Hit me with suggestions please! DS is 12 and DD 15. I'm struggling with places to go that don't cost a fortune but will entertain them both (&me).

It might help if you give a vague idea of location Grin No point in giving suggestions of things to do in Scotland if you live in Cornwall!!

NCTDN · 18/08/2019 13:00

Anywhere in the north west !

Cycling
Try tennis or golf together
Mine like some (usually more modern) art galleries and museums (science ones are the best)
Long walk with a picnic or pub lunch at the end
Use family and friends railcard to catch a train somewhere new
Look for Groupon deals locally and get them to pick something each to try
Cooking- one course each for a feast or one night each to get them involved

Failing that, get their friends around and then you can ignore them!

lljkk · 18/08/2019 14:39

I have 11yo & 15yo DS.

Swimming; they swim, I browse MN from the Gallery. sometimes we can all do lanes together.

Country parks (long walks, larking around in woods), picnic + cafe or ice cream stop. Ditto beach, woods.

Agree that pizza making, baking, jelly making (moulds) can turn into an activity.

Do you have a budget, OP?

LynetteScavo · 18/08/2019 14:40

Mine hate art galleries but love crazy golf.

They also like boat rides...ferry across the Mersey?

lljkk · 18/08/2019 14:41

Mine could still lark about with a bit of Pokemon Go, too.

LynetteScavo · 18/08/2019 14:41

Ice skating?

Fleetheart · 18/08/2019 14:41

My 15 year old DS will only come out with me if there is no chance of meeting anyone he knows. He can be persuaded if there is a fast food visit somewhere on the agenda. But generally he prefers to stay at home and mooch.

LynetteScavo · 18/08/2019 14:42

Raspberry picking?

We go walking a lot, if you're in the North West there are so many places to go for a good hike.

whiteroseredrose · 18/08/2019 15:19

Depends on their interests -
Crocky Trail or Manley Mere if they like outdoors.
Sale Water Park for canoeing
Liverpool - music museums, Beatles houses, Hop On Hop Off buses. Lots of stuff.
Blackpool - Pleasure Beach and Sands Waterpark
Chester - Roman Museum, Shopping, Boat Trip.

whiteroseredrose · 18/08/2019 15:23

Hack Green Nuclear Bunker followed by outdoor swimming pool.

whiteroseredrose · 18/08/2019 15:45

Ironbridge Gorge and Blists Hill Past Museum.

Trentham Monkey Forest, Barefoot Walk, Go Ape.

Hawkstone Park Follies

The Forbidden Corner in N Yorkshire

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Malham Limestone Pavement

NCTDN · 19/08/2019 07:45

Thanks for the ideas. We've done most of these already.
DD is like @Fleetheart that she is very bothered about others atm and will only do things if she won't be seen by people she knows Hmm
Things not done are the expensive ones. I'm going to investigate the nuclear bunker.
DD not into history / ds not into art which makes a challenge! Hopefully the improvement of the weather means some beach days fingers crossed it stays

could do them again.... ? That's how walks are. Same walk can be done a few times each summer.

Leeds2 · 20/08/2019 18:03

An Escape Room.
Ten pin bowling.
Go Ape!

iklboo · 20/08/2019 18:04

THIS PLACE is great.

NCTDN · 20/08/2019 20:29

Thanks for the ideas - just struggling to keep costs down. Even getting the train is not cheap!!
Don't appreciate the sarcasm though @ragged - I'm well aware what walks are.

OP posts:
FogCutter · 20/08/2019 20:37

Cat cafe (Liverpool and I think Manchester has one)
All the Liverpool museums, DS likes the customs and excise one best.
National football museum in Manchester
Beach
Waterworld in Stoke
Outdoor laser combat in N Wales- llandegla laser combat and then a walk in the forest.

AdelaideK · 20/08/2019 20:48

Llandudno. Tobogganing is fun.
Any castles maybe? Conwy or Heston?
Southport. Splashworld is there.
Up the Radio City tower in Liverpool.
There's a few VR places around.
Walton Hall gardens.
A drive in cinema.

It's hard to spend less with teens but most of the museums are free.

NCTDN · 20/08/2019 21:48

@AdelaideK have you been to the radio city tower?

OP posts:
AdelaideK · 20/08/2019 22:08

Yes you have a little walk round and can look in the studio but it's mainly looking at the views.

Not worth a special trip but if you're in Liverpool it's worth a look.
