Tenerife - is it nice, what resorts are quieter?

I’m thinking of booking a week all inclusive in Feb or March.

I’ve been to Lanzarote but not Tenerife, so would appreciate advice.

I want sunshine, peace to read a book and not anything that will have stag do type shenanigans at it.

I will have a car, so most locations are accessible, and I am flying into Tenerife South.

Thanks in advance

Los Gigantes is lovely. Great to go in the new year to celebrate the three kings

Echo005 · 17/07/2019 12:21

Please be aware that there has been a sickness bug in the los gigantes are for years.christmas 2018 we stopped in puerto de la cruz but after visiting los gigantes area by boat we decided to stop in playa la arena last christmas. Nobody knows of the sickness until they actually come down with it-and i was laid up in bed ill for a week after returning to the uk. Ppl will post on TA but the general public are unaware.the holiday companies dont inform anybody either.in fact when i complained to our company i was told by the rep 'its not as bad here as in some of my colleagues hotels'. From what i have read since it appears to be an ongoing problem with the sewerage and it doesnt affect locals. My advice is choose an area further away from there but visit los gigantes for the day.

Another vote for Costa Adeje. There's a lovely promenade walk that goes all the way from Costa Caleta through to Los Cristianos.

There's lots to do in Tenerife especially if you've got a car. Take a drive to Teide (and take the cable car to the top), go to Loro Parque and drive to the Anaga Forest in the NE and Masca to the West (some of the roads are a bit windy though to Anaga and Masca, so not for the faint hearted!)

Hotels and apartments in Adeje are newer so more modern and has some "posher" shops, etc. It's my "go to" holiday destination when I want somewhere to chill out for a week.

Alternatively, how about Gran Canaria? The Lopesan Baobab hotel in Meloneras is amazing and it's a nice upmarket new resort.

I hated Tenerife. I went to quite a few places and found it tacky and very "Brits Abroad".

I quite liked Lanzarote, but if you fancy a change, that's not much help!

Went last year and stayed at the Sandos San Blas resort, which we loved. Very quiet, near to the airport, good with small kids.

Go to lopesan in melanaries maspalomas Gran Canaria
Lovely hotel beach close by lovely restaurants on your doorstep
Do nit venture to playa de angles further down its a bit yak
Google it with jet 2 , it’s Lovely

Enjoy

We stayed half board at Gran Tacande in Adeje and loved it. Loved the promenade walk in the evenings.
However do Prefer Lanzarote I think. We usually have a self catering villa with private pool. We sstayed in puerto calero twice it was very nice. Lovely cliff walk from there to puerto del carmen

We are booked to go to Tenerife next week, all inclusive. First time in a hotel abroad as a family as we usually drive to france or get our own villa in Spain/Majorca with pool and fly with easyJet. We like doing our own thing, our own space, and we like local history and culture and proper local restaurants, not English breakfast places and happy hour type places.

To say I am apprehensive is an understanding, OP. Grin We booked as just fancied a complete change and to not to have to do any shopping and cooking for once. I’m just not convinced it’s us. We are going to Adeje. Already some people I know hve recommended that we go to this bar or that restaurant and when I google them I just think they and the surrounding areas look a bit charmless.

This is costing quite a lot more than our usual type of holiday so I hope we will enjoy it and not hate Tenerife when we get there. We booked it as you seem to get a better standard of hotel in the canaries than in mainland Spain etc.

Feel free to PM me at the beginning of August to find out how we get on!

Understatement!

Love Costa Adeje, especially Playa del Duque. Also love Meloneras in Gran Caneria. Not keen on Lanzarote myself.
