How do I make the seal around the bath white again??

Boring thread I know...

It’s all black with Mildred. It looks awful. Mould remover spray doesn’t work. I have just chucked Zoflora at it because that fixes everything but it looks the same 🤷🏻‍♀️

Any magic tricks? Or do I need to replace the seal?

Just replace it :) it’s not expensive

PurpleDaisies · 16/08/2019 09:39

I agree with replacing it.

Bloody Mildred. She’s a right nuisance.

That sneaky Mildred.

BeyondMyWits · 16/08/2019 09:44

Would replace it, does not cost a lot.

Or, if on a budget, neat bleach on an old toothbrush. Brush it on, leave overnight and wipe it off.

Daffodil2018 · 16/08/2019 09:44

This is what you want:

HG Mould Spray https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000IU40HQ/ref=cmswwrsmsscapiiiDZMvDbYKXQ2CP

Works every time!

HelloMrDinosaur · 16/08/2019 09:46

How do you replace it? Remove it and apply it again?

Pinkyyy · 16/08/2019 09:46

Put bleach on it, leave for 5-10 mins and scrub away. It will disappear.

Clutterfreeintraining · 16/08/2019 09:47

I second the HG mould spray.

Mrsjayy · 16/08/2019 09:52

I put bleach on a cotton bud swipe it round and scrub it off with a scrubby sponge. Stop throwing zoflora at it will do nothing except making it smell flowery.

BeyondMyWits · 16/08/2019 09:52

Yep - remove it - carefully, don't want to scratch the bath. Then wipe all the surfaces down with bleach (to discourage mildew) then apply a new seal - don't know if you have a plastic strip type seal or a silicon goop seal? Instructions readily available on you-tube... Just remember to put water in the bath before applying the seal - as the bath will move slightly depending if full or empty and you don't want the seal to rip when it is completely dry and you have the first bath/shower... (oh yes it does... experience!)

Star801 · 16/08/2019 09:53

Bleach or replace it. It’s easy enough to do yourself.

TheCanyon · 16/08/2019 09:55

I cut cotton pads into strips, soak in bleach and put them on overnight.

LauraPalmersBodybag · 16/08/2019 10:02

Soak cotton wool in bleach and pack it tightly around the black areas. Leave overnight and then remove and wash off. Works a treat.

ChristineBaskets · 16/08/2019 10:08

I'm going to use that bleach and cotton wool tip thanks, I have terrible trouble with Mildred in the bathroom.

(sings to tune of 'mirror in the bathroom')

decisionsindecisions · 16/08/2019 10:28

HG spray. It is about the only thing I have ever bought that does what it claims to do.

fandabbyfannyflutters · 16/08/2019 10:28

Better than being black with George

supercee · 16/08/2019 10:31

Another vote for the HG spray. Brilliant stuff.

merlotqueen · 16/08/2019 10:31

I saw in Tesco yesterday some sealant renew, you apply it into the current sealant. Worth a gander?

ShowOfHands · 16/08/2019 10:33

I mix bicarb with bleach to make a paste and paint it on. Leave it as long as you can and rinse. No scrubbing required. It's like magic.

Fatted · 16/08/2019 10:34

Grin at Mildred!!

Another vote for bleach. But apparently on MN you are not allowed to bleach your bathroom because there is no need for it. Hmm

daphine2004 · 16/08/2019 10:38

Cillit Bang mould spray is highly effective.

SheilaBruce · 16/08/2019 10:43

Bicarb soda and thick bleach made into a thick paste. Apply generously. Leave overnight . Your house may or may not smell like a leisure centre.

SheilaBruce · 16/08/2019 10:46

If you redo the sealant, apparently it's good practice to fill the bath full of water so it is at its maximum position. That way it doesn't stretch/break once the bathtub is being used. Was told this and we did this. Had no problems since (but it may well be a joke played on us, who knows).
