Story here

Is this the first sensible thing he has done?

I don't wish to start a fight BTW

I think he should have bigger priorities at the moment.

oddsocks123 · 19/08/2019 09:21

I'm not anti-vaxx, but now Boris Johnson is firmly against it I'm now questioning if I should be!

ForalltheSaints · 19/08/2019 10:19

He's right, but I don't think that people will take much notice. So that's two things he has got correct, vs a lot incorrect.

If the Chief Medical Officer or even the Health Secretary had made the announcement, much more chance of success.

NewMum54321 · 19/08/2019 10:21

I think it's nice to see anything else on his radar outside of you know what. And this should definitely be a priority IMO!

DGRossetti · 19/08/2019 10:23

Personally I think it's just an excuse for having control of social media, so the government can start pulling any "unhelpful" stories - all for our own good, of course.

Key line:

Social media companies are being urged to quash misleading anti-vaccine messages

Good. Whatever you think of him as a person this is a positive government initiative. Vaccination is important,

Pinkyyy · 07/01/2020 18:23

None of his business, it's the parents' choice.

puds11 · 07/01/2020 18:26

@oddsocks123 really Hmm

ThisIsSharonVanEtten · 07/01/2020 18:27

Pinky no it isn’t. It is a matter of public health.

MustardScreams · 07/01/2020 18:28

Parents don’t have the right to make detrimental choices for their children just because they ‘researched’ (ie read some questionable science online) and decided vaccines are dangerous. Which they aren’t,

Compulsory vaccines are the way forward.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 07/01/2020 18:32

I think this is a good idea.

Compulsory vaccination or no school place is an even better idea. (Obvious exemptions for children who can't be vaccinated for specific, doctor-diagnosed medical conditions.)

CosmoK · 07/01/2020 18:36

Good on him.
No pinkyy it's not. Not vaccinating unless medically advised is dangerous and irresponsible.
How is it that my cat has to be vaccinated to go to a cattery yet my child gets to potentially go to school with unnecessarily unvaccinated children.

Newmetoday · 07/01/2020 18:43

The left in a nutshell.

Expressedways · 07/01/2020 18:54

An information campaign is pointless. The U.K. should have compulsory vaccination for state schools and all nurseries unless granted a medical exemption by a doctor. France is now doing it, a lot of US states do it, as a PP pointed out it’s the policy for pets when boarding. Anything else is a waste of time that anti-vaccine idiots with their conspiracy theories won’t believe anyway.

Hoik · 07/01/2020 18:56

The committed anti-vaxx types won't care one bit about this information that will be provided to promote vaccinations,if anything it will only make them more determined as they will say that it's inaccurate, lies, propaganda, etc.

C130 · 07/01/2020 19:00

It is up to parents if they choose to vaccinate their children.

PlanDeRaccordement · 07/01/2020 19:02

I am all for some vaccines being compulsory, but not all vaccines being compulsory. The compulsory ones should be the ones necessary for public health.

Nonnymum · 07/01/2020 19:04

Its the right thing to do but I doubt he has had much to do with it. It will have come from the Department Of Health. Pretty sure Matt Hancock mentioned it a while ago.

gamerwidow · 07/01/2020 19:04

I’m no fan of Boris but this is a sensible and well needed decision.
I hadn’t realised the UK had lost Measles free status, that’s a travesty.

Tableclothing · 07/01/2020 19:04

I mean, it sounds like what will actually happen is the production of a leaflet. Big wow. But I think this may be the first thing I'm aware of Boris doing that I didn't think was bloody awful, so there's that.

he should have bigger priorities I dunno. Falling vaccination rates = more dead children, so I think it's fairly important. And it probably took 10 mins to hear the proposal, say yes, and make the statement. I don't think it was a bad use of his time.

CosmoK · 07/01/2020 19:04

It's shouldn't be C130

Nonnymum · 07/01/2020 19:05

The compulsory ones should be the ones necessary for public health.
Isn't that all of them?

gamerwidow · 07/01/2020 19:06

Isn't that all of them
Yes the governments not going to pay for vaccines which aren’t essential.

C130 · 07/01/2020 19:09

Well it is, and name calling or other put downs is never the way to change anything.
