Tell me it's not a disaster! (haircut related)

Had my haircut today, not a massive change in length, just an inch or two, but the hairdresser took it upon himself to put in loads of random short layers and graduate it way more than I've ever had before! It feels like I have very little hair let due to all the short layers and "thinning" and "softening" that he did. I would really appreciate some honest opinions. I washed I got home to see if that would be any better, and I think it is marginally so I'm attaching the photos I took then!

P.s. I'm only 26 so partly I think it's the "grown up"-ness of the cut that's upsetting me.

Percy & Reed volume hair mousse is what you need.

Bookworm4 · 24/07/2019 18:10

Hmm it’s very messy and uneven, I’d not be happy he cut layers without your ok.

It looks like it could be like Phoebe Waller-Bridge's hair, just needs some oomph?

MrsGrindah · 24/07/2019 18:11

It’s not a disaster but if you don’t like it I think it will be quite difficult to style differently as it’s so short. A case of grin and bear it and grow it out!

Bezalelle · 24/07/2019 18:11

Oh I love it. Very Fleabag!

Mishappening · 24/07/2019 18:13

Isn't it annoying when hairdressers take it upon themselves to do what they want rather than what you want. This is why I have long hair!

But, really, I do not think this is a bad as you feel it is - it just feels different for you. I agree that softening and thinning are not really the best thing to do for fine hair - I know it is all the rage, but he needs to be choosing his cut based on the type of hair and above all else - what the client wants! Don't go to him again - not because the cut is half as bad as you think, but because he does not listen!!

BobTheFishermansWife · 24/07/2019 18:15

I really like the cut. Are you naturally curly or were they added?
I'd suggest as per previous posters, needs a bit more volume, make use of the shorter layers to add more body.

bluebury · 24/07/2019 18:16

I really like the layering and shaping around the front, it frames your face well.

Not so sure about the less feathered layers at the back though.

If it helps, I had a similar incident with a hairdresser getting a little 'layer happy' when I was about your age. It felt like the end of the world for 2-3days then I got used to it and before I new it the layers had grown out.

HaircutHmmmmm · 24/07/2019 18:18

In those pictures it is just air dried so that is m natural texture (and explains why it is a bit messy). I washed it again when I got home to see if it would be better than how he styled it and it is!

Yeah he really didn't listen at all, I almost left before he started and by the end I wished I had!!

Loving the fleabag comments Grin that's making me feel much better. I agree some mousse for a bit of oompf is a good idea. I do actually have quite thick hair (or at least a lot of hair, each on is relatively fine) which I why I think he was thinning, but he went a bit overboard!!

I really like it! Very natural looking and pretty. And yes, Fleabag.

Londonbum · 24/07/2019 18:21

Just here to also observe the Fleabag-ness! I think it looks good and makes me wonder why I’m not getting my hair cut!

Echobelly · 24/07/2019 18:23

Looks nice to me, I've had lots of different cuts, including very short and some have been a bit 'Hmmm' at first but then I liked them after a day or two to accustom myself to it. Change is always a bit startling.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 24/07/2019 18:24

Yeah it just needs some styling, you won't be able to just 'wash and go' anymore. I would either use mousse and scrunch it up into a messy curlyish style or else use a straightener to frame your face in a choppy blunt straight layered style... But don't just leave it to dry naturally!

GrabbyGertie · 24/07/2019 18:25

I think it's really lovely but, maybe, a bit of an older cut. I can see the fleabag'ness of it. You have nice hair.
I think you just need a good play about with it and see how it sits. I'd aim
For more of a messy look than more volume but that might not be your style
Not very helpful but I would probably put a couple of colourful streaks into it to make it a bit younger looking.
I think it might grow out nicely.

It's definitely not a disaster haircut though. I genuinely like it 😊

picklemepopcorn · 24/07/2019 18:26

Maybe if you posted a before pic, we'd find it easier to understand your concern ? actually, I'm just nosy.

Shockers · 24/07/2019 18:26

I like it!

Beautiful3 · 24/07/2019 18:33

I like it.

QuilliamCakespeare · 24/07/2019 18:34

I like it too.

JustHavinABreak · 24/07/2019 18:46

I absolutely love it. Mine is about waist length when I straighten it but it's naturally quite wavy. With 3 small DCs and a business to run, I just don't have time to do anything more than a messy bun. I'd love your new look. Think you look amazing!

HaircutHmmmmm · 24/07/2019 19:00

It won't let me post any more pictures! Just felt a bit flat and limp and thin compared to what I'm used to! Glad people are generally positive though :) I think I actually don't mind it air dried....

Having had a proper look, I'm thinking that it's the section at the nape of my neck that's really upsetting me - it's like it's too long for the rest of the cut and is making it look a bit grown out/frumpy. You can see it on the profile pictures. What do you guys think?

EnidButton · 24/07/2019 22:43

Yeah he really didn't listen at all, I almost left before he started and by the end I wished I had!!

God this sounds identical to a hair disaster cut I had two tears ago. He didn't check my hair whilst dry first and warning bells went off but I stayed anyway. He was really into layers and didn't listen too. I'm honestly wondering if it's the same guy. Mine was longer than yours but the layers looked the same.

What I did was let it grow for a couple of months and then went somewhere else and had the bottom layer cut off and the other layers cut into so they blended better. I see what you mean about the bottom part but maybe live with it for a couple of weeks so you can weigh up what you want to do.

EnidButton · 24/07/2019 22:44

two tears = two years.

It was far more than just the two tears! 😭

EnidButton · 24/07/2019 22:46

It's not that bad btw. Some moose on your roots and maybe a waving tong, it'll look fab.
