15 minutes to grab essentials - what would you take?

I hope this isn’t insensitive in light of Whaley Bridge, but it got me thinking, if I was in a similar situation, what would I grab in 15 minutes?
I wouldn’t have left without dcat. Otherwise precious photos, (adopted) dds’ memory books, camera and iPad as there are further photos on those, a few clothes. I’m not very materialistic so don’t have much jewellery or stuff like that. Passports, birth certificates, school exam certificates etc if I had time.
What would you grab?

Husband, pets, current handbag with purse, favourite jewellery that isn’t in the safe, as much make up (I collect lipsticks) as I could carry, some fragrances, iPads, laptops and my Trumpy Bear!

My husband would grab important paperwork and his watches and photographs.

PatchworkElmer · 03/08/2019 18:30

Passports, birth certificates, marriage certificate.

All 16 versions of DS’s comfort toy, as he won’t sleep without it.

USB with photos of DS.

PatchworkElmer · 03/08/2019 18:30

Oh and essential medicines

Satsuma1234 · 03/08/2019 18:31

Husband
Child
Phones and chargers
Passports - easily available
A quick couple of changes of clothes
Jewellery but not much as I usually have the expensive bits on.

We live in a wee house so it’s a bit easier and all on one level.

SlowAndWild · 03/08/2019 18:32

Hard drive with photos on. My nature journals.

thekaratekid · 03/08/2019 18:32

Me and dp were discussing this earlier. 15 minutes is such a short a time! I hope they gave the residents a bit of warning about returning to their homes so they could plan and get hold of some bags/bin bags ready to just scoop everything into.

I would aim for similar stuff to you OP. Important documents, photos/sentimental items, jewellery box, tablet/phones, handbag and essential clothes. Basically anything irreplaceable or essential. Then if any free time left (highly unlikely) quickly try and move any larger expensive items upstairs or off the floor.

What a horrible nightmare for everyone involved. Sad

bluebellation · 03/08/2019 18:33

'Important Paperwork' box, passports, good jewellery, photos.. Nothing else really, it would all be replaceable.

midsomermurderess · 03/08/2019 18:34

My bank cards, phone and Ipad and chargers and my cat.

Teachermaths · 03/08/2019 18:34

Important docs, passport etc
Laptop (pics of kids)
Spare clothes/shoes
Move stuff upstairs

Everything else is replaceable.

Tingface · 03/08/2019 18:38

Just the kids and pets I think. And my purse and phone.

If I had time to run upstairs I’d probably grab Kindles and phones/chargers anticipating lots of hours sitting in a Travelodge ahead!!

Tingface · 03/08/2019 18:39

We’ve got six hens though. I’ve no idea what I’d do with them...

Pipandmum · 03/08/2019 18:39

Wouldn’t bother with birth certificates etc as can easily be replaced. Passports more of a faff so would grab those. Wedding album as my husband has died; memory stick of old photos (need to find that...); dogs; kids; change of clothes; medicine (I have type 1 diabetes); wallet and phone. Rabbits will just have to fend for themselves...

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/08/2019 18:39

We have a 'go bag' which has clothes, first aid, food, emergency goods like glow sticks, warm blankets, maps, water pouches, photocopies of documents, chargers and paracord. We also have prepper style supplies for longer in another part of the house.

First grab the kid, then DH, then the dog, then the bag. Phone if there was time.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/08/2019 18:40

I dread this sort of thing because our cats are wanderers and there would be at least one, probably more, that would have disappeared and would have to be left behind, and I'd spend all the time we were away fretting about them and when we went back they'd come back with that 'where the fuck have you been, I've had to go out and get my own dinner' look on them.

But we'd grab as many cats as we could, spare pants, kindles, phones, bank cards and that's it I think.

insancerre · 03/08/2019 18:41

Medication
Passport
Birth certificate
Chargers
Photo album
Dh would probably just get his guitars

PotteringAlong · 03/08/2019 18:42

Kids, DH, imp documents. External hard drive. That’s all we’d need. .

Judeslife · 03/08/2019 18:42

Phone, ID, Wallet, Keys.i would miss my mums jewellery but that's it

CarolDanvers · 03/08/2019 18:43

Children, dog, glasses and contact lenses and case, bag with phone, iPad, kindle, passports, purse - bankcards etc. Child's favourite stuffed toy that she is never without.

Alpacathebag · 03/08/2019 18:43

The boxes with important documents, medications, the cat and her food box, iPads and phones and chargers, the one set of photos I have of deceased grandparents and uncle and my childhood bear. All very easily accessible in emergencies.

Atlasta · 03/08/2019 18:45

OH
DC
Ddog
Medication
Phone and charger
Make up

Baguetteaboutit · 03/08/2019 18:45

Family, money, phone and meds.

Walkmehome · 03/08/2019 18:46

I was just thinking the same after I watched the news. I would grab dc’s medication as they couldn’t survive a night without it. Then my bag and the pets. If I had time then photos, important documents and basic clothes.

I do live very near water so flooding always crosses my mind during extreme weather.

Walkmehome · 03/08/2019 18:48

Serious preppers keep a bag packed by the door don’t they?

Disfordarkchocolate · 03/08/2019 18:51

I doubt I'd be calm but I would focus on family. I should take a file that has birth certificates and passports, handbag, phone, clothes, toiletries and meds That's it's, nothing else is with any risk. I have precious photos and jewellery etc but getting to them would take time.

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 03/08/2019 18:56

Purse, passport, phone and charger, change of clothes, sanitary pads extra knickers, photos if I could. Take cat, though often people are told to leave pets Sad ... I'd leave as much cat and whatever food open on high up surfaces that they could reach (in the case of cat that would be shed and house roof). My nightmare would be being responsible for livestock, the decision whether or not to turn them loose must be awful. Sad
