7...maybe 8 years ago, I went to a friends house for dinner and she made the most incredible pasta dish. I mean it was out of this world...she moved to New Zealand shortly after and we lost touch but I think of this pasta at least once a month!

Most recent one is I was in Copenhagen a few weeks ago and had cardamom buns from a particular bakery (Juno’s if anyone’s going!) and I've thought about them every single day since. I could actually cry at the thought of how epic they were!

When I was at junior school, so 30 years ago, they used to serve these sort of minced lamb burgers in a bread crumb coating, shaped a bit like a violin case. I absolutely loved them (though they probably would be approved of by Jamie Oliver). I still think about them now...

20 years ago at ex SIL wedding I had the most gorgeous potato and leek soup. Was out of this world. My mouth still dribbles at the thought of it. No matter how many recipes I try or what I buy nothing has ever come close

I was backpacking in New Zealand and we stopped at this place by the sea, in the afternoon some of the staff got into a little boat and went fishing and then cooked what they'd caught for dinner for us. The fish was amazing, the best thing I've ever eaten in my life, it had some kind of coating on it as well. I can't remember where we were or what kind of fish it was but I'd WALK back to NZ to eat it again Grin

We went to Paris for our fifth wedding anniversary and on the first night we went to a restaurant that has an in-house butcher.

We picked an extremely aged cote de boeuf for two... it was very expensive and the best thing I’ve ever eaten.

Oh, and we went to Le Gavroche for a relative’s 40th. By the time it got to the fourth course we were all insanely full and they brought out a huge, perfectly cooked beef Wellington... and I could barely eat any of it. I still see that uneaten wellington in my dreams.

We stopped at a bakery in Matera, Italy for some cream cakes. The literal translation was ‘tits’ because they look like breasts. They were the most incredible cakes ever and I need more in my life! They are a little light sponge cake with cream in the middle. I’m salivating just thinking about them.

Yes! At a canal village in China with a dear friend. We ordered a very simple meal from a canal-side hole in the wall. Stir fried aubergine, stir fried egg and a load of fluffy white rice. It was a cold day and I'll never forget how warm and tasty that food was.

cookiechomper · 21/08/2019 09:20

I remember these chocolate eggs I had as a kid about 25 years ago. They were a bit bigger than a creme egg but there was something like runny caramel syrup in the middle. I've never found anything like them.

fessmess · 21/08/2019 09:23

cookie were they in packs of about 8 in a long box?Half wrapped in pink foil half in blue? If so I remember them, I LOVED them and asked for them every Easter.

OvalCanvas · 21/08/2019 09:25

Monkfish curry served with chips from a restaurant in Brixham a few years ago. It was simple but absolutely perfect.

IDontBelieveYou · 21/08/2019 09:26

A goats cheese crepe from the place next to Shakespeares book shop in Paris.

A steak in Bruges on the day I got engaged. Proper melt in your mouth stuff.

Bacon ribs at my best friend’s wedding.

Pipandmum · 21/08/2019 09:26

My mother’s curry.
Raw jiffy brownie mix!

Almost every meal I had in the 'real' Mexico (spent a lot of time there). The carnitas with salsa from the night markets, fish tacos, any tacos, all the different breakfasts with gorgeous homemade tortillas held like knives to mop up the received bean, more lovely salsas; Mexican food is just so damn tasty. Miss it every day. If anyone knows anything close to it in London, let me know! Wahaca is nice but anywhere else?

I went to Belgium with a friend over 20 years ago and she bought these chocolates from a stall.

They were small, white chocolate coated something's. That filling was to die for.

I can remember the street the stall was in, and it's relation to the main square but nothing else.

I think about these chocolates on a regular basis.

That and my mum's sausage casserole. My name sponge cakes.
My ex mil Christmas very very boozy trifle.

I think about food far too much.

I had a toasted cheese sandwich in Annette’s Diner at Disneyland Paris about 25 years ago. I can still remember the taste, I’ve never been able to replicate it.

KennDodd · 21/08/2019 09:45

Yes, cheese pie. Used to have to for school dinners, never seen or heard of it since despite searching for recipes.

Soontobe60 · 21/08/2019 09:46

My grandma used to make amazing rabbit pie with a suet crust which we loved!
Also her homemade rice pud using sterilised milk with a thick burned skin on top served with evaporated milk. Food of the Gods!

I get this; I had a horrible horrible ex but he used to make a Thai curry and a pasta dish that was amazing and I never learnt to make it. It’s the only thing I miss about him though.

slavetolife · 21/08/2019 09:53

Omg the pizza I had in Florence with DH on honeymoon - to die for, we ate there about 4 times! And a meal our with a friend, I had a slow cooked rib of beef and genuinely still think it was the nicest thing I have ever eaten, it was years ago and my mouth still waters when I think of it - yum!!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 21/08/2019 09:57

The pomelo salad I had in a Thai restaurant in Hong Kong. Just beautiful.

MyHairNeedsASnip · 21/08/2019 10:00

Vegas, went to a steak restaurant. I don't think about the steak though, I think about the best baked potato in the world that was with it. Just the right amount of crunch on the skin, soft and fluffy on the inside with cheese and sour cream and chives on top.

Pimmsypimms · 21/08/2019 10:02

@historysock omg, I remember those breaded lamb burgers!!!! I bloody loved them!!!

icanthelpyou · 21/08/2019 10:02

Amazing nacho dish in Cyprus, vege and meat versions, amazing. Was only in May so thinking about them every other day.

Sandwich in the cafe on ground floor of the shard, BLT, best sandwich I've ever had.

And these Iced croissants in Italy, beautiful.

magicstar1 · 21/08/2019 10:05

Ex-boyfriend and I had Chateaubriand in Prague, in this little Maltese restaurant. It was underground in a cellar, and food was amazing. I tried to find it again but it had been sold and food reviews are now terrible.
When DH and I were on honeymoon in Melbourne we found a shabby little restaurant and had chowder for starters. It was so awesome we went back every night of our trip and had a huge bowl for mains lol. We still talk about it all the time.
Also, our wedding cake. We often wonder if enough time has gone by that we can try to pretend we're getting married for some free samples!

Ginmel · 21/08/2019 10:07

An apple, sultana and cinnamon icecream I had when I was about 7.
