In what year will there be pictures of little Darren and Joanne skipping through fields in a Sunday supplement article?

OP posts:

I also know a 7 year old called Christina. I always think of that as a 70s/80s name.

My mum is a Christina, born in the 1940s. I'm late 1970s and didn't know any growing up. I love the name (biased) but to me Christine with an e sounds incredibly dated!

My neighbours are Darren and Joanne! Born 1960s and early 70s I think.

areyoutheredenise · 31/08/2019 10:32

Christine whatshername and frank lampard have a baby daughter called Patricia. It's after his mum but you don't hear that name very often these days.
DS who is 12 has a David and a Eric in his class.

Isleepinahedgefund · 31/08/2019 11:32

Paula is a really 70s name that hasn't come back yet. I know a baby Derek - makes me chuckle when I think of him!

topcat2014 · 31/08/2019 11:38

My parents other choice for my first name was Simon, which I think would have been a cooler alter ego.

Not sure if that name is coming back soon either.

topcat2014 · 31/08/2019 11:38

I am a Beaver leader, and we have a little Arthur in the mix.

emilybrontescorsett · 31/08/2019 11:41

I think Emma is a classic name.

MarcieElizabeth · 31/08/2019 11:43

I’ve always thought Darren was a great sounding name. As is Greg, Craig, Keith and all of the 70s boys names.

Celebelly · 31/08/2019 11:44

My 6mo DD is an Emma! I think it's a fairly classic and timeless name although was more popular in the 80s I think. I was at school with a few. We've yet to meet another baby Emma at baby classes (but a couple of the mums are called Emma!).

Has Sheila been mentioned?

Proseccoagain · 31/08/2019 14:46

My DGD is Norah, named after the singer Norah Jones. And I taught a 9 yr old Donald about 20 years ago.

AguerosAngel · 31/08/2019 20:05

I’m a Joanne, but the only person who calls me Joanne is my DF and my IL’s.

Everyone else calls me Jo, I like my name.

AdelaideK · 31/08/2019 20:15

I know a Nora, Nicola, Lisa, Melissa, Duncan, Marshall and Jeff all under 12.

I think Lisa and Melissa are nice sounding names and I love Nicole even though it's a 80's name imo.

Gamorasgran · 31/08/2019 20:34

I miss the name Nick. No Nicks in DDs primary at all. They have 5 Charlies and 4 Harrys in their class though.

Dd2 was very almost Emma. I view it as a 'Jane Austen' name in my head, ie classic and pretty universal and not biblical (which was dhs criteria). Both dds have names which fall into this category

I know a 50 year old kylie and my mum is bemused by the popularity of Edith which was my grandmas name and she hated.

Elodie2019 · 31/08/2019 20:41

I have a friend Joanna - I like the name. She is known by close friends/family as Jo-Jo and by everyone else as Jo.
I don't like the name Joanne for some reason.

SabineSchmetterling · 31/08/2019 20:43

I teach in a girls’ secondary.
We have a few each of Joanne, Sharon and Patricia. Tracey is actually an incredibly popular name for girls and women aged 11-21 around here. In certain demographics it just doesn’t have the same age connotations. It’s not unusual for us to have more than one Tracey in a class of 13 year olds.

4cats2kids · 31/08/2019 20:51

I had an Arthur ten years ago. A fairly rare baby name then. It’s now in the top ten. I somehow managed to be both old fashioned and ahead of my time at the same time!

jmh740 · 31/08/2019 21:23

My name is Joanne I was born in the 70s there was at least 4 Joanne's in my year at school. DHS is a Kevin I work in a primary school we have a Darren at least 1 Emma, Lee quite a few Charlie and Freddie's

Delatron · 31/08/2019 21:25

Nick is a great name. That needs a revival.

alltoomuchrightnow · 01/09/2019 02:50

I know a teenage Desmond
Also a Maureen in her early 40s.. not exactly young but way too young to be a Maureen! (Maureens are usually 70+)!

alltoomuchrightnow · 01/09/2019 02:50

and a Kathleen in her 20s.. again seems quite an older lady name to me (ex MIL is a Kathleen)

ThighThighOfthigh · 01/09/2019 03:36

I love the name Leanne (upthread) and Leigh-Anne also Lee. My cousins are Tracy, Mandy Jacky and their brother George. I used to think "poor George".

I know a Darren and Samantha - i like both those names.

toomuchtooold · 01/09/2019 07:42

Don't feel too bad about all the forgotten names because here in Germany where I am, they are having a whole new second wind. My kids go to school with a Lisa, a Max, Roger, theres a Jean, we know a Melanie, there's even a Damian.

HarrySnotter · 01/09/2019 07:46

There's a wee Susan living up the road from me, she's about 4 and adorable.

Claire is a name that I don't think will make a comeback, it's very clunky. (sorry if you are a Claire!).

C0untDucku1a · 01/09/2019 08:17

Darren and samantha sound simply
Magical

emilybrontescorsett · 01/09/2019 08:27

I think Amanda is due a come back.

isabellerossignol · 01/09/2019 08:38

My grandmother, who was born in 1902, hated her middle name because she thought it was old-fashioned.

Her middle name was Emma.

My mum is 85 and she said something similar, that when she was at school all the girls felt sorry for their friend Emma because she had such a 'granny' name. They all wanted fashionable names like Margaret and Joan Grin
