How much money do you have left each month

Just that really. Once I pay everything I owe every month, including a bit put aside for going out (not much though) and £50 for miscellaneous stuff, I have £384 left. It doesn't seem much to me and tbh I've been completely oblivious to it as I occasionally boost my earnings with selling stuff so my bank account goes through periods when it's quite healthy.

After bills and food around £750. A lot of it goes into jobs around the house as we’re doing it up and trying to replace furniture though! We’re not massively high earners but our mortgage isn’t ridiculous as we live in the north and bought an ex council house needing some TLC.

Greatnorthwoods · 24/08/2019 16:18

USA, we get paid fortnightly. We have $40 leftover after all bills, fuel, spending, savings, food, gifts, MOT etc

Littlechocola · 24/08/2019 16:28

Around £300 after food, fuel and bills supposedly but usually about £80 overdrawn.

I’m getting more organised and quite enjoying budgeting though so fingers crossed I’ll start seeing more at the end of each month.

Less than £0

Backtosxhool · 24/08/2019 16:41

Ppl who are in - or 0, I would highly advise getting rid of all unnecessary expenditures like sky, Netflix, other subscriptions etc. free view is more than enough tv wise.

Drabarni · 24/08/2019 16:43

I don't know as we don't work on months.
Probably not much, but it just stays in the bank until we need something.

Lulualla · 24/08/2019 16:45

@Backtosxhool

What an idiotic comment. You have absolutely no idea about anyone finances. With the state the country is in, my bet is that most of those people are already getting by on the bare minimum. But here you come with your great plan to save them all but reminded them that freeview is plenty and they are only struggling because they must be splashing out ob luxuries. Bloody hell.

Lindormilk · 24/08/2019 16:57

Sky is my only luxury @Backtosxhool. And im not a huge earner (less than £10k). So luxuries aren't on my list but i don't smoke, take drugs, but I enjoy my £4.50 bottle if wine each weekend.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 24/08/2019 17:26

After bills we have about £1800. That then goes
£400 on food
£250 on petrol
£430 ish to live on for the week.
I had to buy a new car so £450 goes on paying that off. Anything else goes to savings.

If we need more I take on another cleaning job or some adhoc ones for a while.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 24/08/2019 17:31

Best thing I did was to have two accounts. One for bills. I know what comes out each month so I leave what is needed for that.
I have another account for spending every month.

I take out the food money in cash so if the worst happens we always have money for food. Then I have savings accounts for car , my son , holiday and Xmas.

blue25 · 24/08/2019 17:41

Usually around 2.5k which we use to overpay the mortgage, save for holidays & pay extra into pensions.

haverhill · 24/08/2019 17:46

After everything except petrol, about £850.

Littlechocola · 24/08/2019 18:12

@Dontgiveamonkeys1350 two current accounts? That’s a really good idea!

randomusername · 24/08/2019 18:18

It was nothing, but as of last month with cutting back on a few luxuries, takeaways etc I'm able to save about £200. But may be less depending on whats going on that month.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 24/08/2019 18:22

@Littlechocola yup. Works well. I keep an eye on the bills account just incase. And then I shift everything over to the spending. I know exactly what I have then. I’m a bit obsessed with the whole monthly money thing. Check all accounts twice a day etc. Best thing I did was taking out the food money. That works brilliantly

DrMadelineMaxwell · 24/08/2019 20:33

After all standing orders and direct debits are paid, inc savings account(s - one to maximise the % interest my bank will pay, one standard one to dip into, one for a holiday) and what DH and I both pay into a 'joint' account, I have £1200 of my wage left.

I aim to have £1000 in my account as a buffer on the day before payday, so really I have £2200 left, but I only ever aim to touch the £1200. If it's a cheaper month I transfer more into my holiday fund.

YanTanTethera01 · 26/08/2019 15:50

Although subjective, very interesting in terms of the breadth of spending power people have. I noticed most people referred to themselves as 'we' so must be two-person households. I am on my own, so I think having nearly £400 a month left over when everything is paid for and money allocated to going out, food, car etc. isn't really that bad. If I was in a 2-person household, I guess we'd have in excess of £1500 left each month so in my opinion would be very fortunate.

This month, it will be a little over £170.00
