I don’t mean the ones that require one hook. I mean larger ones with a hook on each side. How do you know where to hammer the hook into the wall? How do you make it match up and straight?? Arghhh!

Thread string between the two hooks so that you still only need one nail in the wall?

TheFutureMrsB · 22/08/2019 21:20

Mark the hooks on the back with lipstick or something similar and press against the wall with a spirit level on top to make sure it's straight and you should have marks left from the lipstick to show where to put the nails/screws.

Get to amazon and type "command strips" into the search bar. Use the ones for large pictures. Easy.
You Are Welcome 🥳🥳

Summersunshine2 · 22/08/2019 21:22

Ha ha I can't even seem to be able to do one hook ones!

HelloMrDinosaur · 22/08/2019 21:22

I tried those sticky strip things. Large picture fell off the wall and onto the laminate floor at 3am. To say one shat oneself would be an understatement.

Yes, you just attach cord to each hook, with a bit of slack in it, and hang from the centre.

Fairylea · 22/08/2019 21:27

Ignore the hooks completely, bang a nail in the wall and hang it from the top of the frame...!

Lumene · 22/08/2019 21:29

Like Mummy Pig does and not like Daddy Pig does.

MissYeti · 22/08/2019 21:32

Masking tape across the back of the picture. Mark where the fixings are then stick masking tape to wall. Make sure it's level, put in your nails or whatever then hang!

HelloMrDinosaur · 22/08/2019 21:33

I’m quite honestly not sure what daddy pig did wrong?

So if I wanted to hang it up, I would put string between the hooks with a little slack, and then would only put a single picture hook into the wall.

If I needed two picture hooks I would either a) mark up for one and use a spirit level to mark up for the other, so it was at the same height.

b) Or if I didn't have a spirit level I would put one in, use a weighted piece of string to find the vertical, a book to get a right angle from the vertical (pencil mark then on top of the book to give a line level with the first hook) and then measure along from hook one to pencil mark to where hook 2 needed to be. Then put second hook in there.

All in all though, just use a single picture hook!

My mind is blown by this. Thank you 😭

Any tips for hanging a few pics side by side, level with even spacing?!

Brilliant thread. I did this last year and put an extra hole in the wall. Some great suggestions.

Rarfy · 22/08/2019 21:36

Ooh the pics side by side I used finger spaces lol.

WombatStewForTea · 22/08/2019 21:38

Ditto the masking tape method

Nacreous · 22/08/2019 21:41

Hello do you have a ruler or tape measure?

If so you use use the string and book and ruler method I gave above for hanging multiple pictures.

(However, spirit level is much easier and they do last basically forever, and you can get a 40cm one for a fiver from Screwfix).

Lumene · 22/08/2019 22:01

Don't use those command strips in bathrooms or kitchen, they don't seem to like moisture, I had pictures fall in the bathroom and pinny/teatowel hanger fall in the kitchen

TuckMyWin · 22/08/2019 22:12

Our whole house is practically held up by command strips. Only issues we've had are where we didn't use a big enough strip.

HelloMrDinosaur · 22/08/2019 22:17

Thank you! I do think I have a spirit level somewhere 🤨

OP posts:
Clawdy · 22/08/2019 23:11

Would the command strips work with a reasonably heavy picture? They do sound perfect in terms of ease. Our walls are incredibly hard, and hammering nails in is always a nightmare. How exactly do they work?

TuckMyWin · 23/08/2019 07:23

Clawdy, they are like really strong Velcro. One half sticks to the wall, the other half to the picture. The wall side can be unstuck without taking the paint off.
We have some pretty heavy pictures hanging with them- we've just used lots. The packet will advise on weight limits.

Clawdy · 23/08/2019 14:05

Ah, thanks, they sound great. Will definitely give them a try.

watcheait · 23/08/2019 15:46

Can command strips be used on wallpapered walls?

Redshoesandtheblues · 23/08/2019 18:02

watcheait- nope! I could have cried when I realized that these godsend stickers only apply to painted walls.
They will tear wallpaper.

Thats why Im watching this thread carefully! I have lots of pictures. And lots of wallpaper. 😳
