Do you live near the beach and if so, do you take your DC often?

Our nearest beach is about 2 minutes walk away - sandy but not a touristy-type beach

I take the dog pretty much every day and DD2 rides her horse on it a couple of times a week when it’s warm enough

DD1 goes down there a lot with her friends - they take a BBQ down there in the evening and stuff like that

Haven’t been for a day at the beach/picnic/sunbathing there for years though. I guess it’s just ‘there’ now so take it for granted a bit.

We live about 20 minutes from the beach. No, we might go once a year? It’s hot with no shade (and quite a walk to carry anything to create shade). We have a choice of rocky beach or sandy shale (which is very painful to walk on), and I don’t love either.

I do take my dc to a nearby river and they pay in the water and dig in mud there, which is much nicer.

We live in pembrokeshire. We pretty much go every hot day after school/weekends/holiday. But we only go to beaches with a dog ban so we never go in winter.

10 min walk from a pebble beach. Go at least twice a week from about may onwards after school or on weekends. Much prefer pebbles to sand. In the winter we still go down sometimes on weekends just to chuck stones in the water.

Every evening after work and school I take the boys and dogs to the beach which is 5 mins away from us. In summer we go less regularly as there are loads of tourists and it is just too packed unless we wait till late evening.

We lived in the Mediterranean when DCs were young, 10 mins drive to a lovely safe beach. Went 4/5 times a week after school and weekends. Meet all their mates to go body surfing etc while us mums drank frappes. Was idyllic.

Twenty minutes away. We go about once or twice a month.

Dandelionplease · 16/07/2019 10:34

Do you go in September October too? Can the weather be just as nice as summer?

@Dandelionplease where I live we do a Christmas Day swim in the sea! The cafe on the beachfront has free mulled wine and mince pies and you can buy a hot choc for the kids!! It’s fantastic!!

We're 5-10 mins drive from a few lovely beaches and go probably 2-4 times a week in summer and also go fairly often in winter if it isn't raining. DS's (1 1/2 and 2 1/2) love it and I normally take a picnic blanket and packed lunch so they play, eat, play, then we head home for naps. The fresh air is fab :-)

I used to take them but out if season. Its quite touristy so prefer to govwhen they aren’t there. Niw we go on our own, and i love nothing more than the beach on a stormy day.

We go all year round but in September to about Easter we go probably once a week/every other week as a family for a dog walk down there and try and choose one with a cafe to have a cuppa and a bacon roll afterwards! I go with just dogs 2-3 times a week.

Wrongdissection · 16/07/2019 14:23

We always do a long family walk on the beach on Christmas Eve to wear the kids (16 & 10 😳) and the dog out before the festivities the following day.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 16/07/2019 14:25

Winter beach visits are amazing too, for sandcastle building, beachcombing, dog walking. I do winter sea swimming so have a weekly quick dip whilst the rest of the family are exploring.

Thanks everyone.
