Please help, should I take him to hospital?

My neighbours have just knocked and told us that our 14yo son was unconscious on the ground outside our house - we rushed out and he's clearly been drinking HUGE amounts of alcohol Sad he's wet himself, he's now regained consciousness and vomited copiously, he can't stand unaided and he's barely able to talk. Is also being quite aggressive and wont let his dad bring him into the house. Not able to tell us how much he's had or what it was.

Obviously he's in shit so deep he'll probably never get out Angry but should we take him to hospital? DH wants to put him to bed (not sure how!) but I'm worried about choking on vomit and/or alcohol poisoning.

Please take him. He could have taken /been given drugs too. Hope all works out for him.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 11/08/2019 19:38

Do you know where his friends live? If so, you take him to A&E, Dad needs to go round and see what else is going on. If his friends are able to carry him and have the self-preservation to run away, he's either drank a whole lot more than them or there's something else involved.

littleducks · 11/08/2019 19:38

Yes. The being drunk could be masking a head injury (?aggressive) or there may be drugs involved too.
If you know friends numbers (or take ds' phone) call and explain they wont be in any trouble but you need to know what he has had

Shittiestdayinalongtime · 11/08/2019 19:38

Yes, another one saying a&e

Harp1977 · 11/08/2019 19:39

Please take him, he will probably get very dehydrated and need a saline IV yes have been there with teensSad bring some cash and pH charger as you will be there awhile.
Please be calm and nice, you can loose the plot when he is sober. But now calm and cool to get him the help he seems to need. Flowers

OddBoots · 11/08/2019 19:42

Yes, take him.

You take him and he sobers up in the waiting room then you might feel a bit silly but no harm done. You don't take him and he goes downhill because he can't tell you he has taken something or he has been spiked then the results could be serious.

ohnopleasenotthis · 11/08/2019 19:44

He's vomiting again and completely incoherent/can't stand up. I feel awful about it but I've called an ambulance Sad

Yes. Good luck.

Frith2013 · 11/08/2019 19:45

Cross-posted.

I think you’ve done the best thing.

TheSheepofWallSt · 11/08/2019 19:45

Hope he’s okay OP. How worrying for you. Sad

orangeshoebox · 11/08/2019 19:45

totally reasonable to call an ambulance in this case.
I hope he feels better soon.

user1483387154 · 11/08/2019 19:45

you are doing the right thing.

DeaflySilence · 11/08/2019 19:46

Absolutely A&E. You have no idea how much he has drunk or whether there are other substances involved. All you know is he lost consciousness.

Please take him. Whether they admit him to a ward or not, I think he will be there all night, so go prepared.

Am astounded at the poster who, knowing that he's already lost consciousness once and is a serious unconscious vomiting risk, thinks you should give him food.

MrsKCastle · 11/08/2019 19:47

Don't feel bad. Sounds like you've made the right choice.

munemema · 11/08/2019 19:47

I'm not sure an ambulance was necessary or that they'll treat it as a priority but yes he should go to A&E.

Do you know who he was out with? Can you find out if he's "only" had alcohol? It is odd that he's in so much worse state than them and that they felt they had something to hide. My DSis got in a similar state at the same age but her friends were quite happy to tell everyone why she was so much more stupid than them!

Haggisfish · 11/08/2019 19:47

I hope he’s ok op. You’ve done the right thing. Deal with your (understandable) anger later.

SofiaAmes · 11/08/2019 19:47

Don't assume that he's only ingested alcohol. Does he have his phone? Can you call his mates and figure out what else he might have taken?

Knittedfairies · 11/08/2019 19:48

Good call OP.

Banana770 · 11/08/2019 19:48

I hope he’s okay, I also think you’ve 100% done the right thing in this situation.

Hawkmoth · 11/08/2019 19:49

I think it would be pretty dangerous to try to transport an aggressive, vomiting and partially conscious young man by car. I think an ambulance is less risky.

howdyalikemenow · 11/08/2019 19:49

Good call

SofiaAmes · 11/08/2019 19:49

Going by ambulance doesn't mean they will treat it as priority (sure didn't when my ex had a work accident and almost chopped his arm off and needed 50 stitches....). But it does mean that a medical professional will be monitoring his vitals on the way to the hospital which it surely sounds like he needs. You can't know that it's "only" alcohol and in any case too much alcohol can be deadly.

rosesandcashmere · 11/08/2019 19:50

If you know he hasn't hit his head then no. HOWEVER - I don't think you can be sure so yes take him: drunk, query head injury

Harp1977 · 11/08/2019 19:50

An ambulance is right in this situation please don not feel guilty for doing the right thing.he needs professional help right now. I hope you don't have a long wait

HollowTalk · 11/08/2019 19:50

Why do you feel awful, OP? You are doing the best thing for your son.
