If only this house was in London...

www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/52302725?search_identifier=4185456f38500a548b7e15b627d04c36 i think its lovely for the price. Im never going to get on the property ladder here, ever. I cant face leaving London just yet, its still exciting to me even in middle age. I wonder if the prices up North are always going to stay the same?

What is it you value more? Do you want to be on the property ladder or do you want to live the London life? There are other cities outside of London. No one can tell you what house prices will do in the future. Could you move elsewhere and find work?

ShirleyPhallus · 12/08/2019 13:56

Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. That house looks like a shed to me with hideous interior.

What do you earn and where abouts are you looking? You could get a one bed flat for twice that in an “up and coming” area of London

EachandEveryone · 12/08/2019 13:56

No not really its about family and friendships. Im too only to be bothered to start again in a strange town. Every now and again I look at properties and dream! Trouble is with my home town you wouldnt get much rent so you would have to live it really.

Well, i dont know about a shed it looks like a typical council house which has been done up nicely.

INeedNewShoes · 12/08/2019 13:58

I really don't like the outside space on that house!

I have similar thoughts but to moving to somewhere rural in the North (I am a rare fan of Hull, but not that bit!).

I could sell my ex-local 3 bed on an estate in the SE and get a nice 3 bed in a nice villlage and have a view out of my windows that isn't just other people's houses.

EachandEveryone · 12/08/2019 14:04

We all have different tastes. I happen to think this one could be decorated and would be a great space www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/50838689?search_identifier=45c16dde9f3bc6c74cff638662f8b96c its funny how no one bats an eye at paying £500 grand plus for an ex council flat in London.

Im just thinking of my future when instart cutting down my hours I wont beable to sustain a London lifestyle. My nhs lump sum will beable to buy me somewhere up north though.

I'm not really getting the love for the house either. It's nice enough, but not normally what most folks would consider th stuff dreams are made of. Which makes me slightly concerned about where you live now.

I'm not sure what you classify as middle age, but if you could afford this, then would you not consider shared ownership?

ParrotsForLife · 12/08/2019 14:06

By all means come to Hull. But don’t buy a house on Bransholme. Where that house is. It’s a shit hole.

BarbaraofSeville · 12/08/2019 14:07

Well you can't have everything.

You're sacrificing a secure and affordable home for your exciting London life and you seem to have decided that it is worth it to you.

The difference in property prices is never going to change while there's such a difference in demand.

You could always move to a northern city where there's lots going on and have frequent weekend breaks in London.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 12/08/2019 14:15

Don't look like my council house .

I don't like it OP but that is what makes people unique I guess Smile

EachandEveryone · 12/08/2019 14:20

Im not sacrificing anything 🤔

How does shared ownership work when they are charging £500 rent on top of the mortgage repayments plus the maintenance fees?

OP posts:
089ville · 12/08/2019 14:23

London is way overpriced. A correction will come, but not as big as youd need though.

They've doubled again in price within the last decade all while wages are down in real terms. Won't be such a good place to live in the future because of how unaffordable it is.

Bluntness100 · 12/08/2019 14:23

They aren't charging five hundred quid. It depends on how much you own. Really take some time to look it up and understand it.

Singlenotsingle · 12/08/2019 14:24

Nice inside, but nothing special outside.

EachandEveryone · 12/08/2019 14:26

Im a nurse bluntness i need to be in a specific area. I would love for you to look at shared ownership in Colindale and point me in the right direction. Oh, and I have cats so theres no high rise flats for me. Which is what the majority of shared ownership is.

OP posts:
BarbaraofSeville · 12/08/2019 14:32

As a nurse you could live and work anywhere and be able to afford to buy a nice house in many areas.

Unless there are any special schemes for NHS staff, you are pretty much stuck renting, but looking on rightmove for shared ownership properties in and around Colindale will point you in the right direction.

You aren't going to be able to buy a house in or near London at anywhere near Hull prices anytime soon, so I don't know what point you are trying to make.

needmorespace · 12/08/2019 14:32

I’m sure there are houses like that in London. But not at that price. So I guess what you mean is you wish London prices were as low as the rest of the country. But that’s never been the case. Even twenty five years ago my small three bed London terrace was more than double that. In an area that is desirable now but a shithole back then.

MrsGrindah · 12/08/2019 14:34

I thought that Parrots but I dared to post it!

ParrotsForLife · 12/08/2019 14:37

I love Hull, it’s my home town, but I don’t see why someone’s waxing lyrical about house prices when in reality the houses on this thread are in a deprived area with quite a few issues. They’re cheap for a reason. Plus comparing housing in Hull and London is daft, it’s like comparing apples and oranges.

CassianAndor · 12/08/2019 14:37

if you;re a nurse you're hardly tied to London! You can do that anywhere.

We are tied to London for work (both of us, which is a crap double whammy) and frankly it's a drag.

MrsGrindah · 12/08/2019 14:41

Actually I feel a bit mean now. That’s someone’s home after all...

ShirleyPhallus · 12/08/2019 14:47

OP if you tell us your budget I’m sure some of us could suggest somewhere you could afford to buy

Have you got any savings at all?

MrsAmaretto · 12/08/2019 15:08

We’re screaming out for nurses in rural Scotland :) Not much use if you want to be near family though....

IAskTooManyQuestions · 12/08/2019 15:11

Im sorry OP - its grey and its bleak and miserable, grey shingle and grey skies, its like a moon scape, It's sdepressing

x2boys · 12/08/2019 15:23

Well it's one of those sacrifices you make if you want to live in London ,there' are much nicer houses for that price in my Northwest town also ,lots of hospitals within relatively short distance ,but oh can't ave both.
