UK holiday - where to next?

Back from Cornwall and I've got the post-holiday blues.

So to cheer myself up, I thought I'd investigate possibilities for next year.

Any amazing places you'd recommend for a family of 4? DCs aren't little (they will both be teenagers next year Shock) and one small dog (well behaved). Self catering rather than hotel or B&B.

We like walks, sea, nice pubs, cycling, lovely views, places to visit that are dog friendly, castles & history (god, I've made myself sound about 104 but I'm middle aged now and really don't care Grin)...

Been to Cornwall (lots), Yorkshire Dales, Northumbria, Isle of Skye, and Dorset. Very happy to return or to find a new favourite....

Any gems you'd recommend?

Another vote for North Norfolk. Look at Sowerbys holiday cottages

HappyHolidays75 · 26/08/2019 23:54

Wales - Gower or Snowdonia
Lake district
Suffolk/Norfolk - more cyclable!
Actually peak district would be good for cycling - several long trails on disused railways. No sea beaches, but rivers and lakes (e.g. carsington water)

It was Brixham. A holiday park that wasn't great as rooms were small and dated whilst still being sufficient and entertainment was lacking but it was so perfectly located that I think I would recommend it with the above caveats. Beach seemed to be private but may not be. Riviera bay holiday park.

All other photos are far better but have people and pups in that will put me.

Another vote for Isle of Wight

TravellingSpoon · 27/08/2019 08:55

Isle of Mull, via Loch Lomond?.

adaline · 27/08/2019 09:09

Cumbria - the west coast has everything you're looking for and is much cheaper than staying in the National Park.

theluckiest · 27/08/2019 10:06

@thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter Perhaps Craggy Island would be an option?Grin

And yes, me too...I always had a daydream of setting up a delightful craft shop somewhere in the Scottish Highlands despite not making any crafts or having a shred of experience!!

These have given me loads of lovely places to research. Thank you everyone!!

@TravellingSpoon Mull is definitely somewhere I'd love to visit- we know Skye very well but the other Isles, not so much.

@Cabezona Ah, Brixham! That was DH's and I's first holiday together!! We took off in an old mini, went camping and got horribly sunburned! Was fantastic.

Think the kids would love it!!

And isn't it nice that there are so many wonderful, beautiful and different places to go on this relatively small island?

This was from my dog walk this morning - Cumbrian coast.

Our uk favourites are Cornwall and the Lake District.

Cwtches123 · 27/08/2019 15:26

Gower or Pembrokeshire - ideal!

blackpinkinyourarea · 27/08/2019 16:46

Not technically UK but i highly recommend Jersey. Gorgeous beaches, stunning views and plenty of breathtaking coastal walks. There's even a few castles too, plus interesting history of when jersey was occupied by Germany in WW2. Very dog and child friendly!

DailyFailAreTwats · 27/08/2019 16:51

Channel Islands or Isles of Scilly?

Jimdandy · 27/08/2019 17:21

Easy coast very dog friendly. Sheringham, Cromer and Hunstanton

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 27/08/2019 17:25

Whitby. North Yorkshire coast is glorious and Whitby is an absolute gem of a place.

Lake District is amazing

Northumberland

Peak District

They are my current favourites

ThighThighOfthigh · 27/08/2019 17:34

I went to Aberdovey in Gwynedd earlier this year, it was so beautiful.

I'm really over abroad atm and have let my passport expire for the first time ever. I don't like leaving my dogs and UK is so beautiful.

Wink

Funnily enough we went to get a quick cuppa/ice creams from a cafe that had a Craggy Island vibe to it. The cafe was a small pre-fab building in a car park next to a desolate beach in the lakes (it was chucking it down, I'm sure it's lovely on a nice day) and I looked at DH and said "This is my fuppin' spot! Fup off!" Grin

Lindormilk · 28/08/2019 21:27

Snowdonia! Its lovely here!

petrova · 28/08/2019 21:32

Another vote for the Cairngorms / just returned , gorgeous, really beautiful . Amazing walks, lots of castles, lovely villages - lots to do. Highly recommend

pieeye · 28/08/2019 22:15

Isle of Wight. It's bloody beautiful. And so underrated.

edwinbear · 28/08/2019 22:17

Jersey, amazing costal walks/cycle routes, great pubs, beaches, and two castles Smile

PiratePenguin · 28/08/2019 22:26

I'm just back from a week on Mull and can highly recommend it.Also toured the outer Hebrides last year and that was also amazing.
