummer · 04/09/2019 20:57

A dedicated to them tree. I think there are a few companies doing this.

Collectorofcookbooks · 04/09/2019 21:15

A David Austin rose with a meaningful name
Wine to save for a significant date
Initialled Scrabble mugs
A trip on the zip wire in Wales
Tickets to The Wave if they like surfing
A food tour of London / Paris / their favourite European city
A bundle of cookbooks
A board game
A map to scrape off where they’ve travelled to

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 04/09/2019 21:21

RaininSummer's idea is a lovely one.

I'm sure anyone would appreciate that
(and as dog owners, and thus dog walkers, even more so).

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 05/09/2019 20:30

Tickets to a play / concert
A workshop they can do together - glass making / Thai cooking?
A surf lesson?

breaconoptimist · 05/09/2019 20:34

wait for the wedding list - q possible they'll ask for no gifts or charity donations. Don't waste your money until you are sure!

Perch · 05/09/2019 20:36

A bottle of really really good olive oil

sorrythisusernameistaken · 05/09/2019 20:42

Etsy do hand drawn pictures of the venue of the wedding- think it's a lovely thoughtful thing to do! I don't like the picture in your link tho really sorry!

Lazysundays18 · 05/09/2019 21:04

@sorrythisusernameistaken our friends bought us the hand drawn picture of our wedding venue. We love it!

Cravingcake · 05/09/2019 21:33

We received a few lovely gifts (we aren’t rich or extremely well off but do live comfortably). We didn’t ask for gifts and it was mostly friends who we invited to our wedding.

We received a couple of nice branded bottles of champagne which we had one at Christmas.

We had a Christmas decoration in a heart shape with Mr & Mrs on it. Love getting this out at Christmas time, happy memories.

PalmersGreen · 05/09/2019 21:56

Something vintage or antique. A beautiful bowl or vase or picture. Those sort of things are one offs and it doesn’t matter what they cost, you spent the time trying to find them something gorgeous that will suit their home.

stucknoue · 05/09/2019 21:59

I was given a really good bottle of balsamic vinegar recently, not expensive really (I looked up the cost, £25) but far more than you normally pay, it was delicious!

CherryPavlova · 05/09/2019 22:01

Do they not have a list?
