We are going on holiday to Southwold soon with our 12 year old dd. We've been many times before so we are looking for any new ideas for places to visit with dd. We tend to visit Aldeburgh, Snape, Dunwich and Orford Ness. Can you suggest any good places to visit. She loved Bewilderwood in Norfolk, but it's a bit too far to travel. Is there anything like that in Suffolk? Thanks.

My kids loved Pleasurewood Hills theme park.

queerukuleleplayer · 06/08/2019 06:48

Pleasurewood hills definitely - for quieter days, Jimmy’s farm or Easton farm park are lovely to visit.

Hairydilemma · 06/08/2019 06:54

Have you been to Thorpeness, Framingham Castle, crabbing at Walberswick, Africa Alive?

Agree that Pleasurewood Hills is also a good idea. Not sure there’s anywhere else like Bewilderwood which is brilliant!

Minsmere nature reserve is good.

A trip to the beautiful city of Norwich. Africa Alive near Lowestoft, day trip to Yarmouth, day trip to Lowestoft beach, the market town of Beccles and the broads there. There is actually a lot to do within an hours drive. Southwold itself is very sleepy but very pretty. Have fun!

High Lodge you will love!!

ImportantWater · 06/08/2019 14:09

Sutton Hoo, in addition to everything already mentioned!

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 06/08/2019 14:17

Oh yes the maize maze. Took me ages to get our Blush. Felixstowe if u want a beach with sand and amusements. Aldebugh doesn’t have that. The beach is just stones. But go down the road a bit to thorpness and eat at the ‘the kitchen ‘ dog friendly. Lovely food and a shop at the back that comes from. house clearances. Snape is good. If u like a walk I can go for a walk around there as well. If u want to add on about 20 mins and go to Sutton hoo. Which is national trust and see all the Viking boats etc.
My husband has just piped up with the Adnams brewery tour HmmGrin

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 06/08/2019 14:18

You can go to framlingham and see the ‘castle on the hill’ from Ed Sheerans song.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 06/08/2019 14:19

Ohhhh the fish and chips at aldebugh are the best ever. Make sure u try them.

bilbodog · 06/08/2019 14:27

Framlingham castle is good - english heritage. If shes not too old for farm animals easton farm park about 15 mins drive from framlingham and easton has a long crinckle cranckle listed wall, if youve nevercseen one - long too!

mumwon · 06/08/2019 14:32

Oulton Broads small 6 person hire boats - you turn up (early!) & hire them hourly rate & tour on the broads! they do large organised boat trips. If you go as far as Horsey (the beach/gap near the Mill - which is also interesting & you can go on small wild life boat trips on the broad there too) the seals are on the beach. Lowestoft =the pier has a roller skating (inside behind penny arcade) Lowestoft has a mini golf & a jungle theme mini golf as well as great beach - Kirkley has amateur rep theatre (Seagull) & Lowestoft has the Marina Theatre. Lowestoft is underrated!

I second Jimmy's farm and Africa Alive.

BlueChampagne · 06/08/2019 15:25

You can canoe or kayak on the Alde with Iken canoes near Snape and see the seals on the mud flats.
Orford Castle.
Crabbing at Orford/Walberswick (teens from our party still enjoy it).
The Long Shop at Leiston.
Picnic at Leiston Abbey.

tutorwho · 06/08/2019 16:15

Shingle Street is worth a visit too. It is a lovely place to walk round.
