If you used Ecover Zero but can't deal with their new ingredients, what product have you changed to?

Sorry about all my washing threads recently.

Ecover recently changed the recipe of the Ecover Zero laundry liquid and there are numerous people who can no longer use it.

I appreciate there are people who've been using other stuff for years, who keep recommending things I've already tried. So I'm specifically looking to hear from people who were actually using Ecover Zero until recently, to see if anything else comes up, if you've successfully found a scent-free product that works for you.

I have tried the following products, all of which make me itch: Surcare, Bio D washing powder, soap nuts (awful smell), bicarbonate of soda.

I've been using DP Liquid Soap as a temporary measure, but it isn't great and I hope to find something else.

Thank you to everyone who's given helpful advice on my other thread. I'm taking this advice up in the meantime, but I'd like to try and get back to normal and do my washing like a normal person.

I’ve changed to Astonish, I get it from the Range and it’s under £2 a bottle

Hope that helps

tectonicplates · 04/08/2019 20:40

Thanks. Unfortunately it doesn't look like Astonish make a scent-free version.

Are they still making their powder because I can't find the Zero version anywhere so had to get the liquid. No issues with it so far but prefer the powder.

What problems have you had with it Tet?

tectonicplates · 05/08/2019 21:00

It smells horrible, they've added synthetic stuff and it makes me itch.

Mine doesn't smell at all (my sense of smell is ridiculously strong) so I guess I have a bottle of the old formula. So I'll be joining you to find something else.

I'll buy the powder if I ever find it again. Hate it when companies do this.

Sadik · 05/08/2019 21:15

You have my sympathy, I hate it when companies change the formula & stuff that was OK no longer works. Can't help as I've not got on with ecover for years, but do you have a list of ingredients on an old - OK - pack? You might be able to compare with other options available? (I use Faith in Nature, but it does have rosemary oil & limonene in it)

ineedaknittedhat · 05/08/2019 21:15

Boots do a sensitive skin washing powder which is designed to be scent free and suitable for those with fragrance sensitivities as well as eczema.

ineedaknittedhat · 05/08/2019 21:17

It comes in liquid form as well.

sackrifice · 05/08/2019 21:20

I can't go near Ecover any more, its surcare for me now. Next step i may have to just go back to grating soap and mixing it with borax and baking powder. I still have a stash of borax from about a decade ago when i bought a job lot.

tectonicplates · 05/08/2019 21:22

@ineedaknittedhat Did you use Ecover before?

@sackrifice Has borax become illegal or something? I can't quite work out the situation.

MyReadingChallenge · 05/08/2019 21:24

Yes Ecover is crap since they were bought by Johnsons. I haven’t seen your other threads but since the change I’ve been using the Waitrose own brand sensitive and it’s one of the only things that doesn’t set off my sons Eczema.

tectonicplates · 05/08/2019 21:28

@MyReadingChallenge Thank you. Someone else recommended the Waitrose stuff the other day so I'm considering it.

Astonish don't make a scent-free version? That's ASTONISHing!!

tectonicplates · 05/08/2019 21:30

Not that I can see, although I might have missed something.

I used ecover years ago for ds1's washing because he had infant eczema. It's all changed now though.

Lidle do a sensitive/ fragrance free liquid. Gets the clothes clean and no itching. I only changed from Ecover in the last few months as it was difficult to source locally. The Ecover did not cause me irritation.

I used to use Ecover and now use this Ecoleaf washing powder. It has a scent whilst in the bag, but I can't smell it at all after the clothes have been washed and dried and I have a v sensitive sense of smell. I buy it in bulk but they sell it in smaller sizes too.

tectonicplates · 05/08/2019 22:41

@Plar It's so frustrating, isn't it.
