They look like trainers to me. We'd get away with them for primary but not for secondary.

Teachermaths · 30/07/2019 08:24

Both would count as trainers in our school.

I don't understand why people find it so hard to buy school shoes. If you have to ask, they are trainers!

Foslady · 30/07/2019 08:27

At that price for the DM’s why not the DM shoes? They are the shoe of choice for both male and female at dd’s school!

ElizaPancakes · 30/07/2019 10:25

They both look like trainers to me which I suspect will make them non-compliant.

CarlaJones · 30/07/2019 11:41

They'd be considered trainers at the dcs' secondary

Nesssie · 30/07/2019 11:45

£99 for school shoes Shock

Sagradafamiliar · 30/07/2019 11:53

Both are a trainer style. It depends how strict the school is, DS would (and has) receive(d) a detention for those but others might turn a blind eye.

GymKitJen · 30/07/2019 12:22

It's not me that doesn't understand what a pair of school shoes looks like, it's my 13yo teachermaths - I just wanted to feel vindicated 😆

My dd3 had the DMs (lasted all the way through years 9, 10 and 11), and they look nothing like trainers in real life. Her school are quite strict in uniform and she obviously didn't have any problem.

But I have read a thread on here about someone's dc not being allowed to wear them to school. So, who knows. Down to individual teachers I think.

Foslady · 30/07/2019 12:52

@Nesssie the Doc Martin shoes that look similar but with a defined heel cost that. Dd has used them for 2 years and they still look great and is planning to use them for 6th form (and during the day she used to have to walk miles - the majority of the school campus was spread out over single storey)

BikeRunSki · 30/07/2019 13:09

Clark’s have got a pair with similar sole shape, but narrower lacing. These feel a but schoolier. these

polkadotpixie

I thought your comment was very helpful, thank you.

Teachermaths · 30/07/2019 14:09

Ahh OP fair enough, you definitely are vindicated!!

Our school sends a photo guide. Usually rubber trainer like soles are the thing that makes school say no.

Trainer designers have got more savvy over the years but they are still trainers.

jackstini · 30/07/2019 14:20

Ours have to have 'polishable leather' so patent is a no, but almost every child wears black leather Vans, Converse or Adidas...

TreacherousPissFlap · 30/07/2019 16:33

DS is adamant that he can use a sharpie to colour in the yellow stitching on DM's. Any suggestion that we buy DM's without the yellow stitching is met with abject horror and scorn.

I will purchase them on the understanding that he will need to buy suitable replacements when if they are deemed unsuitable.

GymKitJen · 30/07/2019 20:56

Teenage logic defies belief treacherous!
