Would you try to get your driving licence if you're pregnant?

Every time I took the test and failed, I would get a knot in my throat of anxiety. My husband still thinks I should try to get my licence (he tells me to just relax) but now I'm pregnant. Would you still bother or would you wait? I'm just wondering if I should take on the stress of it.

I didn’t attempt it when pregnant but two of my friends did and passed so it’s definitely possible. I would wait if you don’t feel ready to try again.

TrySinging · 23/07/2019 11:17

Of course. I passed 4th time whilst pregnant.

PurpleDaisies · 23/07/2019 11:19

The pregnancy is a red herring. The stress won’t be better or worse at another time.

Do it when you’re ready.

I did. Ended up passing my second test at 38 weeks pregnant!

AdriannaP · 23/07/2019 11:25

Definitely try now! Once the baby is here it will be much harder to find the time and you can do so much more with the baby when you can drive!
Can your husband or someone else help you and do practise drives with you?

Driving is all about practice in my experience - I say this as someone who was a very anxious driver and needed A LOT of lessons to pass. The more you drive the more confident you become! All the best.

sneakypinky · 23/07/2019 11:27

I finally passed age 34 in an automatic. Can't you try an automatic?

Xyzzzzz · 23/07/2019 11:27

My sister passed when pregnant she was 37 weeks

Saucery · 23/07/2019 11:30

I passed on my 5th go when pregnant. I cared much, much less about passing than before (hadn’t even tried for 15 years between tests) as had other things on my mind! Sailed through it.

MissingTheMissletoe · 23/07/2019 11:34

My sister passed her test at 7 months pregnant so don’t see why not

Joopy · 23/07/2019 11:34

I did, passed at 7.5 months, it made things a lot easier when I went back to work and could do nursery drop offs etc I think it was my 4th attempt. Don't worry if you fail lots of people do Flowers

Juniorwarriors · 23/07/2019 11:35

It took me 8 years of lessons, but I passed my test at 38 weeks pregnant. I think it might have helped because I felt much calmer and less nervous than I normally do. I wondered if the end of pregnancy hormones had anything to do with it.

harrypotterfan1604 · 23/07/2019 11:38

I would give it a go if I were you.
The thought of being unable to drive with a little one would be enough for me to try.
I couldn’t have coped without my car with theamount of stuff you need to take out with you

BusterGonad · 23/07/2019 11:50

I passed my test 2nd time at 20 weeks, I'm not sure how I would've done after having a baby as both money and time are tight.

hsegfiugseskufh · 23/07/2019 11:52

I passed 2 days before I gave birth!

what did you struggle with? I only ask because I just couldn't drive a manual, I passed in an auto and find it much easier.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 23/07/2019 11:54

I'd do it. My friend passed her test at 37 weeks pregnant with her 4th child. It's been so useful being able to drive the kids round places, she wishes she'd not put it off for so long!

AnneLovesGilbert · 23/07/2019 12:34

I got an automatic licence too. Struggled for years with the bloody clutch and automatic was a game changer.

I still loathe driving but we live in the sticks and it’s a necessary evil, much more so with a baby and jab appointments etc.

mindutopia · 23/07/2019 12:39

Definitely. It will be massively easier now before you have childcare to arrange and are so sleep deprived that you can’t even think. Also it means potentially being less isolated as a new mum (which is often a very isolating experience unless you can get out and about easily).

jackernanna · 23/07/2019 12:42

My DD passed first time at 37 weeks. Go for it.

MyReadingChallenge · 23/07/2019 12:45

Yes try now as you won’t have to worry about who is looking after baby or being away from baby like you will once they are here.

ParrotsForLife · 23/07/2019 12:46

I passed when I was about 5 months pregnant, go for it!

CodenameVillanelle · 23/07/2019 12:48

I passed 4th time while pregnant. I was more worried about morning sickness than failing so I passed

MindyStClaire · 23/07/2019 13:05

I would've found it much easier pregnant than after the baby was born.

I passed on my fourth attempt (pre kids). Just keep trying and practising, you'll get there.

pooopypants · 23/07/2019 13:08

I would. For no other reasons than 1. It'll be SO much more difficult to find the money / time / energy once baby is here and 2. You'll actually be able to drive - baby groups, midwife appointments, Asda, the list is endless!

Magpiefeather · 23/07/2019 13:18

I had failed my test twice at 17/18, then went back for more lessons when I was pregnant (and older and wiser!) at 29 and passed at 20 weeks. Threw money at it tbh and had as many lessons as I could (2 x 1hr per week). I cried almost every lesson . But it’s the best thing I ever did. Having a car and the freedom to go anywhere with a baby / toddler has been amazing. I would 100% recommend doing it now xxx

Magpiefeather · 23/07/2019 13:19

Oh and PS I think the examiner was nicer to me because I wasn’t visibly pregnant. Not saying more lenient or anything, but definitely friendlier than the ones I’d hd before which relaxed me a lot!
