Bedridden third trimester.

hereforasillygoosetime · 09/08/2019 16:39

Did anyone else experience this when in 3rd trimester? I have to lie down for 90% of the day because I am so short of breath standing up/sitting/walking/moving in general.
I am on blood thinners already due to a blood clot in my first pregnancy 11 years ago, so it can't be an embolism. I am currently refusing to attend consultant appointments because the hospital is an hour away plus up to 3 hr waiting times on uncomfortable chairs when you get there (not an option when ya can barely breathe!) ... they keep sending me new appointment letters even though I've explained the problem.

Is it normal to be pretty much bedridden because the baby hasn't 'dropped'? I didn't get this with previous pregnancies. TIA

@SunnyNights you are lucky because every time I've been the minimum wait has been 1.5hrs x

I'm a bit annoyed that I wasn't told about the low iron levels 8 weeks ago, and the info should have at least been passed on to the consultant surely?
Maybe it's really not a big deal because no one seems very concerned confused

Well had you had an appointment with anyone? Clearly not your consultant as you don't seem to think it's important enough. But your midwife? They don't routinely check results without you going to see them and you've missed several consultant appointments so not sure how you're blaming them.

Glad you're now getting it sorted.

In future turn up to your consultant appointments. If you're breathless once they're and they can see you're struggling I'm sure they'd find you somewhere to lay down

hereforasillygoosetime · 12/08/2019 11:16

I had a consultant appointment 2 weeks ago. She had no knowledge of my low iron levels.

I've cancelled the one I'm supposed to be having this week with consultant they also want me in for anaesthetist which I also cancelled explaining the reasons and asking for midwife to call me to discuss but then just get sent another appointment date.

Haven't seen midwives since the blood test because I am under consultant care and they said there's no point...they did make
Me a local midwife appt for next week though.

They have always said "if your blood results are fine you won't hear from us" ......

I thought they were supposed to contact the patient of blood test results are not fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

So you have just cancelled two more appointments one with consultant one with anaesthetist. I give up. People with cancer crawl in for appointments, but you are too unwell to go. I give up!!

Horehound · 12/08/2019 15:12

Why are you cancelling the appointments?

hereforasillygoosetime · 12/08/2019 15:55

I haven't 'just' cancelled the appointments I cancelled them a week ago because I couldn't manage with my breathing problems.

This is like a vicious circle. We can't help you, you don't want helped.

pinkstar01 · 12/08/2019 16:37

I don't know why everyone's being nasty OP...I know how draining pregnancy can be and if you're anemic it must be even worse. I also have been operating under the impression that if someone was wrong with my blood/urine tests that the antenatal department would have informed me, I wouldn't have thought to double check especially since the phone lines are always busy.

Please start taking iron ASAP and hopefully you'll start to get more energy soon.

hereforasillygoosetime · 12/08/2019 16:53

@pinkstar01 thank you, I don't think people are actually reading the thread properly or registering what the consultant appointments were actually for.
I WILL be going to the appointments due this week now because I am worried about this possible anaemia now so will be badgering them about it. I'll take a pillow and lie down on the fucking floor in the waiting room Grin and find someone to drive me in.

Today's been the worst so far, starting to feel like I may pass out quite frequently. Cannot leave bed, my DCs dad has just collected them and keeping them overnight for me.

Is it not maybe time to phone 111 and see if it would be appropriate for an ambulance to be sent out?

IVEgottheDECAF · 12/08/2019 17:32

If i felt like you say you do op i would want to be in the hospital. Even if your in the waiting room if you are that unwell they will admit/treat you! I would also be incredibly worried about the effects on my baby!

justasking111 · 12/08/2019 18:24

I think you need to be admitted to the hospital so would phone 111. Your partner needs to start making waves for you.

Bellasblankexpression · 12/08/2019 20:10

If you feel like you’re going to pass out I think you need to go to hospital too OP. Especially if the midwives aren’t treating it with any urgency - this isnt normal.

Newmumma83 · 12/08/2019 20:17

@hereforasillygoosetime wow your health care is just awful where you are! I do hope your ok?

I would call your doctor for an Emergancy appointment / or call 111 to tonight to see if they can arrange a home visit out of hours if deemed an Emergancy

Thinking of you

kaytee87 · 12/08/2019 20:22

If you're lying down / in bed for 21/22 hours a day then that is really not normal no.
I actually felt better in my 3rd trimester when I was walking about and being gently active as gravity helps the baby drop lower and gives your ribs more space.
Are you exaggerating about the 90%? Because I'm really shocked that if you can really only get out of bed 2 or 3 hours a day you haven't sought medical help.

kaytee87 · 12/08/2019 20:28

I mean, you must be exaggerating? You have other kids so who is looking after them while you're lying down most of the day.

Footle · 13/08/2019 06:39

OP, you seem to be sleepwalking on to a cliff edge. You are unaware of the danger you are in.

hereforasillygoosetime · 13/08/2019 09:45

I just phoned for my blood results, the midwife on Sunday did not take blood for ferritin levels even though I specifically asked her if she was and she said yes.

My iron level is ok at 103.

Swindon antenatal would like me to come in to be assessed going in later today.

Thanks for all your help.

hereforasillygoosetime · 13/08/2019 09:45

@kaytee87 my dc are 11 and 7 so have been able to fend for themselves most of the daytime

OP posts:
IVEgottheDECAF · 13/08/2019 09:46

Glad your getting seen op

Footle · 13/08/2019 09:56

Good to know you're getting a check up. Not good that the midwife didn't do what she said she was doing. I hope you'll be listened to today.

hereforasillygoosetime · 13/08/2019 22:15

Well my ferritin level is 8, my hb is now 9.5.

They are keeping me overnight for chest x ray and possibly ct scan to make sure I'm not having an embolism.

They say the ferritin is really very low but because my hb is not lower than 8 they are going to start me on ferrous sulphate tablets and not bother with an iron transfusion.

Does anyone know if it's normal to be just put onto tablets with only 3 weeks to go til being induced when your ferritin is that low?

justasking111 · 13/08/2019 22:19

So pleased you are being seen now and taken seriously.

Zoowolla · 13/08/2019 22:27

Thank goodness - you are in the best place now.
