Central Manchester - How Much!!!

I am either spectacularly out of touch, or tight-fisted, or both….

Where can we possibly stay for one night in fairly central Manchester, that isn’t going to cost over a hundred quid!

We are only a 30 minute drive away but really want to indulge in some day-drinking and nobody wants to drive, or have to fanny about catching the last train home. Looking somewhat unlikely though as even bloody Travelodge want over £120 for a room! Any ideas from the collective wisdom of the MN hive mind??!! Grin Grin

There’s an easy hotel and a motel one that are usually less
The Motel one is better and in a better area

aneres · 02/09/2019 13:53

Depending how late you want to hood I'd look on lastminute.com and try and get a late deal.

MissCharleyP · 02/09/2019 14:02

Metrolink runs till about 1 am if you’re in an area served by trams? Otherwise a taxi?

ShutItMorrissey · 02/09/2019 14:04

I've just spent well under £100 for three nights at the Premier Inn on Irwell Street. Was booked well in advance though. Spinning fields, so really central.

ShutItMorrissey · 02/09/2019 14:04

Spinningfields even!

Drabarni · 02/09/2019 14:06

Stay Inn. just outside city centre, 5 min walk from Arena.

Drabarni · 02/09/2019 14:06

Whoops sorry. £45 a night and pleasant enough just for a kip.

NoBaggyPants · 02/09/2019 14:10

When are you looking at? If there's football on or another big event that will explain the high prices.

NoBaggyPants · 02/09/2019 14:13

The Stay Inn varies in price according to date. This weekend it's £140!

And Last Minute doesn't offer last minute deals, it's just a normal booking site, despite it's name.

womaninthedark · 02/09/2019 14:15

Roomzzz Manchester City, Princess Street from £68.
Stayed at their Corn Exchange Manchester place two nights last week and it was really comfortable and convenient. About £100.

TokyoSushi · 02/09/2019 14:17

Motel One is nice and often less than £100

OwnerofanAngryCat · 02/09/2019 14:30

I've just checked Manchester YHA. £159 for a room for one night! bed in a shared dorm £35 each!

I think I'd end up sleeping at the bus station.

Rock4please · 02/09/2019 14:32

Just get a taxi.

HauntedPinecone · 02/09/2019 14:35

We are looking at next Saturday, 14th.

A taxi would cost us a fortune and we are on a tight budget!

I think we may end up sleeping at the bus station Grin

Thanks for the suggestions guys, going to have a look and see what I can find.

NoBaggyPants · 02/09/2019 14:41

Surely the taxi will be less than a hotel?

NoBaggyPants · 02/09/2019 14:44

HotelsComparison brings up a few under £100, but they're not central and they're not particularly pleasant.

jay55 · 02/09/2019 14:45

Are students moving in that weekend? Might account for lack of cheap rooms.

millymae · 02/09/2019 14:47

I've just looked at the travel lodge in Sale which is often quite cheap and even that is expensive - I assume there is football

Benes · 02/09/2019 14:48

Get an Uber home? I live 35 mins from Manchester and an Uber cost me £23 this weekend. It's usually under £30 even at the busiest times.

SamBeckett · 02/09/2019 15:55

I havent checked the prices for the date you want but Hotel Football can be surprising cheap as long as there is no football / cricket/ concerts on

HauntedPinecone · 02/09/2019 16:03

£23 Benes Shock that's ridiculously cheap! I expected it to cost far more than that. Hmm, maybe a taxi might solve the problem then!

OP posts:
Benes · 02/09/2019 16:10

Taxis to my area from Manchester used to be really expensive but Uber has solved that problem! Maybe also try booking a local(to you) firm if you know what time you want picking up....we've done that before and it's generally under £30. Just don't get a black cab as that'll be closer to £70!

Alwaysgrey · 02/09/2019 16:21

What about this?

Central Manchester - How Much!!!
HauntedPinecone · 02/09/2019 16:26

I think I have just persuaded my husband that we are getting a taxi home, which is good because I do love my own bed!

Thanks everyone, very helpful Grin

Sat 14th is "moving in day" for students at Manchester & Manchester Metropolitan. All the hotels will be full of anxious parents not wanting to abandon thrir offspring just-in-case. That's why the prices are so high.
