Do you bleach your bath?

After reading on another thread about people using (or in this case not using) bleach when cleaning their baths I was shocked to hear that I'm in the minority of people who do this.
Do you use bleach to clean your baths?

OP posts:

I remember Kim and Aggie saying that if you could smell bleach you'd used too much and they only ever put it down manky loos.

Kim and Aggie 😂

wowfudge · 12/08/2019 19:55

Well let's face it, they cleaned some filthy shit tips so if only using a bit in a grotty toilet was enough...

DameSquashalot · 12/08/2019 19:57

I hate the smell of bleach.

I think 🤮 about using bleach anywhere near where food is prepared.

I wouldn't want to sit in a bath that had been cleaned with bleach.

I surely can't be the first to say it on an MN thread!?Grin I use zoflora to clean all surfaces in the house at least once a week-includes bathroom, kitchen and floors (damp mop wooden floors and tiles). Dunno if it's a bleach or an anti bacterial? Makes the house smell nice like nothing else however.
Bleach only toilets and butler sink and only then when we are going on holiday for a week or longer-don't even know why I do that really 🤷🏽‍♀️because my Mum used to probably.

ExpletiveDelighted · 12/08/2019 20:00

No, I never use it for routine cleaning, just keep some in for mouldy sealant, smelly drains or similar. I do use bleach spray on the kitchen sink sometimes to get rid of tea and coffee stains though.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 12/08/2019 20:01

I have to dust mine. None of us like baths. I have 3 of the buggers.

64sNewName · 12/08/2019 20:02

I don’t put actual neat bleach on it, but I do have some of the Flash with bleach spray, which I occasionally use for scrubbing the bath/hand basins if they get really filthy.

Never use bleach anywhere else in the house - wouldn’t feel right using it in the kitchen.

Winter2019 · 12/08/2019 20:02

No, just a regular bathroom cleaner

DameSquashalot · 12/08/2019 20:05

I hate the smell of Zoflora and most shop bought cleaners. I can taste them. DH insists on buying them.

Even KINN smells horrible and it's supposed to be natural. It's not as bad as Zoflora though.

SuzieQ10 · 12/08/2019 20:10

Sometimes I do, if I feel it could do with it.
But my routine bathroom clean would just be an anti-bac spray. Or even just warm water with fairy and a dash of disinfectant & a cloth.

Passthecherrycoke · 12/08/2019 20:11

I don’t like the smell of zoflora either

I use a bathroom spray, sometimes with bleach. I often buy something because it’s on special offer to try. I bleach the loos every other day and the plug holes and kitchen sink regularly but not specifically the bath. It’s cleaned every other day so I wouldn’t say it gets dirty really.

AngelasAshes · 12/08/2019 20:12

I live in a hard water area and have old fashioned tub with real enamel so I cannot use any scouring/abrasive cleaner.
So I use flash with bleach and cilit bang on my tub at least once a week.
Bleach doesn’t just kill bacteria, it kills fungus. Regular soaps do nothing to prevent athletes foot or mildew from forming.
Bleach doesn’t harm real enamel. Just the modern enamel which is actually a poly sealant not enamel.

pelirocco123 · 12/08/2019 20:13

I had a friend who managed a large cleaning firm , she told me bleach was no good for cleaning and in fact at thevwrong dilution breeds bacteria. Bleach just bleache the gunk white so you cant see it

Sparklingbrook · 12/08/2019 20:15

I don't use bleach for anything, it smells revolting, and makes me heave.

Passthecherrycoke · 12/08/2019 20:17

Your friend is wrong pelirocco, bleach doesn’t bleach everything white. It wouldn’t be used in hospitals if it didn’t work.

Tbf a few people have spoken about cleaners but anyone can be a cleaner- I’ve been one myself- doesn’t make you an expert on how cleaning products work

orangeshoebox · 12/08/2019 20:18

bleach is for disinfecting not cleaning.
soap & warm water cleans everything enough unless you have someone immunocompromised in your home or you need to stop a really nasty infection.

huggybear · 12/08/2019 20:20

Nope, I use method.

namby · 12/08/2019 20:21

Why does a bath need disinfecting?! What are you doing in it?!

limesoda · 12/08/2019 20:23

Nope. A non-bleach bathroom spray works fine.

Bleach does have its uses, but a routine cleaner isn’t one of them IMO.

RezCowgirl · 12/08/2019 20:23

Nope, ive banned bleach from my house but not for environmental reasons more to save my clothes cos i always splash no matter how careful I am trying to be.

Parker231 · 12/08/2019 20:27

Why would you need bleach for your bathroom? I can’t remember ever buying any. I prefer Method - nice smell and everything comes up gleaming.

PancakeAndKeith · 12/08/2019 20:28

No. Why would you need to bleach your bath?

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 12/08/2019 20:32

Unless you’re a serial killer disposing of bodies, you do not need to cover your bathroom or any part of your house (except a toilet bowl) with a dangerous corrosive product.

itbemay1 · 12/08/2019 20:32

Jif cream and a scourer here on bath, tiles, sink etc

DaisyChains6 · 12/08/2019 20:34

Bleach doesn't clean your bath, it disinfects it.

Soap and water will clean your bath but won't disinfect it.

Disinfectants work best when the area is cleaned first, ie; soap and water.
