Unwanted religious stuff

Am I over reacting here? I bought an expensive item off etsy for a relatives birthday.
Anyway it arrived pretty quick but the packaging was stuffed with pamphlets on the good news about Jesus.
Now don't get me wrong if this was a free item then fair enough. I'd just have ignored it but I paid a lot of money for this and expected a professional transaction here not enough religious paperwork to wall paper my house with.
I'm another religion not Christian and this has really pissed me off.

Just shove them in the recycling and if you order from there again request they don't send any religious information.

inboxmayhem · 12/08/2019 21:37

That would PISS me off.

Cohle · 12/08/2019 22:02

I'd probably mention it in a review.

Yes leave a review. Id have the right hump about that.

tryingtobebetterallthetime · 12/08/2019 22:06

It would bother me too. We once rented a condo for a vacation and the whole place was littered with religious messages. Even the bathroom. We went around and discretely covered them.

Was it for you to read or simply used as wrapping/protection/packaging?

RevSeptimusHarding · 13/08/2019 00:10

Was it just there as packaging? I've just had a package from Ireland with pages and pages of of The Cork Examiner in it. Nobody, I assume, expects me to read it (tho' I did)!

Bezalelle · 13/08/2019 07:00

Definitely leave a bad review! Can't stand evangelising.

RushianDisney · 13/08/2019 07:08

Might it not have just been waste paper they used for packaging?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/08/2019 07:11

That would piss me off- mention in the review

ScreamingValenta · 13/08/2019 07:12

You don't have to read them - just put them in the recycling. They wouldn't bother me - I'd probably look through them, just out of interest (I'm an agnostic). As a pp said, they might have been used for packaging rather than evangelising purposes.

Woodlandwitch · 13/08/2019 07:14

I’d rather receive a pizza pamphlet than religious leaflets

Lucafritz · 13/08/2019 07:15

Nothing worse than people forcing their religion on others YANBU leave the seller a bad review for it and message her saying why. Fair enough people have religion's but they shouldn't force them on other's or mention them to non religious people its so rude and offensive you think people would know better in this day and age what is appropriate and what isn't Hmm

CherryCheezcake · 13/08/2019 07:17

Depends if they were used as packaging, or included in the parcel. The sender might have been making use of some waste paper they didn't want - reusing before recycling

acatcalledjohn · 13/08/2019 08:13

Yeah, that would piss me off. There is a particular product I like and used to follow them on Instagram, until they started sharing religious messages and TV pastors spouting bullshit for $$$. It became a lot of evangelising and quite frankly, I like their product but can't stand the constant evangelising. Unfollowed them and am on the lookout for an alternative product.

I'd leave a review.

BertrandRussell · 13/08/2019 08:15

Give them a poor review because of it.

Lisette1940 · 13/08/2019 08:20

That would annoy me and I'm Christian.

TravellingSpoon · 13/08/2019 08:32

It kind of depends on thr context. Was it there for you to read or just to protext the package?

Babdoc · 13/08/2019 08:40

What actual harm did it do you? Why is it any worse than the junk mail that comes through your door, or the endless unwanted ads on Mumsnet?
To the PPs who said Christians should basically shut up, never mention their faith and not “ force it on others” - you seem to lack any knowledge of the basis of Christianity. We live our faith in action, not believe it in silent isolation. We are expected to share the good news of God’s love and Christ’s redemption with our fellow humans, not keep it greedily to ourselves. You have been freely offered love - if you want to reject it, that’s fine, just bin the leaflets.

Saucery · 13/08/2019 08:44

I’d knock a star off my Etsy review for that and make it clear why. Although they are recycling, so maybe they just had them lying around. Might be leaflets they’ve had stuffed through their door themselves and decided to reuse them. It’s not very professional though, so YANBU.

WalkofShame · 13/08/2019 08:47

You have been freely offered love

No, the OP has had a doctrine thrust at her, completely uninvited and unwanted. It’s on a par with Britain First or UKIP posting their drivel through people’s doors.

Yes, it can go in the bin but why should any of us have to engage in any way with this stuff if we didn’t ask for it.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/08/2019 08:49

Babdoc not just Christianity, all religions should keep their thoughts to themselves. Would you be happy with a bunch of Satanist leaflets ending up in your delivery?

legolimb · 13/08/2019 08:52

Very odd OP.

I'd message the seller and ask her about her choice of 'packaging' first. If she is trying to sell the religion to her customers then post a review..

i have enough trouble on some facebook pages i look at. Too much praising of God for their own hard work. Very odd.

BertrandRussell · 13/08/2019 08:54

“Babdoc not just Christianity, all religions should keep their thoughts to themselves. ”
This.
I wish Christians wouldn’t do this “poor persecuted minority” thing. It’s deeply tedious. In the U.K. they have a uniquely privileged position.
