...and so every day during August I will be bringing you some photos of what the Playmolanders are getting up to this summer.

Holidaymakers are on the ferry to the Isle of Browne

Tomorrow it is our local seaside town carnival. I wonder if Lowbeach on Sea has a similar event?

SoMuchToBits · 16/08/2019 20:51

Well, Fuzzy, there's nothing organised for this year, but maybe next?

On reflection, a Playmo carnival might be quite good! We have a flatbed truck which would make a most excellent base for a carnival float...

Also, we're halfway through the month! Do we have enough Playmobil ideas for the second half?

I was hoping for a Glastonbury style music festival in Playmoland!

RustyBear · 17/08/2019 07:30

Do you have the castle? How about a medieval tournament event?
Village fête?
Cycle race?

FuzzyPuffling · 17/08/2019 09:08

Round here we have a thing called Revel, linked with harvest. Each village does its own, and it usually involves crowning a Harvest Queen (local tenneager) a silver band, various stalls and games (bric a brac, guess the weight of the sheep, WI jam and cakes etc) and a blinking good tea!

The one in this village is mid Sept.. Plenty of time for playmo land to stage their own. It's cultural, innit!

FuzzyPuffling · 17/08/2019 09:08

*teenager. What is that gobbledegook I have written?

SoMuchToBits · 17/08/2019 09:38

Some interesting ideas there! We don't have a castle though, although we do have quite a few knights.

Today Jeff and Jackie and their children are holidaying on their boat. They are sitting down at the table for lunch.

Jeff steers the boat, while Jackie listens to the radio and regards the pineapple.

Jessica and Jordan play in the water off the back of the boat.

Well done @petalpower for predicting a lilo incident. Brett and Brad are out in the lifeguard patrol boat, when Brad spots Simone in difficulties after her lilo has drifted out to sea.

Love Jackie regarding the pineapple! Is it a stunt pineapple!?

ItsABubbleParty · 17/08/2019 15:26

Are Jeff and Jackie going to charge the lifeboat for loss of the lilo?

SoMuchToBits · 17/08/2019 17:37

What's a stunt pineapple? Confused

It was Simone's lilo, but if you look at the last photo carefully, you'll see that the lifeguards have rescued it too, and it's now on the boat!

A stunt pineapple Somuch refers to a thread a few years ago when someone admitted to buying a pineapple at Christmas just to look good and not eat it. In Victorian times they used to do similar. A pineapple was a status symbol as it meant you could afford skilled gardeners. So pineapples were hired for dinner parties but never eaten, returned to the hirer for the next dinner party. I love how your playmobil story is progressing.

SoMuchToBits · 17/08/2019 19:01

Thanks, elephant! Those pineapples must have been a bit grim by the time they reached the 3rd or 4th hirer! Grin

I love the idea of a Playmo Fresher's Week - it would be a good distraction from the empty nest syndrome? :) Well done to DS.

SoMuchToBits · 17/08/2019 20:31

What sort of things happen at Freshers' week these days? I went to uni39 years ago

OP posts:
Horsemad · 17/08/2019 20:34

Freshers: a LOT of drinking (probably followed by copious vomiting and then hangover cures!). 😄

BertieBotts · 17/08/2019 20:48

I did one about 10 years ago. I remember there being a big hall with all of the societies you could sign up to. I did not partake in any drinking sadly because I was too old and boring.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 17/08/2019 20:56

That's beyond a stunt pineapple now, Jackie has skillfully peeled and sliced that one Grin

@SoMuchToBits my brother did aeronautics engineering about 10 years ago and is now doing very well for himself, earns more than I do and I'm a LOT older than him! He's worked in many countries too, a great way to see the world. Wishing your DS well in his studies and future career 👍🏻
