Help, please can somebody recommend a vacuum cleaner? Not a Dyson.

I have three dyson cleaners, none of which work properly. I am at my wits end. I can't afford anything too fancy.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable vacuum for around £250 that isn't huge as my house is small. I can't use one of those drag across the floor ones as I have a bad back.

Miele cat and dog is the best vacuum cleaner I've owned.

Another vote for Shark Liftaway- it’s brilliant for suction power and even has little headlights! My 9 and 6 year olds Hoover their bedrooms with it!

Love the Shark liftaway too.

@StealthPolarBear I have been singing that all the time since I said it. Walking around the streets of Deauville in France. People are looking Grin

I use my shark in house of five dogs. It’s good.

We have a cordless vax that lasts 45mins on one charge. Got it from argos for £180. 45mins might not sound like a lot but once you don't have the cord to pull around and adjust when trying to vacuum it actually take less time to vacuum the whole house & vacuuming doesn't feel like a drag anymore.

It has a boost suction for carpets. We don't have any pets, so can't comment on that.

millymae · 03/08/2019 20:04

I have a Miele cylinder cleaner that came with a 10 year guarantee that will be coming to an end next month. It still cleans brilliantly although we don’t have any pets.
Apart from when we’ve been on holiday It has been used at least 3 times a week on carpets, hard floors and soft furnishings and has never gone wrong - the bags are easy to replace, seem to last quite a long time and are not over expensive to buy.
I still have the receipt from when I bought it and it cost £160.00. so on a cost per use basis it’s been very good value and worth every penny. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another although when the time comes to replace it I’ll be looking at the Shark

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 03/08/2019 20:09

got a Morphy Richards cordless for £99.00. Way better than Dyson.

M0reGinPlease · 03/08/2019 20:13

Shark lift away. You will never look back.

BellaVita · 03/08/2019 20:18

Shark Lift Away has change my life.

BelindasGleeTeam · 03/08/2019 20:20

Miele every time. Just had a shark at holiday cottage and it was cumbersome, heavy and although it was ok, it's not a patch on my Miele.

Which? tests agree.

Benjispruce · 03/08/2019 20:28

We have a Henry -can’t be beaten fir vacuuming but seriously heavy. Bought a Bush Athlwte cordless for quick daily vacuuming as have a dog etc. Waste of money. It drops what it has sucked when you switch it off and needs the brushes detangling far too often .

Benjispruce · 03/08/2019 20:28

Bosch Athlete

woodhill · 03/08/2019 20:46

I like the Bosch cordless with a switch rather than the Dyson one

MagicErmintrude · 03/08/2019 20:52

I have a Sebo and a Shark, and there's no contest between the two. The Sebo out performs the Shark in every way and doesn't need emptying every 5 minutes. Plus it's built to last forever.

goldpendant · 03/08/2019 23:12

Has anyone tried the shark cordless lift away? I need to replace my dyson, definitely want cordless again, I live in a house with a LOT of stairs....

moanyhole · 03/08/2019 23:19

I have the corded shark lift away. It is absolutely hands down the best vacuum ive ever had. Beats miele, dyson and nilfisk hands down. I only have it a few weeks and everytime I go over my rigs the whole cylinder, which is big enough, is filled. Its leterally removing a few years of dirt my ither vacuums left behind each time I use it. Its almost fascinating and horrifying the amount of dirt its removing. I dont have the pet version but it removes my dogs hairs instantly anyway. Only downside it that its a bit heavy but I can live with that

NiLunNiLautre · 03/08/2019 23:28

Ah, had never heard of Sebo before... I’ll be checking them out.

TowerRingInferno · 03/08/2019 23:56

Miele cat and dog (even if you have neither).

I use a shark in a volunteering role I have and it’s better than a Dyson but not as good as a Miele.

BetweenTheMoon · 04/08/2019 00:27

Another one for Miele! I have had a LOT of vacuums and it's the best by far. Hated my Dysons and Henry (haven't tried a shark).

ineedaholidaynow · 04/08/2019 00:42

MrsCasares what is the difference between your 2 Sharks?

jlgsy94 · 04/08/2019 00:56

We made the mistake of buying a Dyson DC39 Animal hoover some years back - the flaming thing could never suck a singular thing up without blocking its pipes.. We reverted to a simple but trustworthy Henry Hoover. At least he works and more importantly sucks ... Grin
