Please help, should I take him to hospital?

My neighbours have just knocked and told us that our 14yo son was unconscious on the ground outside our house - we rushed out and he's clearly been drinking HUGE amounts of alcohol Sad he's wet himself, he's now regained consciousness and vomited copiously, he can't stand unaided and he's barely able to talk. Is also being quite aggressive and wont let his dad bring him into the house. Not able to tell us how much he's had or what it was.

Obviously he's in shit so deep he'll probably never get out Angry but should we take him to hospital? DH wants to put him to bed (not sure how!) but I'm worried about choking on vomit and/or alcohol poisoning.

Did you hoover around him this morning at 6 am and make as much noise as possible? You’ll probably all look back at this one day and laugh, although sounds scary at the time.

ohnopleasenotthis · 12/08/2019 12:23

He's OK, very hung over and very sheepish but OK. Am furious with him and his so-called friends) but incredibly relieved he's all right.

Was it “just” alcohol? Why did his friends leave him?

ohnopleasenotthis · 12/08/2019 12:26

It was just alcohol, just a lot of it and drunk too quickly. He doesn't know why they dumped him like that, he's really upset with them.

Oh dear. Poor ds. It might be a pivotal moment as others had in similar situations.

onalongsabbatical · 12/08/2019 12:31

Glad he's ok OP. I'm guessing they dumped him because they were worried about him but too cowardly to do anything else. They are as much immature kids as he is.
When I think back to being 14 I seriously regret a lot of things...

AsTheWorldTurns · 12/08/2019 12:38

Poor you, OP. I haven't had this to deal with yet but the chickens haven't hatched and all that.....

AsTheWorldTurns · 12/08/2019 12:39

I would certainly bollock his friends at the next opportunity, that was an incredibly reckless manoeuvre. Hope their parents are suitably mortified?

AsTheWorldTurns · 12/08/2019 12:40

I've thrown up in my sleep more times than I care to think about. Absolutely mortified in hindsight, I would really kill my children if they were as stupid as I was.

youarenotkiddingme · 12/08/2019 12:44

Glad he's ok.

I think it's also a good lesson in friendship at this age. What friends dump you when you are in such a state? If they chose to drink with you they clearly acted to save their own skins. Not in his best interests.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 12/08/2019 12:45

I'm glad he's OK OP. Look how many of us have had similar with our teens, or done it ourselves (including me!) Agree his friendships may need re-assessing but it would be good if he came to this conclusion himself.

Slight derail (but related to thanking ambulance staff) could I ask the paramedics etc here how it is best to thank them? I've had a few ambulance visits in the last year, and paramedics have always been absolutely lovely and very very kind. I'm not usually with it enough to thank them properly at the time, but really would like to do so. Is there a way to give biscuits etc (or anything else!) and if so where we do it?

It's not that much of a derail as it might be useful for your DS ohno Smile

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 12/08/2019 12:48

Actually thinking about it, I think I would be as furious and disappointed with my DC if they were the ones abandoning one of their mates in this situation, as if they were the drunk one themselves.

For something like this I would be contacting their parents I think, and I normally wouldn't dream of involving other friends' parents at this age.

diddl · 12/08/2019 12:53

I wouldn't be too angry with the friends tbh.

They didn't drink themselves into oblivion & they got him home.

Perhaps they saw/heard the neighbour or were afraid of repercussions if they knocked?

Also as a pp says, they're just kids.

6demandingchildren · 12/08/2019 13:00

I got a call once when my now 25 year old was 15 saying he was in hospital, I made him apologise to all the staff before leaving the hospital, he now works in the same a&e department with some of the staff that were there that night, luckily they don't remember him, he rarely drinks now and if he does it's never more than 2 units.

HazelBite · 12/08/2019 13:05

OP, hopefully he feels so ghastly that he won't do it again.

I have 4 sons and they have all done this in their mid teens, it was a lesson well learnt as they felt so dreadful, and also embarrassed at the photos of them with their heads in buckets!

Apolloanddaphne · 12/08/2019 13:06

I am glad he is okay.

I can say that as a social worker have never had a referral regarding a one off, drunk teenager. SS are far too stretched to worry about this type of thing. You acted responsibly bu getting him seen to and checking him. Please don't worry.

flappi · 12/08/2019 13:16

A and E.

HeadintheiClouds · 12/08/2019 13:18

photos of them with their heads in buckets!. 😳

newtb · 12/08/2019 13:33

OK, not in UK, but in France A&E are very grateful for food of any description. About 2am, there's nothing left.

I was recentlt let down by some dinner guests and the local a&e got a load of curry and tandoori and cake for which they couldn't have been more grateful.

HeadintheiClouds · 12/08/2019 13:35

Oh, that was lovely of you, newt. I’ll bet they were!

Joll72 · 12/08/2019 20:42

In addition to whatever gift you send find out who the CEO of the ambulance Trust is and send them an email thanking the crew for the fast response

HeyMonkey · 12/08/2019 20:51

I did this age 15. Vomited all over myself and passed out in a car park. The police took me home after they found a friend trying to drag me.

I got no sympathy, quite rightly, and my parents made me to go ikea and the garden centre with them the next day as punishment.

Sunflowers11 · 13/08/2019 00:38

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles we rarely get a thank you but cakes and biscuits always go down well!

Sunflowers11 · 13/08/2019 00:39

Sorry forgot to add you could pop down to your local Ambulance Station, or A&E if any crews are outside!

Speakercube · 13/08/2019 00:49

Glad he's OK. At least he was with you and not out alone at a club drinking. Hopefully he's learnt a lesson and will put him off doing the same again. You did right calling the paramedics.
