If you used Ecover Zero but can't deal with their new ingredients, what product have you changed to?

Sorry about all my washing threads recently.

Ecover recently changed the recipe of the Ecover Zero laundry liquid and there are numerous people who can no longer use it.

I appreciate there are people who've been using other stuff for years, who keep recommending things I've already tried. So I'm specifically looking to hear from people who were actually using Ecover Zero until recently, to see if anything else comes up, if you've successfully found a scent-free product that works for you.

I have tried the following products, all of which make me itch: Surcare, Bio D washing powder, soap nuts (awful smell), bicarbonate of soda.

I've been using DP Liquid Soap as a temporary measure, but it isn't great and I hope to find something else.

Thank you to everyone who's given helpful advice on my other thread. I'm taking this advice up in the meantime, but I'd like to try and get back to normal and do my washing like a normal person.

I've had the same problem with Ebay clothes. I don't bother any more. I still sell stuff though.

I haven't read your other thread, sorry, so not sure if this has been suggested, but I use bog-standard washing soda crystals and an unscented Eco Egg. I admit, it's not great for keeping whites bright, but I've not noticed a scent on anything. I also use white vinegar in the fabric conditioner drawer, which freshens and removes odours. It doesn't smell of vinegar! Grin

Unfortunately I did a vinegar wash the other day and all my clothes ended up stinking of vinegar. Even with an extra plain wash the smell still wouldn't come out, so I had to do a wash with bicarbonate of soda which got the smell out but then made me itch everywhere. I've got myself into a vicious cycle and I actually think I'm going to have to throw some of my clothes away. What a mess.

Have you consistently been using one washing machine throughout this ? What type of wash are you doing and do you live in a hard or soft water area?

tectonicplates · 06/08/2019 08:46

Yes one washing machine, in a hard water area.

Unfortunately I found Surcare awful and it had a sickly-sweet smell that I couldn't stand.

Yesterday I stupidly wore a dress I shouldn't have worn and now I'm burning/stinging all over. I feel like I've got sunburn, but when I look in the mirror there's nothing.

I can't work out how your clothes are still smelling of vinegar. How much are you using?

OliviaBenson · 06/08/2019 10:01

What type of vinegar did you use? I use it all the time and there's no smell at all.

I used standard white vinegar. Definitely not basalmic or anything. Anyway they don't smell any more as I used bicarb to get it out.

Weird all those saying Surcare smells - it certainly claims no fragrance and I can't smell it, but then I'm not gifted in the nose department.

tectonicplates · 08/08/2019 11:51

I'm just coming back with an update. I've done a couple of washes with the Waitrose stuff and I thought it was okay at first, but actually my clothes are still making me itch. Also it still has a sight smell which I don't like. But I'm going to have to use it for the time being as I really feel I've run pour of options. I really can't take any more of this.

I still feel like it's stopping me from breathing properly. It's so unpleasant.

Oh FGS, I can already feel my ears and throat closing up.

I think I posted on your previous thread, I had to change the way I did the washing because a lot of the problem is product retained in the fabric. I use the extra rinse setting, then give several extra rinses in warm water and use a spin dryer.

tectonicplates · 08/08/2019 12:55

I've already tried doing extra rinses but unfortunately it didn't make any difference.

OP posts:
TheInebriati · 08/08/2019 13:47

Have you used hot water and a spin dryer? Because it sounds like your machine doesn't rinse and spin properly.

tectonicplates · 08/08/2019 14:05

Yes I washed at 40 degrees.

tectonicplates · 08/08/2019 14:06

And then did an extra rinse cycle afterwards.
