Do you have a favourite drinking mug and why?

I have a few favourites.

I have only one, that fits in the cup holder in the car, that's my favourite one for the morning.

I have another favourite one because it was bought by my children.

And I have one more, favourite one, because it always cheers me up when I use it.

Yes, it's the biggest mug in the house and I have my tea in it. It is black with brightly coloured owls on it.

Ooh my specialist subject!

I have a white stoneware one that is wider at the base than the top. It’s so comfy to hold. That’s my morning latte mug.

I have an oversized teacup in pretty colours which is for my afternoon peppermint tea. The wide top cools it down lovely.

I have a small painted Anthropologie mug which is nice for my post-dinner cuppa. It has monkeys on, which makes me happy.

And my night-time herbal tea is usually in a large Le Creuset mug.

I’m very particular about my mugs. Nowt else - oh, I lie. Cutlery too.

I clearly have a thing about kitchenware.

Here are mine, my Cath Kidston initial mug, my retro Starbucks one (that I cannot find another one of anywhere) and a wonderful Smarties one from an Easter egg a few years ago.

I also have a collection of Cath Kidston Mini Stanley mugs. I like small cups of tea as I can only drink it red hot so never finish a larger cup.

Yes

Why?

Because the handle is big enough I can get all 4 fingers through to hold it firmly

It's solid but not too heavy

It's big enough to hold a decent "cuppa" but isn't too heavy to use when full and isn't too wide resulting in hot drinks cooling too fast.

There's definitely "the perfect design" for a mug.

I'm disabled which is why the weight and being able to grip comfortably is so important to me.

Pure luck I have mine as it was a Mother's Day gift and so just a generic "mum" mug.

iateallthecheesecake · 22/07/2019 20:24

Yes.

It came with one of my old uni houseshare houses, and was a promo mug for a paintball company. I was planning to take it with me, but one of my housemates knocked it off the side on our moving out day never forgiven her

It was so great because it was a good weight and held a reasonable amount of tea, but it was sturdy and not top heavy.

I have a serious irrational hatred dislike of top heavy mugs, especially those 40p ikea ones with the handle only thick enough for one finger. Impossible to hold. They're always at playgroups and scouts. Work of the devil.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 22/07/2019 20:29

Yep, I have one from my 1st birthday as a mum with pictures of my son on it. I use it every morning for my first cup of tea. My partner went to use it to put frozen berries in earlier and I told him off Grin it's my sacred morning mug!

I also have one with penguins on that I use when I have a cup of decaffeinated tea in the evening.

opinionminion · 22/07/2019 20:35

From my mum. Nobody else is allowed to drink from it.

I have an oversized tea cup mug for my tea. Love it so much that when it got broken I went and bought two replacements. One to use and one in case of further mishaps.

Good thing I did because they stopped making it soon after...

GirlFliesHome · 22/07/2019 20:48

I treated myself a few years ago to 4 blue le creuset Mugs.

They make me happy.

I have a Pokémon personalised mug with my name on it. I bought it during a nostalgia trip, but still use it daily. It makes me happy. Grin

Very impressed that MN added the little comma thing above the 'e' for me. Smile

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 22/07/2019 20:55

My fave mug was a present and says “I fucking love tea” on it. I use it for drinking coffee.

SkydivingKittyCat · 22/07/2019 20:55

Guinea pig for tea and Buddy Bear for coffee. Both are significantly larger than a standard mug!

My favourite mug has my name on and was given to me in 1994 by my then-best friend after she went to the Kennedy Space Center. It’s not particularly attractive but has sentimental value just because it’s survived so long. It went to university with me, including on my year abroad to France and Russia, and then to every house I’ve lived in since. I know it will break one day and I’ll genuinely be devastated.

Natsku · 22/07/2019 20:58

My favourite one, that I use for tea throughout the day and I carefully handwash at the end of each day (never the dishwasher!) is a snapfish one with pictures of my children on.

I also have 3 mugs that I use for my bedtime tea, alternating each night, that no one else is allowed to use - a London one, one that says The Boss, and then a big one that holds more tea.

Yes my beauty and the beast China mug I've had for about 20 years - it's my tea mug, I would be very upset if it got broken but it's getting so old and the design is fading! I also have a large Elsa mug for hot chocolate or cup a soup. And a large plain white coffee cup too. At work I had a personalised mug a child gave me as a gift. Funny isn't it how we get used to certain things.

Strokethefurrywall · 22/07/2019 21:08

I prefer china mugs for coffee and tea, and have a range of the Waitrose China mugs they do.

I have one at the office and about 7 million at home. My mum brings a set every time she comes out to visit me.

I don't like fat mugs. I'm a weirdo.

DearLady · 22/07/2019 21:08

I left an original Charles & Diana Wedding mug behind, when I moved in with my husband, as he wouldn’t have it in his place. No way!

Wish I’d given it to Mum, as she has Kate & Wills, Harry & Meghan at home. My aunty sent it over from London, Granny gave it to me.

Nat6999 · 22/07/2019 21:23

I have hundreds of mugs but only four that I drink out of, nobody else gets chance to use these ones because they are mine, I don't do dainty China mugs, mine have to be big, chunky pint pot mugs. I even have my own mugs at my mums that nobody else uses. You can probably guess that I'm autistic just from this.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 22/07/2019 21:28

I love my Emma Bridgewater mugs. I don’t really have a favourite, it varies from day to day, although I’m currently using my new City of York mug. Including my Christmas ones I’ve got 83 to choose from. Grin

I also have Moorland, Hogben and Brixton. I’ve even got some old Cath Kidston.

I like pottery. Grin

Bizarrely this is the second thread I’ve mentioned Emma Bridgewater on tonight and it doesn’t usually ever come up in conversation.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 22/07/2019 21:30

We have half a dozen le crueset mugs in various colours. I love them. The orange is my fave and the blue green is my back up at a push. The rest of the family has to work around me because they don’t have favoutites —weirdos—

It is compulsory that whoever makes me a cuppa hands it me and says, “Le crueset”, in a really poncy French accent.

Stampyourfeet · 22/07/2019 21:37

My favourite mug has butterflies in a repeat pattern and is just the right weight, shape and texture-I can’t stand mugs that are too thick to drink from, this one is just the perfect size too. From Tesco years ago. My husband is a fan of getting those cheap mugs with stupid personalised prints on them, he must have bought me about 5 and I hate them-he doesn’t know but I threw one away recently as I couldn’t bare to drink from it!

ChanklyBore · 22/07/2019 21:39

Of course I do.

Because I am normal, and British.

Butternutsqoosh · 22/07/2019 21:47

I love my V&A China one from waitrose, I love the curve in the top and the rim is not too thick so I like the feel of it on my mouth! DH likes it too but keeps making his coffee in it 😡 I bought him the same style but in blue but he still keeps using mine 😤
