The bloody bastard things don’t make ANY noise.

Camping this weekend, no cars on site so I wasn’t expecting to see one. Walked out between two lines of tents and the fucking thing was almost on top of me. Stupid woman driving it could barely see over the steering wheel and carried on driving. I jumped back out of the way and banged on the bonnet. She drove for about 10 meters before another camper stopped her and said WTF you nearly ran her over. She was completely non plussed. Any normal car I would have heard coming.

How the hell do blind people cross the road when one of these things could be on top of them ffs?!

Yeah, fuck the safety of pedestrians etc so long as you get your silence. Selfish beyond belief

I assumed as a fully grown adult you were capable of looking where you were going. I clearly assumed wrongly.

SconeofDestiny · 27/08/2019 16:27

Those posters quoting the Tufty club must regularly get themselves run over!

It's Look RIGHT, LEFT, then RIGHT again.

I assumed as a fully grown adult you would have some consideration for others. I clearly assumed wrongly.

When you switch the warning sound off, you are behaving like a selfish idiot.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 27/08/2019 16:42

So she carried on driving even after you banged on the bonnet..?

That is NUTS!

AdobeWanKenobi · 27/08/2019 16:49

Then I look forward to you bouncing off my bonnet in the near future when you cross the road without paying attention.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/08/2019 17:09

Jeez there are some utter selfish cunts on here
Hope it's not a visually impaired person bouncing off your windscreen
Not that you'd care I suspect

FermatsTheorem · 27/08/2019 17:11

Then I look forward to you bouncing off my bonnet in the near future when you cross the road without paying attention.

Good grief. I've read some cuntish things on here, but that really is out there in a league of its own.

I look forward to you being sent down for a long stretch for dangerous driving.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/08/2019 17:11

Oh and never assume sight loss happens to"other people"
If you live to a grand old age you are extremely likely to experience a drop in your central vision
Won't be so cocky crossing roads then
But hey if you are looking where you're going tough shit eh when you bounce off someone's bonnet

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/08/2019 17:12

Aren't looking

RaspberryRippleCrisps · 27/08/2019 17:13

Finfinytint Totally agree with you about silent bicycles! I've not (yet) experienced any problems with hybrid cars, but I've had several near misses with bicycles over the last few years,as I just don't hear them approaching if there is a lot of other noise gong on. I am disabled and walk rather slowly, but I ALWAYS check before stepping out in the road,or even just changing direction on the pavement (which I shouldn't have to do,but since nearly being mown down on the pavement by a cyclist about ten years ago,I learnt the hard way).

AdobeWanKenobi · 27/08/2019 17:14

Considering a hybrid is really only silent below 18mph or so I can't see anyone dying.
But hey, don't let that stop you all frothing now will you? Grin

Apparently in California they are fitted with noisemakers for this exact reason. Told by a friend so don't know how accurate that fact is!

This is not true, I live in California and drive a Tesla and it is silent

Oblomov19 · 27/08/2019 17:17

Interesting problem!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/08/2019 17:17

Yeah frothing
Try seeing how much damage a car moving at that speed can do to someone frail and elderly
Or to a guide dog
Goady fucking twat

Cyw2018 · 27/08/2019 17:20

I drive an electric car, is only a year old so has the "noise" as standard. However, I still "stealth" people fairly regularly (you should see them jump!!).

I am particularly cautious driving near cyclists and dogs, and where paths run down to meet roads. I think the noise needs to be more noticeable.

Jesaminecollins · 27/08/2019 17:25

Our Lexus doesn't make any noise and I am worried about some death person getting hit by it.

Jesaminecollins · 27/08/2019 17:40

deaf lol

Thunderpunt · 27/08/2019 17:49

My son is hearing impaired and this is his life every day. He doesn't hear mobility scooters on pavements, or bicycles on towpaths. And you can't imagine the worrying I do when he goes out on his bike and has to cycle in the road, he really has to rely on his other senses - well sight mainly. The electric cars are just another liability for him. I think they should all have some kind of in built noise/hum to alert pedestrians, but I wonder if that would constitute noise pollution so isn't viable?

Jesaminecollins · 27/08/2019 17:50

@Thunerpunt

Me too I am deaf in one ear

Jesaminecollins · 27/08/2019 17:50

sorry @Thunderpunt - I seem to having trouble with my ipad now

darkcloudsandsunnyskies · 27/08/2019 17:53

It gets worse. Have you seen a lunatic full speed on an electric bike yet.

Pedestrians don’t look other than at their phone, they just listen.

chomalungma · 27/08/2019 17:57

In the future, all cars will have sensors to detect objects in the way.

But before then, I do think that we need something. It's all very well saying that pedestrians should look out - but the onus should be on the driver of a heavy, fast moving car which is travelling silently.

Jesaminecollins · 27/08/2019 18:00

I nearly got run over by a mobility scooter - I think they should make people who use them take a driving test because they can be dangerous if being driven by someone who has never driven car before.

AssangesCat · 27/08/2019 18:09

It's amazing how many people will step out without looking properly. I cycle and people assume that because cars and buses are at a standstill they can wander at will. I'm not silent, I'm ringing my bell and calling out to them, but mostly oblivious.

BEDinhalfanhour · 27/08/2019 18:12

I laughed at your title OP.

Not because it is funny to be run over, but because the word fucking is totally justified to get your point across!

It has nearly happened to me twice Shock
Bastards.
