Prams as a status symbol/pram snobbery

So today I was looking at prams and overheard a woman telling who I assume was her mother 'we're only looking at the icandys and bugaboos, I wouldn't be caught dead with anything else.'

Is this a common attitude? To be honest I don't really like the look of most icandys and bugaboos, I think the bucket seats look uncomfy. I don't get why anyone would rule out other brands, surely you want whats comfiest for baby and suits your lifestyle best? Not just based on brand or cost?

Do people choose prams as a status symbol? Do you judge people based on what pram they have?

Some sad people measure success in their lives by how many expensive brands they own. We have relatives like this, with their iCandy buggy and Stokkes highchair. Amusingly, they always use the brand name too, so they say 'my Mulberry' rather than 'my handbag.'

Their marriage isn't good and I think they fill up their emotional emptiness with endless things.

I inherited a 16 year old Mamas and Papas for DC1. By the time DC2 arrived it’d bitten the dust, so I bought a Yo-yo for the simple reason that I knew we were going travelling g and wanted something that could be taken as airplane carry-on. And I figured it’d have some resale value.

know a mum like this - she said at baby groups she decided who was worth talking to by checking out what brand of pram and changing bag they had. But then she also googled the addresses of all the couples at her NCT classes so she could work out their house values

^^

Shameless, utterly shameless

Baby equipment is another stick to beat (predominantly Mother's) over the head with.

You spend a lot = must be vain, in debt, stupid and/or using your child as a fashion accessory.

You don't spend a lot = don't care about your child's safety, skint, prioritising other stuff and/or a chav.

Who actually gives a crap? - buy what suits your budget and lifestyle and ignore what anyone else thinks!

I know a pfb currently in the pram her own mum was pushed around in, bought secondhand 30 years ago.

My mum did dig out the silver cross pram she used for DSis and me. It was completely impractical for modern life, sadly.

We did use the 1950s cot which my grandparents bought when having their first baby though. DD was the 7th baby to sleep in it.

@squinteastwood I don't think the issue is what people spend or what brand they have, it's when people flaunt/brag about it - like a PP mentioned about about someone she knows referring to her handbag as 'my brand name'. You see it in all areas, not just children's things 🤷
