I remember:
Grey PE "knickers" Envy Blush
Bringing in your Dad's old shirt to wear backwards as a painting apron.
Everyone being given a tobbaco tin to keep your crayons in

Those hedgehog things with little plastic spines to hold felt pens (only for the cool girls)

Those pencil cases meant to look like coke cans and crisp packets!

FurnitureAndBackgammon · 13/08/2019 18:31

Yes I remember the backwards shirts 😆
Also we had those luminous gym bags/swimming bags where you could choose the picture on it - a gymnast/footballer etc anyone remember them?
Oh and shiny new patent leather shoes 😁
And rubbers shaped like lightbulbs

Fluffy pencil case.
Army surplus bag

And the lick and stick woven ones not self-stick!

Gingernaut · 13/08/2019 18:39

Nylon tabards from the Coop for Art and Home Economics.

Moody sticky backed plastic for exercise books.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 13/08/2019 18:39

Cartridge pens. Only allowed for those who'd mastered joined up writing (the honour)

Bang on the Door stationery. I remember having Spider ones.

Then when older, a metal pencil tin that would remain pristine for about 1 day before being covered in scratched initials etc into.

Big chunky lace up Hush Puppies shoes.

ScreamingValenta · 13/08/2019 18:48

Fido Dido pencil cases, files, rulers etc.

managedmis · 13/08/2019 18:50

ScreamingValenta · 13/08/2019 18:51

Mine's mid-80s.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 13/08/2019 18:52

Superdrug did stationery.

Matching stationery, (including exercise books) from Superdrug and finding everyone else had the same idea when you got to class.

catofdoom · 13/08/2019 19:20

Naf naf file binders were the shit

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 13/08/2019 19:20

Wrapping your exercise book in wrapping paper, wall paper or (posh) sticky back plastic.

OP posts:
catofdoom · 13/08/2019 19:22

Only the very rich kids got sticky backed plastic.

ScreamingValenta · 13/08/2019 19:24

Wrapping your exercise book

The cool girls at my school would wrap their books in magazine pin-ups of Morten Harket Grin. I was stuck with some terrible 70s flowery wallpaper my dad unearthed from the cupboard under the stairs Sad.

BelulahBlanca · 13/08/2019 19:24

Jane Norman bags for PE, scented gel pens!

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 13/08/2019 19:29

Smelly rubbers. I had a huge collection.

OverpricedFloorCushion · 13/08/2019 19:29

We used to wrap our jotters in posters from Smash Hits magazine.

Also after Christmas bringing in cut up Christmas cards to use as bookmarks.

Oh yeah! Collecting rubbers was a thing, wasn't it? I had one really cool one in the shape of a burger. With seperate individual rubbers for the bun, burger, lettuce leaf etc..

I remember using my one and only 'Chelsea Girl' carrier bag for my games kit until it fell apart.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 13/08/2019 19:36

In my school River Island was the carrier bag you wanted.
Or JD sports if you were a chav.
I remember a JD sports carrier bag with a draw string type arrangement like a real bag. I carried that around for a bit, in the hopes it looked cool. Blush
